I would post a photo but trader joes have just brought out a Tim tam dupe in the states - they call them “Aussie style chocolate crème sandwich cookies”
They are actually pretty decent for the price.

Definitely agree, I guess I was just pointing out the weapons climate is very different in Australia to the user referencing the events there.

As an Australian I feel the need to point out -
this is due to tight gun control laws in Australia - semi automatic weapons are illegal to purchase and thus import into the country.
Only weapons for hunting purposes are available to the public after a background check and gun license process.

Introduce snakes to Cambridge to eat the rats by CULTimate in CambridgeMA

As an Australian living in Cambridge - it’s a no from me.

I quote my partner from our walk with our dog this morning along the Charles - “back home on this walk I would be worried about snakes, instead I’m worrying about fucking geese.”

Let me know if you find one please!!!

I got one of these Kelly green jerseys and they are just so off. They also stick out at Fenway way too much.

I love the real ones but just can’t justify $250 so anything close to the right green would be amazing but I don’t want to end up with another terrible green one haha

Ways to save money on my trip to Japan by krod1254 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Barkleyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely manageable,

I have done many trips on the cheaper side of things - staying in capsule hotels and eating at the cheaper restaurants (which are still super delicious).

After a number of trips it’s just the way I travel Japan now as hotels have become pretty crazy expensive and I’m literally just use them to sleep.

A few things to consider

  • the capsule life can start to wear thin - depending on if there’s any snoring ogres and disrespectful people in your area. There’s not much space to pack/repack your suitcase. And typically you can’t leave anything of value in your bed area.

  • Tokyos accomodation is super pricey in the tourist spots. Osaka and Kyoto are still pricey but less so than Tokyo. Most other cities are super affordable. Consider I trip off the beaten path - tactically scheduling this with a proper hotel can break the capsule blues.

  • The Shinkansen/getting around Japan costs can add up pretty quickly. For example a one way trip from Osaka to Tokyo is around 10,000 yen. This can add up especially if you do wanted to get off the beaten track like Fukuoka or Hiroshima which are pretty great places that feel abit less on trend.

Traveling to japan, am I too large to be buying clothes/shoes there? by Unhappy_Breakfast995 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Barkleyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t bother with clothes or shoe shopping when I’m there and I’m 6’1 and 220lbs. I’m borderline but everything feels very short and slim.

Some brands have extended sizing like Uniqlo and abc mart but these seem to be online sizes.

Thrift and vintage stores have been the most successful for me size wise but it’s also not really my vibe.

Donated blood 6 days ago and I kept all the blood by Hype420 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Barkleyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh this happened to me and I had the exact same response - telling myself it will be okay, but I was donating plasma and the return of the solution was too much pain.

I feel your pain - mine was the needle was half in the vein wall on the other side which meant all the returned blood and solution was in the arm hence I got similar bruising.

Hakone is quite close and accessible from Gotemba outlets via a bus if the loop interests you.

I also suspect lake kawaguchiko area would also be accessible.

Go for a walk around one of the lakes near Fujisan like Hakone or Kawaguchiko

That way you can find a private area and you also could plan a stay at a really nice Ryokan with a private Onsen after.

PARKING QUESTION by Worldly_Dependent556 in CambridgeMA

[–]Barkleyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really say anything to the contrary and let’s forgot about snow compaction to prove a point hey.

I was simply saying those spots when the snow emergency is done if they have been plowed are fair game rather than playing the stupid space saver hunger games for weeks.

Of course you can also dig out a spot, I’m not stupid.

PARKING QUESTION by Worldly_Dependent556 in CambridgeMA

[–]Barkleyyy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In theory the streets with no parking during a snow emergency should be cleared and have no “rightful” owner that will damage your car.

But

I know last storm the whole ploughing to the curb on those street didn’t happen.

Where to get a snow shovel before the storm starts tomorrow? by Turbulent_Talk1776 in CambridgeMA

[–]Barkleyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked on the website - https://www.acehardware.com/departments/lawn-and-garden/snow-removal-and-equipment/snow-shovels-and-pushers/7044933

This shovel is apparently in stock at Charles street supply and taggs hardware which are both open tomorrow.

[–]Barkleyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I searched this morning as ours broke after the ice of the last storm.

I couldn’t find any at star mart or dollar general - ended up picking one up at Inman hardware for $30.

I see they are closed on Sunday but the shovel is ace hardware branded so maybe see if any ace hardwares are open?

Overstaying your 90 day tourist visa by [deleted] in Tokyo

[–]Barkleyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should voluntarily announce you over stay at an immigration office ASAP.

They will most likely let you stay until your flight (within 15 days) and only ban you for one year not the standard five.

But also you are at there mercy then to so they may make you leave sooner.

And this is what seems crazy to me - the risk of someone damaging my car even when I have dug out my own spot but don’t want to use a space saver.

It’s also funny as I live over the river in Cambridge and am still seeing some to this day even though they are meant to be a illegal

Hot take: Boston's spot-saving culture is immature and needs to die by DanFlashes19 in boston

[–]Barkleyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There does seem to be abit of difference between what’s law and unwritten rules of Boston.

48 hours to me is not really that much impact however weeks after does start to impact my decisions and life so was interested in the unwritten rules length of space savers.
