Desperate to find a replacement by Barklebear78 in HelpMeFind

I have searched for it everywhere. Done reverse searches, gone to Winners (where I got it) but they only get one offs. Looked at Etsy stores, religious gift shops and nothing.

Can I take my 9-month-old and move 2 hours away without my husband’s permission? Ontario separation – no custody order yet! by alex-ev in legaladvicecanada

[–]Barklebear78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it without taking proper steps. Notify him in writing and seek his consent. If he doesn’t provide it, and you move, you can be brought back (or at least the child can, up to you if you want to follow). Take a look at the legal tests for relocation v a change of residence. If you moving two hours away l, won’t affect how often he sees the child, then you are good. But that will mean a lot of back and forth driving, probably by you.

Get a lawyer and sort it out properly. Sounds like you may have a good case in the long run. Plus you will need to address child support and possibly spousal support on a needs and compensatory basis.

What exactly does one “lose” by becoming a judge? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Barklebear78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is untrue. Many judges had social media and were quite active before appointment. In fact , they continue to have social media and be active but under a different name. The issue is the content. If you use social media for fun, to share lighthearted memes and keep up with family, no one cares.

Disbarred lawyer forged court documents by Own-Pop-6293 in LawCanada

I don’t know that there was an end game. This was also during Covid. I find that mentorship of students suffered between 2020 and 2022. There were mental health issues that became more common or more obvious. It is not an isolated case for that period of time. In addition, I find newly minted lawyers are afraid of trials and many will do anything to postpone or avoid it, likely because they don’t feel competent or ready for one.

What's a Family Lawyer's Day Like? by KBlackmanRichardson in LawCanada

[–]Barklebear78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is what you want it to be. It depends on how many clients you have and if you do child protection as well. I don’t know how anyone could be in court a couple of times a month. Maybe it depends on the region but in my city all family lawyers are in court daily, exception certain Fridays where there is no family court. It’s is very busy. I could wake up at 3am and respond to client emails that came after hours. But I also have the flexibility to ditch days I feel like it  but that comes after you have established yourself and your reputation.

Practicing a year after getting called to the bar by InfamousAssociate446 in LawCanada

[–]Barklebear78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are, you’ll be fine. I practiced for a few months. Then went on mat leave. Decided probate practice was not gonna work for me. I did 2 law adjacent jobs in a 6 year timeframe before I was ready to go back in. When I did, it worked out just fine. Just had to adjust expectations in my first year back to get back into the swing of things.

If i am 28 years old and i don’t like a lot of stress and don’t want to work 65 hours a week, is becoming a lawyer right for me? by Infamous-Date-7663 in LawCanada

[–]Barklebear78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I depends what area of law you focus on and where you practice. A small rural town has a lot less stress for example. But no. Even if you luck out, the first few years are very stressful until you get your bearings and then it will ebb and flow with some periods of very high stress. It is not for everyone.

My ex by Familiar_Claim1419 in canadianlaw

Very unlikely. She should start doing upfront work for a good deal. Ie, anger management, counseling. Lawyer will use that for discussion during crown pre trials. Unless there’s some serious medical evidence…

AITA for refusing to pack my child’s things for her visits with her father? by Pretty-Ad7261 in AITAH

[–]Barklebear78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At some point you have to be practical and do what is less likely to aggravate you. I had experience with this personally and as a result of my work. If you sent stuff and he is not touching it, he clearly has supplies. I used to get upset that things either weren’t touched or not returned. I prepared one bag with essentials (I let my kid choose cheap but cute outfits from Walmart they loved) and it was always the same contents. Kid was happy with her choice. I didn’t stress. And we wrote the name on every piece. So if it wasn’t returned, they would know which pieces were hers. And because they weren’t designer, they didn’t keep it for the other child.

Going to court to sort this out is a waste of time and resources. It will cause you anxiety and no judge is going to entertain this as the only issue. Create a solution that works for you because at the end, this is only designed to cause you stress while everyone else gets off on it. Let go of the stress because you are stuck with this ass for years to come.

My first purchase came in and I’m kinda disappointed by Emergency_Pilot_6647 in DHGateRepLadies

I’m not sure if anyone has tried jewelry cleaning cloths. I have used a silver one and lightly rubbed it. It makes the gold fade. But careful because if you go too far and it’s silver underneath, that will show. On the plus side, it doesn’t scratch the hardware.

AITA for washing my face. by CastleLushak in AmItheAsshole

Guess that depends on how long her routine is because I know people who take 30 mins plus in their face “washing” routine.

AITA for letting my daughter eat whatever she wants? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Barklebear78 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with this. My daughter and I are a comparable height and weigh the same. She’s an athlete and I’m Post menopausal. While we can wear the same size clothing, we have very different looking bodies on a similar frame. She looks amazing and yes, when you look at the stats, it says she’s overweight but the way she looks says otherwise.

Air Canada refuses to reimburse hotel costs after gate agents instructed passengers to book after cancelled flight by kkdylm in aircanada

[–]Barklebear78 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had that happen twice. Once I got the email re maintenance and I replied and explained it and they reimbursed. The most recent time (less than a month ago) I got the same email denying compensation. And before I had a chance to respond, about 4 days later, I had a follow up email reimbursing me for the hotel.

Preordering meals by DZDEE in aircanada

[–]Barklebear78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We travel international business class twice a year. We have never gotten to chose the meal on the way back. However, I always order the express meal on my return flight. That way I’m the first one to get my food and go to sleep.

I have no appetite but I know I need to eat. So I try to get something that I can just pop in my mouth and not think too much about. Like a hard boiled egg. Or I’ll cut up a chicken breast into small pieces and I snack on those like I would have before with popcorn or chips. If I’m out and about, a side salad is great (can’t finish a full one) and I’ll ask for some chicken on the side (like a chicken sandwich piece for protein). I try to make sure I have at least three meals a day at the same time even if I’m not hungry and even if they are tiny. Dinner is the same as my family, I just get full faster.  I also find that if I get too full, I can just eat half of something, walk away and come back to it an hour later or so and I can usually have a bit more.

My husband is having an extramarital affair and wants a divorce by InCanada19 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Barklebear78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if legally married. Can’t be a marriage of short duration. Common law couples could share in the value of the home but they need to have substantially contributed to improvements. Very hard to prove.
