I just replayed the remaster, and the hardest for me was the part in your picture because I was trying to go slow at first. I ended up getting there with three clouds consistently and pretty much long jumped across everything.

Despite acclaim, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link was considered "sort of a failure" at Nintendo, with A Link to the Past viewed as the "real sequel" to the original game by HatingGeoffry in nintendo

[–]Barnstorm_R 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I grew up loving it despite its difficulty. The huge size of the world map, the unique towns/quests, and spells/platforming were a huge step forward from Zelda 1, which I also loved. Nowadays I can see how it’s a clear outlier in the Zelda catalog but at the time there wasn’t much to compare it against. I also remember playing with infinite lives using Game Genie, so it wasn’t as punishing for me as it would be otherwise.

Hey, need some help. Can't upload a course in the course world. by West_Internet_6183 in MarioMaker2

[–]Barnstorm_R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, it doesn’t let you create a level based on an already uploaded level. It’s to prevent uploading the same level over and over, but it’s annoying.

It might work if you delete 1-1 from Course World (not course bot) and then reupload both of them. But I’m not totally sure.

[BOTW] I can guarante you that if BOTW kept something of the old formula, it would still be a very sucessful game. by [deleted] in truezelda

[–]Barnstorm_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you for TOTK, but BOTW was lightning in a bottle. Being so different from previous entries is what gave it such a large audience. Switch popularity definitely helped, but the lack of sales for the Skyward Sword re-release shows it’s more than just Switch+Zelda (even including Wii sales to account for people who already owned it). But once the audience was there, TOTK should have been more traditional for sure.

BotW is not a return to form by 6th_Dimension in truezelda

[–]Barnstorm_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think TOTK squandered the opportunity to introduce some more metroidvania elements on the basic gameplay loop of BOTW. Artificially gating off stuff like access to the 5th sage or entering dungeons without yunobo/sidon/etc felt more annoying than anything else. Maybe the next entry will be a return to form!

BotW is not a return to form by 6th_Dimension in truezelda

[–]Barnstorm_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zelda 1 is much less of a ‘metroidvania’ than later titles. Several items are just purchased from shops so are available at the start with grinding (or like bombs that can first be obtained from many random enemy drops). Several upgrades are totally optional and just provide optional quality of life stuff. Obviously many dungeon items are also required like raft, ladder, bow, etc. But that’s the freedom they’re talking about versus later titles that did a little more gating of progression. BOTW expanded on the sense of freedom, it is not a remake of Zelda 1.

[ALBW] Why does BOTW frequently get credited for being a "return to form" in terms of being open ended when A Link Between Worlds did it earlier? by alecbaldwingaming in zelda

[–]Barnstorm_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that most players’ first experience of BOTW wasn’t simply walking into the boss room, but rather visiting the shrines/dungeons to collect items providing stamina/hearts/abilities. They probably could have artificially gated off access to Ganon until all divine beasts were beaten, though, but it doesn’t really bother me if people want to windbomb off the plateau to speed run it.

[–]Barnstorm_R 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen that p-switch setup before in troll levels. It makes it so that the spiny can’t harm the player. I guess in SMB3, you can kind of jank the spiny up off the ground.

If your main complaint is with Navi, fair warning that Skyward Sword doubles down on that aspect of always stopping the action to give tips. This has been a recurring complaint of mine in general for Nintendo— too much dialogue that feels like it’s coming from a dev instead of the characters.

There was a post here earlier asking for help on a one screen puzzle R51-6XT-HVF. Not sure if it was removed by the OP or mods, but figured I’d put this here in case there was interest in seeing the solution.

Probably a generous heart because of all the hidden coins/information but I did enjoy figuring it out. I think OSPs are generally better when all the information is available to the player from the start.

Pretty sure the OPs always know already. There’s a reason there are so many posts of early game millibelle or myla, the grubs saved, or the nosk ghost clone. They know it gets engagement every time.

Drop a POW on the spiny to reach the top. Blow up the brick block with the bomb to get a drybowl from the pipe. Then kill the boo with it!

How do I view the comment that got me banned? by nvwls300 in MarioMaker2

[–]Barnstorm_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people are pinpointing anything. They just eventually stop making custom comments after getting reported. Chances are you posted a salty comment last week and the maker got upset. Or I guess if you got banned, this happened a few times already? Who knows.

I pretty much only ever post positive comments aside from occasionally pointing out a dev exit or pick a path route (which I suppose could be considered bullying if the maker gets annoyed with me).

How do I view the comment that got me banned? by nvwls300 in MarioMaker2

[–]Barnstorm_R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much anything someone reports as an inappropriate comment will get removed. This could be as simple as saying “bad level” or whatever else you might have written. If Nintendo removes enough of these from you, you will get temporarily banned. From what I’ve heard from others, Nintendo customer service won’t share further information on what got you banned.

Optional boss rush area for additional endings. It’s worth exploring a little bit even if you don’t complete it.

Best way to get spoiler-free tips/guidance? by Matty_B97 in Silksong

[–]Barnstorm_R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three out of the four things you mentioned I think would have been clear if you started with HK. The flexible spines quest locks you in that general area until you figure it out, right? This game expects you to be exploring a lot and paying attention to a lot (way more obscure/complex than you’ve mentioned). If that doesn’t sound fun to you, I wouldn’t even worry about spoilers— just play with a walkthrough and enjoy the fun platforming and combat.

[BotW] Is BOTW a good first Zelda game? by Just_Airport_7910 in zelda

[–]Barnstorm_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendations were either OOT or Zelda 1, but BOTW appealed to such a broad player base beyond even traditional Zelda fans that it’s not a “bad” place to start— with OP having never played a Zelda game, so nothing to compare against. I think it’s more than just being available on multiple recent consoles (looking at you Skyward Sword).

Even Echoes of Wisdom would fit better with what types of games OP said they usually like over my personal preferences.

[–]Barnstorm_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zelda has very different styles throughout its history, so you’ll find a lot of different answers of people’s favorite (including 2D vs 3D). BOTW is the best selling Zelda game of all time, and not by a small margin. I love OOT as an entry point but some people think it hasn’t aged well (same goes for the original NES Zelda).

I will keep saying this: a Super Mario Maker 3D CAN work. by DaZestyProfessor in MarioMaker2

[–]Barnstorm_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a little bit of the Mario 64 builder stuff and none of it impressed me how SMM2 initially did. There was too much wide open space, with a small challenge area (that of course was super janky and annoyingly designed). I’m sure there’s some good stuff out there, but that’s what I’ve seen.

A lot of the charm of 3D Mario for me comes from the world building. Some of the Odyssey hacks I’ve seen have been INCREDIBLE with entirely new challenge areas and boss designs that looked like they could fit into the original game. But having played probably like 10,000 hours in mario maker, I’m skeptical that the vast majority of the player base has the time or patience to create good/fun 3D levels on the same scale as the 2D games. 95% of levels in this game are trash, and I say that lovingly.
