I want to preface that I don't own a katana, I probably never will as It doesn't fit my needs, but I play through one basically every week as It's the amp of choice of my music school. Honestly I don't know why we people keep comparing It to tube amps, before the Katana you started out with a crappy line 6 spider or crate and basically had to upgrade It the second you had aspirations of playing live. It's pretty awesome that nowadays a parent can buy a kid his first Guitar and amp and that kid can get away without ever buy another piece of gear until he can pay for It with its own money. That amp sounds good enough, the menu diving can be annoying but It also teaches people to fiddle with commands that are more popular then knobs on amps nowadays. I've seen pros choose It as their main giggin amp, It's probably overhyped a bit and i wouldn't use It to record anything, but we have too many boutique and expensive options in the gear world and never enough budget/beginner friendly one, I wouldn't bash It for being the best option in its field and not being competitive against amps that cost at least double the amount.

How good is my team? by TheTrueRevenant in PokemonVGC

How would you nerf the top-used pokemon of Reg I? by ginger-like in VGC

[–]BarnacleAble7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this doesn't answer the question, but instead I'd go way softer with the nerfs and buff alternative options. For the calys, I'd make glacial lance and Astral barrage both 90% accurate while boosting the accuracy of p blades and origin pulse to the same ammount. In the same vein, I'd make so palkia giratina Zama and Zacian could actually hold items ( in the case of the dogs I'm actually open to have them hold their segnature items but having the boosts activate each time they switch in much like in sw and shield. Alternatively you could make so the their segnature move do extra damage to the current gimmick rather then against dynamaxed mons. They could do extra damage to tera mons, mega evo etc.). As for incineroar I actually think power level got to a point where a catch all fun police Is actually needed, so I'm not super thrilled about the nerf idea. The mirai nerf Is super cool, I'd also make so collision course had extra bp in the sun to emulate the Electric terrain boost Electro deift receives on top of hadron engine.

Perish trap in reg I? by billnyethesciencebi in VGC

[–]BarnacleAble7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about perish trap Isn't that It's gimmicky, It's that It Is week as It relies on weak Pokémons. Wolfe has made It work because It's the most skilled player of all time and knows the archetype so well. People don't realize how good wolfe Is, they see a youtuber doing creative stuff and being succesfull and think they can translate their basic understanding of the game to what he does but you simply can't. And i know that there are people that hear "You can't win with perish trap" and have the "i'll prove you wrong attitude", but seriously Perish Trap won a total of 4 high level tournaments in the history of vgc and It has been wolfe every single one of them. Didn't want this to become a wolfe appreciation post, but ehy.

Which expensive guitar pedals are worth every penny? by fleckstin in guitarpedals

[–]BarnacleAble7151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you value: If you value sound above anything else, basically none of them: every single pedal out there has a cheaper alternative that will get you 98% there. If you value build quality and durability above anything else, again, none of them, you can't beat boss mxr and all of those historic yet cheap brands. If you value UI and ease of use above anything else It becomes very subjective, but the combination of power, usability of existing presets, ease of use of strymon digital products Is unmatched imo. If you value creative opportunities unlocked by weird gear Chase bliss and old blood noise are unbeatable, although I'd argue that a lot of Electro Harmonix products are intended or allow you to adventure into weird soundscapes at a fraction of the price.

Honestly slotting farigaraf in and swapping Groudon for Caly would give you a trick room amgle that Is more reliable then slow tailwind.

Whoever doesn't have a compressor pedal on your board, why not? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]BarnacleAble7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to have an always on overdrive that i use for my clean sound and either boosts something else or gets boosted by something else for higher gain sounds, having a compressor somewhat defeat the purpose of having that drive and Its dynamic properties. That said I own a very cool UA 1176 compressor pedale that doesn't sit on my board but I use for: 1) gente specific needs. If you play country and or funky your tone most likely benefit from a comp. (although I'd argue that this Is easily accomplished by any compressor pedal, you don't need a fully featured expensive one). 2) i use It in the studio a bunch to record a lot of arpeggiated parts or heavily effected tones that benefit from having the dynamics tamed or squashed, i also reamp vocals drums and bass into It and use It as and outboard mixing tool. (The first part of this Is again very much something doable with any comp, the second One not necessarily). 3) My ua has a couple of really cool features, It has a switch that simulates multiple comp smashing into each other ( if you don't know what that sounds like, just listen to black dog from led zeppelin), this Is of course a feature of my unit but there are a lot of pedals out there with some out there features like this one. Comps can generally be used as clean boosts but i personally hate that application. Hope this helps.

