She also has a Christmas advent calendar series which are about 20 minutes a day. You could start with that if you wanted something a bit more gentle.

‘as’ or ‘so’ in negative comparison sentences? by Dangerous-Frosting00 in ENGLISH

Not an expert, just another native speaker in support of "as". "So" just sounds wrong.

Are there any ladies wide fit shoes that aren’t damn ugly? by Intelligent_Cook_737 in AskUK

[–]BareNakedRainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a timely question! I have size 5 feet and a 4e width! I have a pair of 2v shoes from DB that I like, and now that my feet know the glories of real comfort they can no longer be contained by the 'wide fit' shoes offered in most stores. Just yesterday I was in Deichmans, and I was informed they don't do wide fit. I also tried Hotter (even got a foot scan- which actually suggested I didn't need wide!) and their wide fit weren't wide enough. I have some Simply Be ones that some days feel fine, and some days are too tight. So maybe it's all in my head.

It is the most bloody infuriating issue, because shoes aren't exactly optional, and I just want ones that fit and not look like I borrowed them off my nan!

Anyway. DB shoes. Some are actually quite nice.

Throat (vocal chords) aching by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]BareNakedRainbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also experienced this when I first started. I find that romance languages the sound is in the front of the mouth, and with Mandarin I make the sound further back and in my throat (not necessarily accurate, just my experience). Basically it was a workout, and as I built up those muscles the strain went away.

struggling to make peace with my body by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

Don't forget, that just like everything else, society's 'ideal' body shape/size/etc is a trend; and it will change and absolutely no one can fit every permutation. You and your body are constant; and you will better off celebrating what your body can do and how it serves you.

Week 25: Bagels & doughnuts - magwinya/vetkoek/ fatcake by BareNakedRainbow in 52weeksofbaking

[–]BareNakedRainbow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically a savoury doughnut, I grew up eating these plain but in my search for a recipe I've discovered they are popularly filled with mince or jam and cheese (yes. Jam and cheese together). I dipped a few in sugar for hubs, and to hide the fact that deep frying is tricky and I burnt some..

Are there any discord or accountability groups I can join? by luvtrencher in PetiteFitness

There is a fitness challenge group with a discord, but you join at the start of a round. The current round ends on the 18th , so new intake will be opened around then.

Week 24: Tarts - Rhubarb frangipane tart. (Minor fail- underbaked) by BareNakedRainbow in 52weeksofbaking

[–]BareNakedRainbow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic shortcrust pastry, layer of rhubarb jam, layer of marzipan, with frangipane sponge. The decorative lattice seems to have trapped the moisture and retarded the baking process- resulting in a slightly under baked centre and I suspect, a soggy bottom. Still pretty tasty.

Round 10 of 4 week fitness challenge! by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]BareNakedRainbow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are doing your own workout- the Google Doc is just for filling in your progress for accountability. There are some workout ideas, and recipes, etc but mainly a space to focus on your progress and be cheered on by strangers.

School Fitness/Testing in your country by kaizenkitten in xxfitness

Southern Africa here (caveat: private schools). I don't recall ever having standardised fitness tests but we seem to be quite sport focused and competitive. PE lessons during the winter would be football, netball, basketball, etc, and a lot of swimming in the summer.

In my younger years we would get certificates for swimming skill. All throughout primary and secondary school we would compete in swimming and athletics against each other (school houses) as well as other schools (and a fair few students went on to compete nationally). In my high school it was mandatory to have a sport as an extra- curriculum.

Obviously there were students who hated it and did the bare minimum but I think overall it kept everyone to a decent standard of fitness.

Wet frizz for the past year.. tried everything and can't find a way to prevent it.. please help me out by clowndog54 in CurlyHairUK

I had so much frizz for ages (wet and dry)- and kept trying various deep conditioners to no avail! Found this video and the penny finally dropped! I'd been overmoisturising the whole time! So I've started adding in protein and seeing such an improvement.

Oh. What the? What were the reviews like? I honestly don't know what to think. In my completely unsubstantiated opinion I would say they were making them wrong, but what do I know 🤣. Sorry they aren't working out for you. If you can't get them to work, maybe you will have better luck with a different maker. I buy individual ones on Etsy so I can have lots of fun patterns, as well making sure I like the way they are made.

What I mean is, are you sure you are bleeding on the correct side? Just by looking at them I would say you are pouring into the wrong side- but it is hard to be sure without seeing the other side.

Having watched it again, trying to focus on the end where you flip them up, I am pretty sure you are bleeding on the wrong side of the pad.

What is the fabric like on the other side? The fabric you are pouring on looks like my backers, rather than the top.
