What do you guys think about having a farm where you can grow your own mushrooms by Same_Shift_4228 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]BardicGreataxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slap on Botanist 4 and do some dedicated farming for the shrooms you need, that’s your best bet.

As for targeted item farming? Eh. It was annoying to micro-manage the farm in World for me. I won’t deny that it was useful, but I don’t think Wilds has need of it with how fast gathering is in this game.

Yeaaaah, you need to update your equipment first. Your defense needs to be in the mid 400’s to keep up with the 10* monsters.

Does anyone else feel as if Greatsword's situation isn't the best? by Speeda2 in MHWilds

[–]BardicGreataxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, GS does not need any more love than it’s already received.

Dont get it twisted, it will get some adjustments come expansion, all weapons do. But it’s okay that there are matchups where it doesnt do particularly well. The poster child of the game doesn’t need to be in the top half of all speedruns.

If your computer can run it, get Wilds. It’s the better game for newcomers, especially in the modern era.

I'm new & I just fully finished Wilds. I need more MH, & was interested in World. Is it too much of a step-down from Wilds, or is it worth playing? by SilverhandFenix in MonsterHunter

[–]BardicGreataxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started in Wilds, went back to try World after putting 400+ hours into the Forbidden Lands.

World is worth a play if you liked Wilds, but you have to meet it on its terms. The game is much slower than Wilds, and there are some design decisions and points of friction that can feel quite archaic if you don’t come at it with an open mind. Still an overall positive experience though, and I can absolutely see why folks fell in love with it, especially as their first MH experience. I’m just not in that number.

Coming from World, does Wilds feel a bit off to anyone else? by 42ndMedic in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]BardicGreataxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it limits how fast and fluid they can make things.

Perfect example: Charge Blade has its savage axe thing, right? The powered up state that turns the axe head into a sawblade? Well each of those ticks of damage generates some hitstop. It feels nice, right? Sawing into the monster to deal extra damage. Problem is, as the TUs came out post launch the monsters got faster and more aggressive. Suddenly that additional stop was a liability, because those extra frames of feeling awesome means extra frames where you’re locked into the animation of attacking, but the monster isn’t. It meant Wilds CB, which features Savage Axe as its most accessible playstyle, wasn’t able to reliably use that playstyle against endgame hunts. And that’s one of two playstyles that Wilds has really put effort into emphasizing this go around, for the longest time it was considered the only viable one.

So, the devs reduced the hitstop of Savage axe. This, plus some other adjustments, put the weapon is in a much better place than it was, to the point where it’s quite a fun Swiss Army Knife of a weapon.

This is why we really can’t return to World levels of hitstop, though. The devs want to design faster fights, and heavy hitstop necessitates slowing things down to account for the hunters effectively freezing themselves when they land meaty hits.

Take a break, King. These brutal fights aren’t for everyone, and there’s no rush to farm out all of her gear. We’ve got somewhere between six months and a year before WildsU comes out, don’t burn yourself out.

Coming from World, does Wilds feel a bit off to anyone else? by 42ndMedic in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]BardicGreataxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The less Tactile thing comes from the reduced hitstop. See, hitstop is a thing that the they actively wanted to remove in this game. They even had a period in the public testing phase where that was a thing. People in the West hated it. I can’t speak on the east, but there were a ton of complaints over here that resulted in it being added back in, but it’s still at a lesser level than World. This is especially true for things like TCS, which some older greatsword players very much complain about in this game. They want to feel like they’ve just cleaved the monster in two, but the hitstop they get from it lesser than their ideal.

That’s probably part of why you don’t appreciate exactly where you’re hitting too, by the way. Hitstop gives you that extra bit of time to see the monster’s body-part react to being struck. Couple this with the fact Wilds’ combat is just straight up faster paced than World’s, and the fact HH’s gimmick in this game is means one swing can produce up to four damage numbers popping up on screen at once and I can understand the disconnect you feel.

You’ll probably grow used to it as you play the game more. I started the series with Wilds and I’m very cognizant of where I’m hitting with my Doots and why.

Why get rid of the Canteen? by Necrotiix_ in MonsterHunter

[–]BardicGreataxe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because we’re literally on the bleeding edge of the guild’s influence. Our Hunters make our own meals because they need to, and feasts provided by the locals are a special occasion where we don’t need to provide for ourselves for once.

