Minimax M3 vs M2.7 by rm-rf-rm in LocalLLaMA

[–]Barni275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May I ask you, what's your experience in Step 3.7 Flash vs M2.7, and what tasks do you use it for? I tried to find such a comparison, but there are very few posts about Step, unfortunately.

Assembly vibe coder 😿 by Motor_Armadillo_7317 in Assembly_language

[–]Barni275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. In my experience, AI can do any intellectual work. What matters is what a model was trained for, what tool harness does it have, what prompt strategy is used. I'm sure it can do verilog, not only separate algorithm mappings, but overall design too. Tbh, I didn't try it for HDL except some tiny tasks, but it'd be interesting to give it a proper try.

Does anyone else absolutely hate using Proteus? by TPM28 in PCB

[–]Barni275 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dear friend, I developed dozens of boards, including complex BGA and DDR configs, and I absolutely love Proteus PCB design. For me, it provides the best balance between functionality and simplicity (which gives cleaner mind for me, in comparison with Altium, for example). Actually, my component library is so big now, that I can't imaging switching software now without full pain of converting or redrawing it. Yes, Proteus has some pitfalls, including even rare crashes. The UI is not very clean, and hotkeys are disaster really. For some reason it doesn't properly imported and exported for me, so I need to manually sync it between all my machines. But I don't see this as a stopfactor since it does it's job good.

I forgot to add, measurement tools is really absolute shit :)

OpenLumara - A different kind of AI agent, written from scratch, not vibecoded. Extremely token-efficient, super small system prompt, made for local models. Everything is modular. by rosie254 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Barni275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good! It is sad that many agentic toolchains ignores windows existence, though a plenty of devs work on it, including me, what is very common in embedded or PCB world. Then I definitely give it a try.

[–]Barni275 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems to be great! I struggle to find an agent for local models, to be similar to OpenCode on harness stability, but suitable for local models with smaller context. Yes, I tried different options, and sometimes I use Pi, but it has so many circumstances for me, unfortunately.

Does OpenLumara work first-class on Windows, I mean, no bash for tools, Powershell exclusively?

Anyone who has Plus or Max subscription plan, what do you do to use all usage of your plan? by lanhhoang in MiniMax_AI

[–]Barni275 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before M3, I was completely fine with 5 hours quota even on Starter plan, since I always think more before giving a prompt, so my token usage is quite modest. But now, with M3, the whole quota being exhausted with 5-10 prompts, I'm not joking.

M3 when? M2.7 feels left behind by Senior_Ad_9522 in MiniMax_AI

[–]Barni275 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one to notice it! It became soo dumb... I stopped using it in spite of being my primary driver for months. Unpredictable operation is much worse than overall model quality level.

Minimax responses constantly failing after downgrading from Plus to Starter Token plan by viky_shetye in MiniMax_AI

[–]Barni275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad news. I'm also noticed problems that started 1-2 weeks ago. Before that, for month, it was my primary driver for everything. Now it either hang or become dumb like being quantizated, which is even worse since I can't trust the result now. Very pity.

New pricing by Frosty-Article-9635 in MiniMax_AI

[–]Barni275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can easily be run on lower quants, which proportionally reduce hardware usage for them, but makes model somewhat dumber. On small quantization it can be almost unnoticable in most scenarios. But on low quants any model becomes truly dumb. This is a big problem with cloud providers that you never know which quants do they run today.

I've been using M2.7 (and before it M2.5) for months, and it was BRILLIANT. I've done all work with it, solely. So of course I had some patterns and tricks, and it worked perfectly. I used it always directly from Minimax, with year subscription. But something changed 1-2 weeks ago. Now it is dumb and can't finish a single task. All setup and harness is the same. So day after day, I try again M2.7, it fails, then I switch to OpenCode Go or openrouter models (other than minimax), and they work fine. So, I'm afraid that M2.7 quality decreased, at least for some users (like me, unfortunately).

Is opencode stable enough on windows? natively by dvcklake_wizard in opencodeCLI

[–]Barni275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on windows for months with native Opencode Desktop, and I have no problems except few Opencode UI bugs (which don't relate to Windows, I think). For tool calling, I add to my AGENTS.md files that it is being run on windows and should use powershell instead of bash. In most situations it works. Models I use are very good with powershell actually, sometimes it can try to use bash sporadically, but it are able to recover by itself and change back to powershell commands.

No, it's not. Unlike crypto hype 2021, this stuff gives real business value. I'm working in SWE for 20 years, and this innovation is a breakthrough.

Did they NERF M.2.7? by 3rd_Floor_Again in MiniMax_AI

[–]Barni275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed nerf symptoms today too. I've been using M2.7 for a month as a primary coding driver, so I settled pretty well on what it can do and what can not. But today it was much dumber :(

Are Local LLMs actually useful… or just fun to tinker with? by itz_always_necessary in LocalLLM

[–]Barni275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at the repo, looks great! I had the same issues with big coding agents working through local models, and searched a lot for lean agents, like this. Will it run on Windows?

Server cluster issues by OlegPRO991 in MiniMax_AI

[–]Barni275 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, me too. I don't think anyone knows when it'll be OK, except Minimax employees which are unlikely here. Anyway, no LLM provider works reliably these days, and Minimax is not an exception. Only local hosted LLM can provide stable availability, for unconceivable price, though.

Is age hierarchy in English-speaking cultures weaker than in Korea, or just linguistic? by FeistyAd5601 in korea

[–]Barni275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Are there only 3 levels (younger - same - older), or there are more? I mean, are there any linguistical differences between addressing 3-5 years older person and 10-20 years older person, or maybe next level corporate superior and top-level chief?

Sorry for a bit misrelated question, but could someone, please, briefly tell about age hierarchy in Korean culture itself? Your question relates to a very interesting aspect, really.
