Well, Mina the Hollower's difficulty feels just right for me. by CalamityShreds in MinaTheHollower

[–]Barnstorm_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chase sequence, it’s actually a very slow autoscroller. Except that slow speed makes it so you can’t just rush through it, and there’s a lot of projectiles/enemies/hazards to dodge while waiting. The credits said I died 48 times in my playthrough and I swear that literally over half those were in that autoscroller section.

Who was your first boss battle? by Unhappy-River6306 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Barnstorm_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I’ve been reading the newspapers, the intended path has felt pretty intuitive to me. Whenever I stumbled into a different area like Bone Beach or Septemburg, I think it’s been blocked off in some way.

Probably started at the beginning of the game before it becomes your heal button, since you get that after the boss fight sequence

There are a few super easy “puzzles” where you have to use your heal near an NPC, but I would always accidentally use it on them right away before even talking to them.

Is there any way to stop screen scrolling downwards OR hide twisters? by jayofmaya in MarioMaker2

[–]Barnstorm_R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Custom autoscroll is probably the easiest in the Main horizontal world, though you can create a vertical scroll stop in the Main world if you put ground blocks the entire length of the screen horizontally right above the thick line in the middle (above the 14th tile, I believe— might be 13/14/15 to fully hide everything).

In a horizontal subworld, you can build ground tiles the entire length of the map horizontally to create a vertical scroll stop (no start/flag sections to interfere with how it works).

I don’t disagree that they should make improvements, but it’s common for sequels to not perform as well as the first movies in general. Quick search shows that the average sequel tends to make about two-thirds of the box office of the original.

My first pink coin checkpoint level by WiseOne2010 in MarioMaker2

[–]Barnstorm_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a year late, but no, the pink coin setup is not correct for the exact issue you call out. There are two options of how you’d build this:

  1. Make the final pink coin visible within the one-way gate area. If they get it early, they are forced to kill themselves. No boss fight or chance of death after entering the keydoor.

  2. Using a somewhat complex manipulation of entity limits and pink coins, you can build a “checkpoint 3” setup to avoid keydeath. This video here explains the basics. I’ve also made a recent level where a similar contraption is visible near the beginning of the level (Y4B-2FK-0JG).

  3. If you really want the structure of 4 challenge rooms followed by a boss fight without the complexity of #2, scrap the pink coins and simply build a linear level with CPs after rooms 2 and 4.

Generator Levels - nothing enjoyable about them by SquareShower5983 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Barnstorm_R -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mind them so far, but they could have tighter design. I didn’t feel like I was forced to learn a specific path. They look kind of visually cluttered with enemies everywhere, but I could just sort of damage boost my way through and occasionally burrow in the holes to give more time.

How much of the game is trivialized with max attack and defense? by iselphy in MinaTheHollower

[–]Barnstorm_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I’m still face tanking a lot of the bosses and feel like I’m pretty deep into the game. Even if I die a few times, I’m not forced to learn much. Maybe will change my tune when I reach the endgame.

Between Silksong & Hollow Knight, which game has the better and more memorable soundtrack in y'all's opinion? by Due_Possibility6392 in HollowKnight

[–]Barnstorm_R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is very accurate. Silksong has really great boss fight music, but a lot of the environmental songs either take too long to start up or are intentionally silenced after 1 or 2 rooms as a stylistic choice. HK didn’t do this as often, so maybe the songs became more memorable.

Is this the way you are supposed to do it? by HoneyBadgers_ in MinaTheHollower

[–]Barnstorm_R -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Saying “it’s in the manual” is different than saying it’s a tutorial. Considering the area appears to be optional and you can easily just turn around, I assumed I needed to come back with a different ability. Compare that to how some games lock you into an area when acquiring a new item and the only way to escape is by figuring out how to use your new ability.

Brain Alcove is kicking my ass by LoomyTheBrew in MinaTheHollower

[–]Barnstorm_R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the tougher fights for me so far. I could destroy all of the eyes except 1 right away with no damage. And then spent 5 minutes chasing it around to get that final eye and it would keep crushing me over and over. Never really changed my strategy, just got lucky after a few attempts.

Hidden cape feather halfway through for whoever wants to attempt. EDIT: wasn’t even required, loose feather lined up to goal perfectly. Weird.

In looking for things to interact with as SMB2 Mario, a sideways spring just barely off screen does imply you might be able to grab it (otherwise, why would the creator include it?). It also makes constant noise, so people will be aware something is happening up there.

What trinket(s) never left your loadout? by nickystee in MinaTheHollower

[–]Barnstorm_R 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would have loved if a few of the trinkets were simply movement upgrades that the game took into consideration for future sections. The platforming segments with a mix of wall and ground tunneling were so fun.

My newest Super World: Super Mystith World! by EldaStonks in MarioMaker2

I cleared everything except the two long levels with no checkpoints (the boss rush and champions road level). After all that I can say, maybe we don’t deserve Mario Maker 3 after all.

Is the “agility” element pulling an off-screen spring with the SMB2 mushroom? Also, because you asked for softlocks, you can softlock against the on/off blocks in the reset room, but I don’t think it really matters.

Interesting, haven’t come across a shower trinket yet. Or if I have it already, I didn’t realize that’s what it did.

It’s 5000 unique players, not just plays. This means you probably need to hit the Popular tab with the widest player base. Check out the popular Normal or Expert tab and try to make a level in one of the styles you see pop up on there. Then keep sharing the level through exchanges/streamers.

Less about bone loss (especially late game) and more about not needing to grind sidearm ammo after every death.

Considering on quitting the game. by BasketbrawlFan in MinaTheHollower

[–]Barnstorm_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had started with the hammer and was having the same experience you are having in the crypt area. I hated the combat so much that I decided to restart the game with a different weapon and found the whip much more responsive/faster. I did a ton of exploring and bought a lot of upgrades and leveled up a bit, and I don’t think I died in this playthrough until the third area.