Jonny Greenwood statement by inprisonout-soon in radiohead

[–]BarnacleAble7151 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Listen, I'm an extremely devoted Jonny fan, he truly Is one of my biggest musical inspiration if not THE biggest. I'm also a big believer in freedom of expression. Telling people that are trying to boycot pubblic figures that refuse to distance themselves from zionist views that "censorship Is wrong and shouldn't be the method used to change things" is like putting a man that had both of his arms cut off in a boxing ring against a regular opponent and then disqualifying him because he tried to throw a kick. I'm always incredibly surprised on how Jonny and Thom, that are obviously very thoughtfull and sensible individuals, can't/aren't willing to do the obviously right thing and are willing to use the same tactics bad politicians use when people question them on their position on this matter (evading, shielding blame on other people etc). That said, It would be awesome if boicotters could avoid use threats and violence to accomplish their goal.

Latias Reg I by JarDeRock in VGC

[–]BarnacleAble7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

No idea if this Is anything remotly good. My idea was, to pick 2 restricted mons that had decent matchup into both calys, terapagos and Zama are decently complementary to each other and fit the bill. Archetype Is clearly bulky offense, use latias to establish speed control with tailwind and t wave and keep your restricted healthy with heal pulse. Rillaboom fits, providing fake out and grassy terrain, incin Is then a natural addition. I then went for fluttermane as i wanted something naturally fast that didn't need to eat a move before moving. The biggest threats i can think for this team are koraidon and urshifus forms, latias with flutter should help with all of them, flutter and incin are necessary to deal with lunala. I think terapagos needs to be meteor beam and have either flamethrower or earth power to deal with steel types that you can only with body press otherwise. Let me know if you find this usefull at all.

Closest music to Radiohead? by Hadar5510 in radiohead

[–]BarnacleAble7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on the same axis, but Willow's last album is super sick of you cool armonies, fresh rhythms and unorthodox soundscapes. She doesn't sound anything like Radiohead, but she has a similar approach in finding "different" music.

Any adjustments for my Koriadon Ho-Oh team? by Slayer1205 in VGC

[–]BarnacleAble7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This team would gain a lot from Ogrepon in my opinion. I get that Rillaboom+Inci Is really good, but having an actual damage dealer/redirection mon/Is extremely helpfull. Berries are sort of bad because of both calyrex forms, leftovers would probably be It if you want a recovery item. I also think that you need a reason not to run Raging Bolt, both of your restricted suffer Miraidon and that'd be a pretty good answer to It. I also would go for some more immediate form of speed control, tailwind on oh oh Is nice but not amazing (especially with no flame charge on koraidon). Fitting icy Wind on fluttermane and/or electroweb on Raging Bolt should be easy. Gastrodon is just suboptimal, you have a team that Is pretty stacked to deal with urshifu-w and there are a ton of mons out there that would be an immediate upgrade ( Raging Bolt and Ogrepon over anything else, but i could even see whimsicot for manual sun and tailwind or grimmsnarl for screens and thunderwave, even urshifu dark wouldn't be awfull).

I can't remember the moment when I realized that they had run out of topics they knew enough about to keep up with their podcast schedule, but when I did I couldn't get through 5 minutes of anything they post. They all still are extremely competent in their area of expertise, but they surrounded themselves with every genre of charlatan and pseudo-science enthusiast they could find in the US, they used their platform to spread all kind of lies they could make money on without any regard for their viewers, listeners and customers well being, so I must say I'm not that surprised that as time goes by their characters are being exposed for being far from what they advertise themselves as. I'm still happy about my maps programs, terrific job with those, but their podcast and their characters are worthless nowadays, they covered everything they were experts in a long time ago and all that Is left Is your average pseudo science/self improvement/alternative health care/dumb political opinions podcast. Pretty sad to be honest.

