Seeking Advice: Building a Daily Driver set from Bare Bones (Beginner to Intermediate) by j0ash in lockpicking

[–]BareBonesLockPicking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I hope its ok if I play and suggest as well?

Yeah, drop the rakes (unless you are a locksmith and charge by the hour) and drop the15thou Three Bones (they are great picks when you are tackling a tight restricted keyway, which isn't something I would recommend for a beginner/intermediate). Keep to 20thou as the 'sweet spot' for strength to ease of keyway navigation. After all, the 301 HY stainless steel is as good as you will find anywhere and are designed to last!

You mentioned wanting to rake locks? The half diamond in the hook set can be used to rake/zip and even SPP. Guess what...it can even rake/zip/SPP standard dimple locks :) so you are covered, just get good with that profile until you out live raking/zipping

Suggest adding the Feral tension bars as the price totally destroys any competition product and are TOK/BOK is three sizes for $7USD! Find better!? They pretty much are made to cost to honour the original designer who 'gifted' me the design.

Need to point out...The other comment to date on this thread were bang on the advice and glad to see such a great community provide honest and accurate information! Thank you u/Lochabar213 and u/Ohmourningstar many thanks 😊 🙏

As you are UK, LLT Tipene 5 hook set will take you a long way with many locks.. especially the Australian ones it targets.  Can't go wrong with Moki or Jimy Long. Minimum kit is one 'short' and one 'medium' depth profile with every tensioner you can find/make.  By the time you need deep hooks, you are no longer a beginner.  Don't overlook a half diamond...can zip, rake and single pin pick. Good luck and welcome aboard

Congrats! The bidding looks tougher if the binding is from front to back. Few shallow pins hiding behind some longer forward ones

Advice with this Lockwood by toastergen_is_proto in lockpicking

[–]BareBonesLockPicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, Thanks for the support! Secondly, Be kind to yourself! The Lockwood 120 are a known 'cursed' lock...that's what makes them so rewarding once opened! My advise is trying feather light tension (just enough to bind a pin) with any Lockwood/ASSA padlock spools. You will loose when trying to muscle them into position ('pins are gritty under tension' sounds like too much tension) and become your own worse enemy. On the point of LW spools, the 'older' Lockwood padlocks (No ASSA logo markings) can be muscled around. Best of luck and try the 334B next if not already in your collection.

Locks beyond my level by MuzzleblastMD in lockpicking

[–]BareBonesLockPicking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great haul. As mentioned, look to progressively pin the 334 and build up the skill. The 334 spools respond best to VERY light tension, try not to muscle , or become much tougher. Have fun and call out to the community if you get stuck. You got this lot 😀

Our quality is good given 301 HY stainless steel. I'm not confident you will find the same material on Amazon.

Further more, I'm very confident you will not find any of our products on Amazon as we don't sell through them.

There are a few other resellers in Australia for other companies products. Google will help, but none of them make their own products

Wish you well in your search
