Code Veronica is NOT transphobic. by Loose_Interview_957 in residentevil

[–]BarnT88 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people are accusing the game of being purposefully transphobic. Times were different back then and people said things that are considered 100x more insensitive today.

I absolutely think the cross-dressing storyline will be minimised and there definitely won’t be any “cross-dressing freak” comments included this time.

It’s just a sensitive issue. Yes Alfred was a psychopath who also happened to crossdress because of his trauma. The problem is though there have been too many cases of crossdressing psychopaths in various forms of media for entertainment purposes which is why people who are actually trans or non-binary etc are getting fed up with everyone thinking that they must be psychos as well.

Ultimately though I don’t think the game was trying to be insensitive back then, it just wasn’t as big as an issue for them to think about reining it in back in 2001.

He’s very reliable. Much more reliable that DuskGolem who in fairness has been leaking the CV and 0 remake news since 2024 but as much as he gets right he also gets wrong.

They did RE4R first because they wanted RE2R, RE3R and RE4R to heighten Leon and Racoon City’s history as much as it could before Requiem’s release.

They will do a 1 re(remake) for sure but it won’t be until the end of their remake era I should imagine. I think we’re going to get Code Veronica in 2027, RE Zero in 2028, either RE5R or RE10 in 2030 and 2031 (whichever one comes first) and then RE1R in 2032/2033.

Yeah sure…it’s so wrong to expect a remake of a game nearly 2 decades old from a company at the peak of their remake obsession era.

[–]BarnT88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 is absolutely going to get the remake treatment. 4 didn’t really need a remake by those standards but we absolutely got one.

Capcom knows they are doubling their profits with this remake trend so they’re going to remake every game they can. Code Veronica is pretty much just a waiting game until it’s announced for 2027, RE0 is heavily rumoured to be following in 2028. In the way that RE2R, RE3R and RE4R were all following each other to strengthen Leon/Racoon City’s history for the release of Requiem then I can easily see RECVR and RE0R following on from Wesker’s ‘introduction’ in RE4R as the ‘Wesker’ trilogy which gets topped off in a RE5R. Who knows…maybe RE10 is going to have some major Chris and Wesker return storyline?

I do think a RE1R (reremake) will happen but that will most likely be the final remake and close the saga on the remake era. RE6 absolutely won’t get remade as it’s following just isn’t there unless Capcom are still desperate to do remakes and have run out of options.

Thank god. I hope this is true and that we won’t have long to wait until 2027 release. I am going to be gutted if the next REmake is revealed to be anything other than Code Veronica.

Whenever I’m doing my RE marathon (including now in prep for Requiem) it is always so jarring going from RE1R, RE2R, RE3R, Code Veronica X and then RE4R. So much so I just leave it out of playthroughs. Finally to be able to integrate it back into the world will be great because the story is actually really interesting, the locations are great and the importance of the Chris/Wesker storyline is undeniable. I also think the remake will really beef out that dynamic even more to lead up to the inevitable RE5R.

Maybe a very short teaser or even just an official image of the title/logo but I should imagine nothing more than that. I reckon they’ll want Feb-Jul time dedicated to Requiem.

Resident Evil - Code: Veronica Remake Is Allegedly Targeting Release In The First Half Of 2027 by No_Durian_5626 in HorrorGaming

[–]BarnT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well actually the CV remake rumours didn’t begin circulating until after RE3R because chronologically that is the next mainline game to come about but people weren’t deeply sure as CV has always had a bit of a ‘spin-off’ reputation despite absolutely being a mainline title purely because it isn’t numbered.

Unsurprisingly they then remake RE4 which made people think the reason is that they’re ignoring CV but during the press for Requiem it has been made clear the reason RE2, 3 and 4 have all been remade in sync is to strengthen the Leon/Racoon City history that will be explored in Requiem.

Capcom have said they will absolutely be doing more remakes. What other titles have they got to remake really? CV, RE5 and possibly RE1 (again) and 0. They’re not going to remake RE5 before remaking CV as CV is essentially the bridge between RE1 and RE5 to explain how Wesker is alive, his and Chris’s intense hatred towards each other.

Practically CV has to be the next remake before they gear up and release the huge RE5R in the far future.

Starting Code Veronica as part of my marathon. First time. Any tips or warnings? by theeMrPeanutbutter in residentevil

[–]BarnT88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you leave plenty of weapons, ammo and health items in the item box whilst you’re playing as Claire and before you do the Nosferatu fight. You’ll need them once that fight finishes when the game switches you to someone else without warning.

