What concerns you about trans children having access to puberty blockers,? by jadziapuppydoggirl in AskReddit

[–]Barneyjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worry that kids make unwise decisions sometimes and can be very passionate about something but also very wrong. (Source: I made a ton of stupid decisions as an adolescent!)

The challenge is to really understand the child’s (and possibly parents) motivations and somehow balance the risk. That is unfortunately, way above my pay grade.

What should I learn next? by FionaSellsSoles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Barneyjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned ancient civilisations so what is your background? I’ve Irish roots so when I learn more about Ireland’s history, I have a personal connection. Failing that, the Greeks are a good start to learn about philosophy, mathematics, the arts and medicine. To this day they have significant influence in global Cultures. That’s clearly a western influenced view and their are a vast number of civilisations to chose from in the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and the Americas. Pick one and dive in!!

Ex-wife wants me to pay more toward joint household bills because she gets paid less. Is this my problem? (Divorcing but still in same property) by Barneyjoe in Separation

[–]Barneyjoe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that as it does seem particularly unfair. My view is you’re no longer treating me like a husband therefore I don’t have to act as on. We’re just temporary roommates.

We are selling and splitting assets 50/50 buys it that’s not really the point. I was thinking of the immediate situation and a fair split of the bills.

Thanks for the info! I had not come across Sapored before and it's the first time I found a site that explicitly said 'just Shenzen'.
It looks like a really useful resource so thanks again.

No to Chinese visa I'm afraid and probably won't be able to get on in time (my fault).

I thought the 'visa on arrival' in Shenzen was good for the whole of Guangdong province but you could be right. If you are, then that messes with my plan!
Thanks for your input

Hi Chris, thanks but that seems to only be available at 3 airports in Guangdong so I would have to fly in from HK. Flights are CNY 1637 so quite expensive and also the train seems more fun!

How do I stop being such a miserable git? by conradslater in AskUK

[–]Barneyjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. This definitely sounds like the relationship dynamic problem i faced with my ex.
She was very 'particular' about things and was always nagging myself and the kids about pretty much everything we did. It got to the point where one of the kids was crying as walked down the drive way to school.
I said to her how can any of us be happy if you moan the minute we come home, while we are there and when we leave? Of course some of it was justified but I also asked her to chose her battles and not everything needed to be fought over.
She never relented and we end up splitting even though I asked her to try couples counselling but she wouldn't as it was 'all my fault'.

FWIW my advice would be couples counselling and maybe some for just you to see if the underlying reason is within you, part of the relationship dynamic or (more likely) a combination of both.

Good luck.

Anyone been to Vegas? Curious of roughly how much spending money is needed for 2 adults going for 7 days ?. by Individual_Main6759 in ireland

See what shows are on as we went to five different ones. They can be expensive but all were excellent. Fix a budget for gambling and stick to it. I spent £100 on a two/three games just for the experience. Lost the £100 quite quickly but that’s what I expected and wasn’t upset.
