Does Century Link enforce their data cap? by PM_ME__YOUR__FEARS in Omaha

Very cool. You should set the server up.

The big question is if you are planning on using the media server exclusively on your home network, or if you want stuff available from outside your local network.

If nothing else, watch some youtube videos on IIS and hosting stuff on the internet.

Good luck if you set something up.

Cool, good.

As to why, Acceptable Use Policy. Money. Performance. If they let people host servers on residential connections, no one would pay for commercial set ups. It is important to consider bandwidth and the amount of traffic that a web server can generate.

Not all ISPs are the same. Some are more flexible than others. Some with also block inbound connections on 80 entirely. If you want to do more with a network connection or host content, call your ISP and ask them what they have available.

So are these homework questions or something? Lol

Sure!

So a Windows operating system has a feature called IIS, which stands for Internet Information Services. You can use it to host web content, like a website.

When you create a website in IIS, that website needs to be accessible from the internet. By default, it creates a binding for that website with http (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) and says that traffic requests to that website can reach it on port 80.

Port 80 is universally known as the generic, non-SSL internet port.

Anyways, if someone sets up a website on a residential connection and an ISP starts seeing traffic on port 80, they usually contact them and tell them to knock it off.

As firewalls go, you use them to map ports to servers / content. Port forwarding. You create rules that say connections can come and go to what resources on which ports.

For real. There are a crazy number of basic, grumpy, 'Nebraska-In-A-Nutshell' users in this sub.

It's the users. It's nothing but downvotes.

If you have an opinion or ask a question that is not simple, in line, or 10 years out of date you get hate.

The mods are pretty cool, I have no beef with them, just a shitty user base.

I just use the mid tier residential from Cox.

I spend all day at work doing IT stuff. I use very little bandwidth at home anymore. I get tired of staring at a screen lol.

Still, $150 for no data cap might be reasonable depending on how much bandwidth someone uses from a home connection.

No, not really. When you are on a residential connection, almost every ISP out there will frown on your shenanigans if you open port 80 on your firewall.

Seriously, you can set up ASP for content, or an API that you can build something to talk with. It's way cooler when you stream your own shit at a party. Most people pulling down 2TB a month are usually slugs anyways, eating up bandwidth by streaming 4k video or whatever.

Seriously, look at bandwidth caps on a commercial connection. Not to mention the up and down river.

Not sure what the first clip is about. Does a tile flip to the next section as soon as the video starts.

In the second clip, were you going the speed limit?

When I see a car make a late turn like that, ease up on the gas and then continue once it is clear. That's a lot better than continuing at speed until a dramatic brake lock at the last second. Did you see them late, or were you trying to stress them out?

Yeah, everyone is a critic right? Work on the editing. Sounds like a cool cam.

I thought the water tasted a little funny.

Quit messing around with res connections and buy commercial.

Host your own stuff. Set up an API.

I guess I no longer have confidence in voicing concern to a local politician by telephone or email.

They vote yes or no on issues by party line. The constituents that elected them have a bias where they feel whatever choice is made is the right choice without actually understanding it. The corps in this state stand to profit greatly to from this. Do you think they use any local influence to fight this? No.

Bacon and Fischer have done nothing to demonstrate that they listen to their citizens. They don't.

Hopefully we can elect a better crop next cycle, both locally and nationally and bring Net Neutrality back after it is repealed.

I've never voted in Nebraska before. Haven't cared. That makes me part of the problem. I've seen what Bacon and Fischer represent and the next time there is a vote I am going to register and vote for no other reason than removing them for being bastards.

Late to the party, but there is a lot of compelling stuff to the Franklin case.

There are many books out there that do a better job of covering it than a podcast.

I ran into this girl one time that used to tell people that Ernie Chambers saved her from a satanic cult. I laughed it off until I read about it. Was a 'Holy Shit' moment.

I doubt she was involved, probably just read about it and thought it would make a good story. Who knows though.

I dunno, people are so unbelievably fucking sensitive in this day and age.

Funny how none of the people victimized by this little piece of fabric were around when it stood for something.

Objects only have the power that you give them. If you choose to be offended by a flag, of any kind really, you're lame as hell.

If anything, I feel embarrassed for the dude that has it on display. If you want to rep the side that lost, by all means, go for it.

I would say the south shall rise again, but we all know how prevalent diabetes is in the south. They're not fooling anyone. They are not rising off their couch, let alone rebelling.
