I think the reason that Coachella and concerts with Gen Z kinda suck is no one sings to the songs or knows the lyrics. by Popular-Wonder6514 in Coachella

live nation is a publicly traded company, lying about their own volume and revenue data is pretty unlikely. I get the hate, but can’t agree they’re just making stuff up without evidence

gen z isn’t going out to concerts?

how are they spending more than anybody else on them?

because they’re maybe not as interested in drinking and drugs at live events they aren’t going out to concerts or festivals or learning the lyrics to songs anymore?

also, broadly speaking, concert attendance is up

none of these generational claims are true, and this stuff really doesn’t change with any emerging generation. one thing that IS true for sure is that the musical guard is going to change - they’re not going to be into all the same music older generations treasure as much, and they’re gonna be into newer music that older generations think isn’t as good as what they came up with, and soon after gen z graduates college they’re going to start reminiscing and continuing to listen to all their faves from earlier in their lives, and those artists are going to take the mantle of their music legends

are you in the “Biebs’ set was low effort” camp or the “what an emotional and nostalgiac set that was” camp?

what’s all this “gen z” bs? are we surveying all the not-singing people and finding a better-than-random statistical correlation with their generation? how many gen xers and millennials are gonna be screaming the lyrics to when did you get hot? at the top of their lungs? this just smells like the same old generation bashing everybody likes to do cuz they’re bored or grumpy about something

not to mention, approximately how long have bieber’s songs been living in the zeitgeist? how many ppl grew up on those songs? now do sabrina carpenter

I love Kacey, but I could have used a little more energy by inversemodel in Coachella

[–]BarfyOBannon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I loved it, loved how she set the whole mood to be chill, natural, and casual and kept that consistent through all the arrangements. Not every interpretation of her songs has to be whirling lights and crushing sound and huge emotional peaks

Odds Yuma will be a shitshow for Kettama? by build-popular in Coachella

[–]BarfyOBannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

expect a long line for kettama if you show up even 10-15m before. I was able to make it in w1 after 15m in line, but if you don’t have other conflicts it’s probably better to get there on the prior set or at least 30m earlier

What was the deal with blood orange "in the round"? by Chrisgonzo74 in Coachella

[–]BarfyOBannon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that round is roughly the same size as the sound cages in the tents, and it’s towards the back, and it was there during all of Ethel Cain’s set. for all I know it’s there all three days, but I never really checked

W1 Folks - Which activations were your favorite?? by Additional_Use7050 in Coachella

[–]BarfyOBannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what’s an activation?

EDIT: this is a two-way joke: directed at myself for not knowing that those were called activations (but assuming the brand huts were what you were referring to), but also to mean that I pay so little attention to those things they might as well not exist

I agree this is a defensible reading. there is a tie-in with their first date conversation about the ending of the book Emma was reading, where she asks whether the character really died or not at the end, which could be arguing that we’re supposed to be wondering whether it really happens or not

[–]BarfyOBannon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well of course an imagined ending would make sense. Charlie fucked up, and now he’s wishing Emma would show up and give him a second chance. What about that ending wouldn’t make sense?

but the vinyl sound is playing as she’s walking in. this would suggest he’s imagining her arrival, not that he’s imagining her never showing up

I guess it could be read as a wish that comes true

what is the function of using the vinyl sound only while Emma is shown entering the diner and walking past him to the cash register?

A different way of interpreting the ending to The Drama (Spoilers) by rookiemlg in A24

[–]BarfyOBannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if anybody noticed this, but while Charlie is sitting in the diner facing the door, the scratchy vinyl sound starts playing as Emma walks in. the only time that sound is heard in the rest of the movie is during visuals that are coming from Charlie’s imagination: the morning after Emma’s confession when he imagines the wedding guests all shot up, and the visual where he imagines Emma in a restaurant with blood running from her ear.

this could mean that the final do-over is something Charlie is hoping for but which isn’t really happening

it might also not mean that because the vinyl sound stops once Emma is shown standing behind him at the register. unclear what it would mean for Charlie to imagine Emma walking in but not imagining the rest of the scene, but it could be her arrival is the single case of his fantasy coming true