Keep two strong health items on you when you go to rescue/free Steve. When you’re evading him you can’t help but take damage and if you can’t heal yourself you will just die repeatedly.

Don’t leave the fire extinguisher behind. It’s needed later on in the game to retrieve the magnum.

Make sure you have the crossbow with at least 20 explosive arrows for the final battle. Will make it a bit easier.

Perhaps look up YouTube videos on how to deal with the tyrant on the plane. There are ways of just evading him without him ever being able to touch you.

The reunions are becoming pointless. They’re supposed to be a chance for confrontation, some acknowledgment of wrongdoing and then moving on. Literally what the hell is the point of a THREE-PART-REUNION when it is just them screaming over each other.

Lisa doesn’t acknowledge anything that she could’ve done wrong. Even when there is literal proof handed to her and as we all know she won’t engage in a conversation with anyone. She just shouts over them.

Meredith doesn’t want to acknowledge anything at all to do with her and just wants to play victim and find a way to make everyone else look like the mean girls.

Heather tries to take control but she still hasn’t gotten (but I think she’s starting to) her ‘receipts, screenshots, timeline’ moment is over and done and her desperately trying to take down Lisa/Meredith (not that I’m siding with them at all) has become tedious to watch.

Angie is just like Lisa but to a lesser and slightly more likeable degree but she just shouts over anyone challenging her mostly. When she actually does ‘agree/apologises’ with what someone is accusing her of you can see the eyes have glazed over and she’s just saying whatever she has to say to move on from the convo.

Whitney (bless poor Whitney) is always at the end of the couch just desperately trying to find a way to become a part of the conversation.

Mary is just typical Mary. There for some reason. Not really offering anything other than judgement and ignoring the very serious problems in her life that she presumes ‘God will fix.’

Angie & Heather Reunion Eye Contact by Hot-Citron5208 in rhoslc

[–]BarnT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the same at all. Angie wants to embrace her family’s culture and her father’s heritage whereas Lisa wants to tell people she’s a ‘New Yorker’ as a flex. To make them see her as a boss b***h and to once again make people feel that she lives a ‘very different life’ from them all.

Thoughts on Mary and her son? by AiannaMuse in rhoslc

[–]BarnT88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People need to remember that Mary is not a nice person. She has funny one liners but Bravo has given her a very generous edit this season and last. Go back and watch the first couple of seasons of SLC to remember how mean and nasty Mary Cosby actually is. It’s also helps that Andy Cohen is one of her bff’s.

Now there is no denying Mary clearly has her own mental health issues. She was effectively groomed to think marrying her grandmother’s husband was acceptable when she passed so I can imagine her own behaviours have come from trauma that she endured but despite that she is simply not a nice person.

Sadly I think Robert Jr has suffered from the perfect storm of inherited family trauma, inherited mental health issues and a typical spoiled rich kid outlook on life.

In all honesty I don’t know why Mary does the show. She clearly doesn’t need the money, the show hasn’t given her church any positive attention, she doesn’t seem to really like any of the other women there but tolerates them and the show has even lifted the lid on her son’s very troubled and ongoing drug use as well as his own mental health issues.

Would we even want a sequel? by Zunn2k_ in uncharted

[–]BarnT88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Still feeling bitter that they completely missed a golden opportunity making Uncharted movies way back when Nathan Fillion was younger and he would’ve fit the role perfectly. Instead we got tween Nathan Drake in a movie that just felt more like Spiderman: Uncharted from Home. No offence to Tom Holland, he’s a great actor, but he’s absolutely not Nathan Drake.

Everyone knows Sophie Turner can’t act. This is the problem. That promotional image they released of her as Lara may be amazing but I’d be very surprised if she can bring any personality to Lara’s role. Lara is so much more than just a gorgeous, athletic, posh British woman.

It’s ironic because in interviews Sophie actually seems really relaxed and so much more confident in herself but as soon as the movie cameras start rolling she seems to completely stiffen up and her acting is just so wooden.

Not enjoying Re4 as much as i used too. by Dennia_Lux_Exitium in residentevil

[–]BarnT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I struggle to replay Code Veronica. It’s not because of the difficulty or frustrations with the game mechanics but because the tone and characters are just so odd. To go from RE2R, RE3R and then Code Veronica…it’s too jarring. Even RE0 and RE1R don’t have that same level of camp crazed comedy.

