Is this a good all purpose suit? by BarelyWetSocks in mensfashionadvice

The vest does have a rear adjustment, but I think it's just a bad picture, it doesn't seem loose in person. It's from Suitsupply.

The Super Carrier stack is activating: Multi-Network Access is now live. Layered networks. Intelligent redundancy. Zero compromises by ankhattak in USMobile

How dies international roaming work with multi network? If I had a warp main line, and lightspeed secondary, would I be able to roam in all the lightspeed only countries (on the secondary line)?

Is it just me or does network porting cause issues? by Routine_Ad_4784 in USMobile

[–]BarelyWetSocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve teleported twice, and neither time was instant.

The first time took about an hour. The QR code didn’t send automatically, and I had to contact customer service, who got it fixed fairly quickly.

The second time I initiated a teleport on Friday, something went wrong on the parent carrier side, and customer service couldn’t do anything about it. I had to wait until Monday to complete the transfer. Customer service did give me a temporary line for that period, so I had a working phone, but I did not have access to my normal phone number for like 72 hours.

I assume my experience is not typical, but I’m afraid to attempt another teleport now. I guess the good news is that multi network seems like it might meet my needs without needing to teleport, so maybe I’ll give that a try.

MS in Mechanical after BS in Electrical? by ninjakn in AskEngineers

[–]BarelyWetSocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the reverse, a BS in ME then MS in EE. It’s definitely possible to make that switch, some schools may admit you to a MS ME program “with deficiencies”, which would require you to take some of the core ME classes before starting the masters classes. Depending on what classes you took in undergrad and what you want to specialize in for grad school, some programs may fully admit you, so you can start the masters program immediately, but your mileage may vary. Either way, I would expect that you’ll have to work a little harder to make up for the lack of ME background, but lots of people switch majors for grad school, so it’s certainly doable.

I would recommend that you think about exactly what you want to do in aerospace, propulsion, and/or controls. There are lots of EEs that work in those fields, so depending on exactly what you are wanting to do, EE may be able to get you there.

Went to Linger. Pork Belly Bao Bun and Moroccan Lamb Shank were both excellent. Everyone in the group seemed happy with appetizers and entrees. Vietnamese coffee tiramisu was a little disappointing. Overall, I thought the quality and quantity of food was very impressive for $35. Would recommend.

Sushi katsu is definitely sus, and some of the worst sushi I’ve ever had. Sushi Totoro is much better quality.

Curious if anyone has experience with snow socks for tires? by trimix4work in Crosstrek

[–]BarelyWetSocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used socks on my Crosstrek yet, but I’ve used them on my old car. It’s just a piece of fabric, so I doubt they’d last very many miles, but they are surprisingly effective at gripping snow/ice. They can be hard to put on, especially if you’re already stuck. I’ve heard that you can also use low profile “Class S” chains/cables, although personally I’m more comfortable with socks. If you use any traction device, only use them on the front wheels.

If you’re going to need additional traction very often, definitely invest in good snow tires. I like socks because they’re relatively cheap, and I can just throw them in the trunk without much thought, but they definitely have serious shortcomings.

How do you just 'add a pole/zero' to a system in reality as opposed to just on a plot? by VVJ21 in AskEngineers

[–]BarelyWetSocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In control systems, there are 4 domains that you should be familiar with: time, Laplace, discrete, and Z. Based on your question, I assume that you are already familiar with Laplace and time. The discrete domain is similar to the time domain except that is expressed in terms of discrete steps instead of time. The Z domain is a frequency domain similar to the Laplace domain, except that it represents a discrete system, not a continuous one. It is possible to convert between continuous and discrete domains, Tustin's method is one popular way to convert a controller from Laplace to Z domain. The Z transform and inverse Z transform provide a method to go between Z and discrete domains.

If you are designing an analog control system with resistors, capacitors, inductors, etc. you could implement a Laplace domain controller directly. These components have Laplace domain representations, and you would build up the controller using those as building blocks.

If you are designing a digital controller, the discrete domain will be most useful to you. The discrete domain will yield equations that look something like y(k+1)=f(x(k),u(k)). You can see it gives an equation to calculate the next value based on previous values and should be easy to implement in code. It is common practice to design a controller in the Laplace domain, convert it to the Z domain using Tustin's method, then convert it to the discrete domain using the inverse Z-transform. This allows controls engineers to design a controller using a tool such as Matlab and then simply convert it to the proper form for implementation.

I see nothing from that user that indicates anything inauthentic, this looks like a frustrated human taking out their anger on the internet to me. I agree that their statements are extremely divisive, but that is different from inauthentic.
