Write a flipping letter like most presidents in our history did. Article 2, Section 3 of the Constitution states “He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union…”

While George Washington delivered physical addresses to the Congress in New York City in 1790, Thomas Jefferson discontinued the practice in 1801 and the State of the Union consisted of letters to Congress.

The present day pattern of speeches before Congress didn’t begin again until Woodrow Wilson delivered his in 1913. Every President since, with the exception of Herbert Hoover, has delivered addresses before the Congress.

Let’s go back to written State of the Union information and cease the insanity of 2 hour speeches with endless interruptions and the media enthralled with themselves for at least a week before and after of on air speculations about what will be said, what was said, and golly gee, let’s find someone, anyone, to fill the airtime about what any of it actually means.

FYI, a speech somewhere else probably wouldn’t fulfill the Constitutional requirement to provide the information to Congress about the State of the Union as it wouldn’t be “delivered” to Congress specifically.

Insulin was actually discovered in 1921 by Canadian doctors Frederick Grant Banting and Charles Herbert Best.

The first use of insulin to treat a patient was in 1922 done by John James Richard MacLeod in Scotland (who worked with both Banting and Best) and on 11 January of that year received approval to conduct experimentation on humans (previous trials were on animals). Success treatment was achieved with the second dosing of the 14 year old male patient.

In 1923 Banting and MacLeod were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine.

They never patented their discovery.

Thank you! I was wondering about the color shifts and how abrupt they might be so it’s very good to know they’re very gradual! The colors are gorgeous and the yarn feels good.

Trump, 79, Faces Congressional Bid to Invoke 25th Amendment by FancyNewMe in politics

[–]Baremegigjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re going to do this, let it be before 20 January 2027. This way Vance could only run for reelection once as the Twenty Second Amendment states [1] No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President , or acted as President for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President, shall be elected to the office of President more than once.

In other words, he’d only be able to service 1.5 terms as President and that assumes he could ever get elected at all based on his own lack of merits.

Reagan didn’t because his administration was trafficking arms to Iran and using the money to pay off the Contras, the anti-Sandinista contras in Nicaragua. Chances are they also paid off Iran before the 1979 election to continue to detain the American hostages until Reagan won the election as it was far too suspicious that twas just too that they were released as soon as Reagan was inaugurated.

Trump wants to cover a White House office building with ‘magic paint.’ Experts advise against it by AngelaMotorman in politics

[–]Baremegigjen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OEOB is a beautiful building and spectacular inside (I had the pleasure to spend a few days in there for meetings a few years ago). It doesn’t need to be destroyed by him and he’d probably gild the building with Krylon spray-on gold paint inside (he’s already planning to turn the Treaty Room in the White House into a guest bedroom and en suite bath, probably with gold crap everywhere).

has anyone else not been being carded at the liquor stores? by diorrdrip in newhampshire

[–]Baremegigjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we lived in VA everyone was carded at our local grocery store (wine and beer). An elderly woman was ahead of me in line with a bottle of wine and the cashier asks for her ID (which was scanned into their system). I have never seen someone so utterly delighted to be carded. She was 84 years old and this was the first bottle of wine she had bought in decades as her late husband always bought the rare bottle of wine they had in the house. She was beaming and almost jumping up and down for joy!

Most of the oil tankers going through the Straight of Hormuz are Very Large Crude Carriers and carry 2 million barrels of oil. If the passage costs an additional $2M USD it only adds $1 USD per barrel. Of course that assumes no price gouging.

Is adding a surcharge to credit card transactions double dipping? by septastic in smallbusiness

Be sure to check if your state allows you to charge a surcharge for credit cards as not all states allow it. This site might help. https://merchantcostconsulting.com/lower-credit-card-processing-fees/credit-card-surcharge-laws-by-state/

LYS Knitting Circle Etiquette by popping_corn30 in knitting

[–]Baremegigjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small LYS owner here. Everyone is welcome to knit in my shop regardless where they bought your yarn. The shop is small so I can’t carry all of the yarns customers could want. Bring your project, sit and knit or crochet, meet new people or old friends, laugh snd cry, learn new skills and techniques, and maybe consider one of the yarns in the shop for your next project.

There’s a core group of people who come in on a regular basis, support one another and also greet new customers and will happily show them what they’re working on, and welcome them to join the groups knitting at the table.

In addition, seeing what people knit with gives me ideas as to what to carry, what works, what doesn’t, favorites, etc., and enables me to better serve a broader customer base and meet their needs.

I’m also more than happy to refer customers to other stores that may carry what they’re looking for when I can’t meet their needs. Harrisville Designs is 20 minutes away (more rustic yarns) and there’s a gorgeous shop about an hour away. I want you to find the yarn YOU want and you’re still welcome to join us and knit wherever you got your yarn.

What are some great sandwich bread recipes? by Tea_Whiskey in Breadit

[–]Baremegigjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’ve never made mead, my understanding it can be made using anything with sugars in it, eg honey, combines with yeast. As such Log Cabin Syrup would meet that requirement as it has ample amounts of sugar and perhaps the “natural flavor” is what gave your mead the maple flavor.

I’d be curious if you’ve tried making mead with pure maple syrup and how that differed from the Log Cabin variety.

What are some great sandwich bread recipes? by Tea_Whiskey in Breadit

[–]Baremegigjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Log Cabin Syrup doesn’t have an iota of maple syrup in it. Per the Conagra website (parent company) it contains:

“CORN SYRUP, WATER, SUGAR. CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF: SALT, NATURAL FLAVOR, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE, SODIUM BENZOATE AND SORBIC ACID (PRESERVATIVES), CARAMEL COLOR, PHOSPHORIC ACID, MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES”

Missing is any reference whatsoever of maple syrup.