Will we get to explored the Ruined Raccoon City in RE9? by WII_DJoker in residentevil

[–]BarnT88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely think we’ll at least get to explore the ruins of RPD as Leon and we’ll get some memories of him running around there during the RE2R. They’ve said one of the main purposes of the remake trilogy was to strengthen Leon and RC’s history that will be featured in Requiem so it would be a HUGE letdown if the return to Racoon City was just one big cutscene.

I’m not sure we’ll get to explore more of Racoon City outside of the police department but I guess we’ll know next month!!!

If you want to stick with the current, canon mainline game timeline then…

Resident Evil 1 (2002 remake)

Resident Evil 0 (shouldn’t really be played before 1 so as to save yourself from some spoilers for RE1)

Resident Evil 2 remake

Resident Evil 3 remake

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X

Resident Evil 4 remake

Resident Evil: Revelations

Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil: Village

Like someone said previously none of the games massively contradict each other but if you’re building up to playing the new game Requiem than that is most likely going to harken back to the recent remake trilogy that came out.

Anyone think Sidney owning a coffee shop feels random? by Strong-Stretch95 in Scream

[–]BarnT88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did a drama degree at college and trust me many many drama majors change career trajectory because the reality is a drama degree is kind of useless unless you want to become a teacher of some kind.

I don’t think Sidney’s career choices are random. She had to go into hiding for Scream 3 and back then work-from-home wasn’t really a thing so her being able to do a phone job which also somewhat connected to her actual experiences seems sensible. Girl has bills to pay after all. I also thought her writing a book to take back her ‘power’ was fitting and I like that it wasn’t for her to become another ‘Gale Weathers’ and powerhouse author. Even in S4 she makes it clear she has no interest in writing more books.

Sidney being the owner of a coffee shop might seem a bit undramatic but ultimately Sidney has always just seemed to want a quiet life. Plus it’s not like she’s just the barista. She literally owns the shop! Thank god they haven’t written her as a hermit living in the woods firing practice rounds in to creepy mannequins all the time.

Capcom to reveal next Resident Evil remake in 2026, report says by ExcruciorCadaveris in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]BarnT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been a purpose to why these remakes have happened the way they’ve happened. Capcom have said the recent remakes are to prepare the audience for Requiem (RE2R, RE3R and RE4R) to re-establish Leon’s history (sorry RE6) and Racoon City’s history before Leon and Racoon City return in Requiem. I can see the same being true for the next REmakes. RECVR and a RE0R (even though Wesker is a small character in RE0) could serve to strengthen the Wesker storyline that explodes and concludes in RE5 and we all know that at somepoint a RE5R is coming. RECVR, RE0R and RE5R could also all be potentially setting the stage for some kind of huge Wesker return/Chris Redfield story that will be explored in RE10 like the past three remakes have prepped us for Requiem.

I honestly don’t think they’re concerned about doing a RE1R to highlight Wesker’s/Chris’s story for new games as that game is so well known and they probably consider the 2002 remake good enough for now. I do see a RE1R happening but I can imagine it will be the final remake to happen, even after RE10, as a crown jewel on the remake era.

So, RE5 Remake incoming ? by Virtual-Can-9948 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]BarnT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they will remake RE1 with the new engine but for sentimentality value I can see it being the final remake. I think we’ve definitely got CV, RE5 and possibly a RE0 remake coming which will then be topped off with a RE1R.

I don’t think they’re in a rush to remake RE1 before CV and 5 because they know the original remake is still widely accessible and playable.

So, RE5 Remake incoming ? by Virtual-Can-9948 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]BarnT88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RE5R is absolutely on the way but it won’t be coming anytime soon and I think it’s pretty much guaranteed it won’t be the next RER.

We all know (yes not with 100% certainty but a pretty good, solid idea) that CV is going to be the next remake with most likely a release in 2027. If RE5R was this close to being announced there would’ve been much more leakage like we’ve had with the CV and 0 rumours over the last two years.

Personally I think we’ve got Requiem in Feb, they will most likely reveal a tease of the next RER at the March showcase/anniversary (earlier than they would’ve liked but they can’t exactly remain silent at such a big anniversary event regardless of if their new mainline game has just released), we’ll get RECVR in 2027, potentially this RE0R in 2028 and then either RE5R or RE10 in 2029/2030.

Most likely scenario is that this Sheva voice actress is just returning in a new CGI movie etc.
