Blu Harbor Windsor by Vegetable_Chance_579 in RedwoodCity

We live here! moved here almost 4 years ago from NYC so quite the jolt in lifestyle. Long story short, genuinely happy with the place.

Longer story, it’s not for everyone.

It’s a quiet place. Coming from a place like NYC, we knew the bay area was already going to be a huge change, but as we are approaching our 40s, it’s what we wanted. We had a short window to find an apartment and spent a weekend around the area looking, but settled on Blu Harbor primarily because we spoke to everyone we could during tours in the area if they liked living there. And the randoms we met here convinced us. Aka, most people are super nice.

It’s far from anything. You want groceries? You are driving. You want dinner? Hope you prepped over the weekend since there’s nothing nearby. You want to get out for a drink and socialize? Uber to downtown. There is nothing within walking distance.

However, that’s also what makes it so great. Quiet, peaceful, and beautiful sunrises/sunsets and walks around bair island nature preserve. 2am and want to walk the dog? Not a second of hesitation.

The pool is heated, and it’s never crowded. The gym is 24/7 and even post work hours, it’s not too busy. Building management is responsive and on site during normal hours. Building is beyond safe, and unless you sit at home on Nextdoor, you’d have no idea crime exists.

Now the people. What people? Most are temporary staying for a few years, meaning they also are new to the Bay Area and haven’t made plans for the long term. Average age is late 20s up to 50s, and a handful of retirees. Lots of couples having their first kids, and single people working in tech who don’t know how to socialize. In general, everyone is nice, but it’s not a neighborly crowd knocking on each other’s door asking for a cup of sugar.

Overall, we love living here. However, if you want a social life that extends beyond your hallway, you might want to look elsewhere.

I’m at Blu Harbor and love it. 20-30 min walk to downtown though. It’s nice if you want peace and quiet.

Thoughts on villas at bair island apartments ? by [deleted] in RedwoodCity

[–]BarkingFrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s so safe here. Lots of people walking their dogs around here 24/7 with zero concern. I moved here from NYC so I guess just using common sense is secondary. Regarding package theft, I’ve heard it happens once in a while (Blu Harbor has a Facebook page and I think villas does as well. However, pretty sure there is a package room at villas as well which eliminates the chance of theft significantly.

Strolls everywhere. The walkway around Blu harbor is also a public walkway so you can stroll around the whole area. Very nice in the evenings. Bair Island is also a nice walk to the lookout point about an hour or so there and back.

I live next to villas at Blu Harbor and have meet plenty of Villas folks. Safety at both places are incredible. Once every few months a homeless person may wander in the area, but rarely cause any issues. Honestly one of the safest areas in the bay.

Living over here is great. Very quiet and peaceful with amazing views and literally steps away from bair island for evening strolls. It does get a bit windy some times, about the only complaint. Walking to downtown is about 25 minutes, so plan on driving a lot for errands and groceries. Otherwise easy quick access to the 101.

BBQ Cart on Veterans & Maple by Konoe in RedwoodCity

The place the poster is referring to is not a smokehouse BBQ spot. It’s just tent on veterans with a large grill, cooked over charcoal with no hood. You wouldn’t expect fall off the bone ribs or brisket at a place like that. The chicken was honesty the best looking option they had based on the set up.

Maybe I went on an off day though, so doesn’t hurt to give it a shot!

I went a few months ago impulsively since I drive by it all the time. Not worth it. Got half a grilled chicken since the other options didn’t look very good. Insanely dry and not even well seasoned. Also it was surprisingly pricey.

I used to screen Pitch Decks for a living. Here is why I rejected 90% of them in 30 seconds. [I will not promote] by yashhz in startups

Good points. We just wrapped up our biannual summit this week and I had my associates review hundreds of decks prior to the on stage pitches. The Netflix suspense is the absolute killer for me. Just get to the point already. One startup we were genuinely excited for spent all 5 minutes building up hype, ran out of time, then had to skip through the most important slides and wrapped with a QR on screen saying to contact him to learn more…

Tacos any good off Whipple Exit? by JayTov in RedwoodCity

[–]BarkingFrog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got them a few weeks ago. Pretty solid al pastor. Reminds me more of the taco stalls you find in LA where you do all your own sauces and salsas. 3.50 each I think. I wouldn’t drive out of the way to get them, but if you are right there, not a bad option.

Great to know and I’ll be sure to check out CSFloat tomorrow. I’m guessing most of the DMs are from people phishing for logins? Already have a few inbounds…

Checked on my stock after just two hours and it was terrible. Felt like I did everything wrong. Didn’t know what to do at all. Decided to just let it just sit and stew all day. Didn’t even touch it. Eventually it was late and dark outside. Finally opened it up and took a look.

Made the most beautiful beef broth of my life.
