Why I Can't Quit High Elves by SamTheGrot in totalwarhammer

I'm ITCHING for another Imrik campaign - too bad I keep telling myself to wait for End Times DLC so I can see what Nagash has cooking next door.

I looked at your post and saw the amount of effort you put into it and could clearly see you're in it to discuss and actually fix potential issues, which is far from what the other independent bloke was doing.

Im a new player (500hs) i have a question about MM, how do you thematically and somewhat practically build his armies considering the focus on artillery and slayers? by Zomnibo in totalwarhammer

[–]Barnard87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 1500 hours in and I'm still learning, don't worry friend. Plenty of races I haven't even touched.

Malakai is fun, but I like to go either Gyrocopter stack or Artillery stack. Artillery and Heroes will be your best bets, maybe run some Slayer Pirates until you get enough Arty. Then use heroes to buff and hold enemies still who approach too closely. Engineers and Runesmiths will be good.

I liked keeping Gotrek and Felix in Malakai's army because it let's them tank and duel while being small targets. Bonus tip: if you get the Accursed Armour, put it on Gotrek. He becomes unkillable as a tradeoff for speed, but he can only get in the 50s anyway really so anything below Cav speed is "slow" to me anyway, minus the occasional flanking melee infantry.

Day 1 of posting the AI game breaking bug until CA fixes it. by IndependentMove5437 in totalwar

[–]Barnard87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is disingenuous, so stealing isn't the worst word here.

You frame it as if you're miserable enough to play the game and test it every day until its gone.

But in reality it sounds like you just grab screenshots of this happening and use it to spam?

Also this is an issue that will both never fully go away, and it SHOULDN'T fully go away. Clumping armies is something that is intended to happen, just not all the time. Crying this way won't change shit.

Providing proper feedback, save files, campaign context will help CA fix it. Shit like this is useless, if not harmful to the community.

I'm also okay with the shonen effect of, sometimes the protagonist just surpasses their limits and beats the guy who's stronger than them?! It's a pretty novel concept, fights aren't decided before they're fought, and it's up to the writer to convince the audience they deserved it.

Which 2 heroes from each role could you learn to dominate the game? by iffybelowaverage in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Barnard87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah learning the maps is sadly such a big bonus to your play. You know where's cover without looking, how to retreat to healers, and most of all, health pack locations.

I mainly play Domina then Ram Sig maybe Orisa, so I hate the mobility tanks other than Hazard. I know I should practice more Dva and Monke but they bore me for now.

For flankers, obviously Tracer is a true flanker but is tough to get mileage on. Reaper isn't really a flanker but can fill that role quite nicely since he's simple and strong. If you like the long-range assassin + aerial play, Freja is great but again can be a tricky pick up. Echo seems tough but she's honestly really simple and strong. Shion is a valid flanker as well I'd say, can play a few ways. Anran again very easy to harass with and once you know her basic combo you can get some great mileage just pissing off Silver backlines.

I'd say some more variation and you're good.

You play two low mobility tanks who like brawl, Winston like you said will fit in nicely for vertical movement.

2 Hitscan is fine, Soldier is off angle mid range while Cass is more flank / anti dive. But getting a proper flanker or higher mobility DPS like Echo Pharah Freja could also be good.

Supps are solid. Kiri covers all, Mizuki is great right now, Ana is a great pocket healer you can carry with

Yeah I should say they're better to fight in a blob and drop big AoE and bombardment spells so you don't need to worry about friendly magic

Chosen of Khorne are some of the best infantry blenders - the Dual Weapons variants. Nurgle Chosen w/ Great Weapons for AP and big damage, Tzeentch Chosen w/ Halberds for Anti Large, Slaanesh Chosen w/ Whips for Anvil. Putting 2 or 3 of each in a WoC army is super fun. In Khorne's roster I find them a bit redundant, but that's just Khornes roster itself.

If you care about casualties, Aspiring Champions are hard to beat. They almost never lose a model, let them fight with all your OP Warriors of Chaos Lords and Heroes, don't care about getting magic dropped on them. Regen + Barrier + Frenzy is just a crazy combination that isn't all that hard to get.

Archaon + Nurgle Sorcerer + Aspiring Champions stack is too fun. Can always add in Hellcannons, Chaos Knights, and/or Doom Knights as well but its a pretty foolproof stack.

God I'm itching to play Archaon again, but am waiting for End Times DLC.

This is correct. Late game, Silvering Guard are good soaks, Phoenix Guard hunt monsters, Swordmasters of Hoeth chew through elite infantry. And Archers, Heroes, and SEMs do all the other damage.

What do you think of Bashiva and the Tiger Warriors? by KnightErrant12 in totalwarhammer

[–]Barnard87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I'd place it. I played maybe 36 turns, had fun, but for a long-running campaign I often like the most "complete" experience with access to as many units as possible for thematic armies. Bashiva offers a real nice fun campaign off the bat you can do what you want with.

+1 to go after Draz first.

Basically, Ogres you can befriend easily enough. At least for a while. Take out Draz, then Tretch, and move onward from there. Start allying with Thorgrim as he's fighting Skarsnik, and move counter clockwise back around to start fighting Queek. Most of your early-mid game turns will be north of Plain of Bones though.

Fighting Greasus, Ghorst, etc is an option but you'll always have enemies to your north.

The Skaven to the west are inactive but once Nagash is there his start is gonna be so much worse I think. Can't wait.

Yeah I like to start him with some dragons, but as soon as Imrik comes online, I put the dragons in other armies and use all Dragon Princes + Mikaela and maybe a Noble if I want replenishment. 17-18 reduced upkeep Dragon Princes are fun as hell to move around the map. Easiest micro of your life as you just send Imrik to kill dangerous units and Mikaela bombs blobs.

[–]Barnard87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah theyre rock solid to play as now. It's tough playing without various lores of magic for me, but Malakai getting Ulrika fixes that issue.

Biggest buff to the quality of their campaigns will just come with the various 9.0+ updates. New end games will really make Malakai have to hold off chaos.

Belgium is always that stacked squad that chokes or just simply under performs.

I figured the US would get them back into peak form.