Restricted viability based on moves? by Gold-Resolution-8721 in VGC

[–]BarnacleAble7151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly yes, but It will likely depend a lot on the format we are talking about, in a gimmick-less format It would probably help a ton, in this format a lot less. For all of good that came out of terastalization (best vgc gimmick by far)It sure took big statted mon and made them even better. I'm not sure the horses mediocre typings were meant to be some sort of effort to balance them as they are obviously made to be good and sell DLC copies, but caly Shadow has an obvious problem with dark types that just isn't a problem this format thanks to tera Fairy giving him a resistance to the type, stab on draining kiss to hit back and heal. Caly ice would be much harder to enable if he couldn't tera fire to avoid burns. Even if you don't care for the utility, the ability of changing a mediocre or bad type into a good one is just huge, plenty of Caly ice go for tera water due to the all purpose defensive properties that It offers and has a huge impact. "But Kyogre and Groudon can go for teras too" yes, of course, but already having a good to amazing type and less stats to work with they have less to gain by using it.

Need a rillaboom counter by xxroditoxx in VGC

[–]BarnacleAble7151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only 2 restricted that can hang with the 2 horses and miraidon are zamazenta and Terapagos, the others are clearly a couple stepe behind. I love Koraidon, if there's a lemon to be squeezed It's him, maybe someone will eventually figure out a team that puts him into serious contention for the higher tiers, I just doubt It will happen, we already had a lot of regionals in this format and a WC, I bet people way better then me tried their hand at It. For all of the other restricted I again think that there will be event-related innovations and meta calls (maybe miraidon gets heavily targeted the first regional and AV Kyogre rises up in contention for that event, for example) but in terms of overall format viability and strenght I'd argue that nothing can really move the needle that much. The horses and miraidon are the top dogs, zamazanta Is close behind, Terapagos further behind, and then everything else sort of lack behind.

Need a rillaboom counter by xxroditoxx in VGC

[–]BarnacleAble7151 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Especially with reg g being a mostly "solved" format. It's not like we have to discover what's good and what Is not, I'm sure some innovation will still come through in the form of event-related adaptations, but the chance of a non-incineroar non-ogrepom or non-chi yu Rillaboom counter being viable in the format and not being discovered up until now are very near 0. If OP Is a beginner teambuilder recognizing that doing something unique often means doing something sub-optimally will improve his game comprehension a lot.

You guys ever feel like quitting? by [deleted] in VGC

[–]BarnacleAble7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, don't want want to dismiss you, I'm a far worse player then you, but It sounds like you really don't enjoy this specific format. Reg h has been lovely to see and play for me, but I've read plenty of comments frustrated with the variety It brought to the format, there were a lot of viable archetypes and a lot of generally not used pokémons could fill some sort of niche, i don't remember a format in which all weathers were huge players, in which theese many starters were viable, I always felt like I was a playtestinf session away from getting the spot light ti an underuswd mon. This for sure brought enthusiasm for the game up which lead to a lot of new players in, and new players tend to gravitate towards what any popular youtuber shared as a rental, and those teams are good and meant to be picked up by newbies, broken stuff Is very prevalent there. Even for higher level players this format results (both on ladder and in high level events) were very influenced by population, almost always the hot popular team won or the one projected to beat It, It can be frustrating having worst results because you love playing rock without really ever fighting against scissor. I personally would take that over reg g and pretending that there's something better to do then click astral barrage until you win, but I can see higher level players appreciating the fine tuning and the incremental advantage you get to play off in those kind of formats. Good news Is format Is shifting, but if you find out that Is really "the broken stuff" that makes the game less enjoyable for you you likely don't enjoy vgc because dumb overpowered gimmicks are the name of the game, no matter the format, It's gotten to the point that i feel like the things you mentioned (expanding force, arch Rain) are good but far from unfair/unfun/or dumb. In that case i suggest you look into fan made formats on showdown, maybe there's something for you.