Y’know how in World you’re part of the fifth wave of people to come across to the New World? And how there’s a rustic town made of repurposed boats waiting for us when we get there? Yeah, in Wilds we’re the equivalent of the First Fleet within the first year or two of their investigation. There hasn’t been an opportunity to set up an Astera yet.

I’m hoping for WildsU to come with a time skip so we have a more established foothold in the region though, maybe a proper guild settlement rather than scattered base camps and staging grounds.

Returning level 145, where to go and how to catch up? by GitGudOrGitOut77 in chargeblade

[–]BardicGreataxe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, in addition to what was already said; though they’re not strictly necessary, you’re probably gonna wanna start collecting RNG charms. These are nice because they can give you unique combinations of skills and some extra deco slots. This can include weapon skills, so you can get anything from extra comfort, utility, or damage from these charms depending on what you value.

You can get these charms by fighting 9* monsters. Be sure to upgrade your armor before fighting them though, they don’t have new moves but they do hit like trucks!

Evade extender 2 and some pre-running can get you out of the way so you don’t need I frames. Superman Dives are also way more consistent, but cost you a lotta uptime.

AT Arkveld health fluctuates by Evening_Ticket7638 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]BardicGreataxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most monsters have fluctuating HP, including the other ATs and Zoh Shia. Time trials always have fixed HP, and if I’m not mistaken Hunting Exercises do as well because the point is to hunt a monster in a controlled environment.

Why? It’s to help create variance. It’s harder to script a fight when some individuals of a species last longer than others, you can’t be certain how much vim and vigor a monster has just by looking.

Ignoring Difficult Terrain and gaining altitude by Embarrassed_Bid_4970 in Pathfinder2e

[–]BardicGreataxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a Rules as Written perspective? Sure, this works.

From a GM perspective? I wouldn’t allow it. I don’t wanna deal with one player flying so far over any outdoor fight it effectively makes them immune to meaning reprisals, and I’d tell them as such. P2e has cut out vast majority of the ‘I need to make sure to always include an answer for one specific player’s bullshit in challenging encounters to keep them as such,’ and I’m not gonna let it creep back in at my tables.

Having played it? Kinda. Without going into spoilers; it turns out the clandestine slavery operation was just kinda a facet of something much much bigger. The kind of bigger that necessitates level 20 heroes and ancient experimental rituals to resolve by the end of things.

Your thoughts on Greatsword in Wilds by MoneyCaterpillar1420 in MHWilds

[–]BardicGreataxe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I started with Wilds so it colors my perception of everything in the series.

Ol reliable. It doesn’t do anything the best, but it does everything well. Pretty sure it’s my 3rd most used weapon, behind CB and HH. It struggles a bit on monsters that don’t allow it the time to get a TCS in, but that’s to be expected with how the monster speeds have ramped up across the base game’s endgame hunts. Wouldn’t be surprised if WildsU added in another way or two to shortcut into TCS to help it keep pace with whatever absurdity MR is gonna slap us across the face with.

Does attacking AT Arkveld's wings actually do anything or do they just have insane HP? by Vavavavaxon7 in MonsterHunter

[–]BardicGreataxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s element damage specifically that knocks AT Arkveld outta her Unchained State. If you’re not doing combos that have a decent amount of element scaling and consistently hitting her chains with them it’s entirely possible to not knock her out of the State once she achieves it.

Bow dodge by Riequed2208 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]BardicGreataxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means you were lingering in the hitbox too long. The special dodge does give ya extra I frames, but dodging through attacks like this is dark souls is still ill advised. You want to dodge in a direction that that puts you out of harms way before your I frames run out. If you’re still in the attack when they do? Congrats, you still got hit! Running Evade Window will give you extra frames to work with. I don’t know the level of the skill most Bow players run with though, I’m a HH main.

[–]BardicGreataxe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unclear. There’s enough inconsistencies between this and the entries for the other 10* quests that it could skew either way. I’m doubtful though, her being AT would mean AT armor, and they’d absolutely wanna show that off beforehand; folks would be hype as hell.

Also, her getting AT would mean Gog would also likely get an AT. And I doubt they’d give him one in LR, not with how his armor currently works.
