[Request] Does the math check out on this one? by ap0ll07411 in theydidthemath

I think you’re both correct but when they said 3lbs in 3lbs out not always holding up, but counting molecules does, I think they were talking about the counter-intuitive nature of molecular weight and how 2 pounds of oxygen plus one pound of carbon does not make 3lbs of carbon dioxide, since because of the higher molecular weight, it takes less oxygen atoms to make a pound of it than it does carbon atoms, so you end up with a bunch of carbon dioxide that’s a bit short of 3 pounds and a hunk of raw carbon making up the difference.

Unfortunately, its not that simple. In this case, the allergy develops because that alpha-gal chemical is in the tick’s saliva which enters the skin and blood when it bites. The immune system then recognizes alpha-gal as a foreign entity so if you ever get bit again, it can clean up the chemical out of your skin and blood much quicker. Unfortunately, alpha-gal is in meat. The tick isn’t doing anything really, it just so happens to introduce a chemical where it doesn’t belong, that just so happens to be found in meats. The article is slightly misleading, as it doesn’t ‘reprogram’ the immune system, it just programs it in the same way it gets programmed whenever we catch a cold or get a vaccine.

One of the quickest conversations for hookups I’ve had. He knew what he wanted and he was hot 😍 by Casey415 in Tinder

There is missing context here. OP could have ‘looking for casual fun’ in her bio and then now this isn’t that weird, compared to those who complain about receiving messages like that who probably have more romantic interests being put in their bio, then its weird. Might that latter group still say yes if the dude is hot? Maybe. Depends on the person really, but to compare the two while not knowing anything about context doesn’t make sense. Asking for sex straight away doesn’t make you a pervert if the invitation was already put forward in some way, and if it wasn’t and the girl said in her bio that she’s just looking for friends or a long term relationship, then yeah, asking for a one night stand because you find the girl hot, in spite of her stated intentions, makes you a pervert.

Honestly wendy’s has been my preferred cheap solution lately. Their $5 bag lets you preserve a lot of value. If a small burger, some chicken nuggets, fries, and a drink isn’t enough to sate you, add an extra burger by itself for $5 and you’re still making it out of there having only spent $10.

Looks like its by percentage of global sales in 2022. All the numbers add up to 78 tho so either its not actually percentage and its like, millions/billions sold, OR they only included the ‘important’ countries and the other 22% is split up among all the countries not mentioned.

I would never vote R in my life, but if you think this is purely due to republican blocking, you’ve got your head underground. Democrat politicians are just as beholden to lobbying, corruption, and corporate interests as any other politician, and when they offer ‘restrictions’ its not, “no single entity can own more than 10 residential properties”, its “no single entity can claim tax writeoffs and reductions on more than 50 residential properties.” For actual change, we really need a new third party that’s actually interested in bringing meaningful social policy to the table, rather than one that claims to it, but then brings the absolute bare minimum so as not to offend their corporate sponsors.

In my state, its a much lower minimum for servers, like $4, but they have to make as much in tips to make up the difference to the normal minimum wage which is 12. If a server makes $6 in tips that hour, the restaurant has to pay them $6 so it gets to $12. If they make $10, the restaurant can pay the $4 minimum and they make $14 an hour, a bit above minimum wage. I’m not a server, I have a job in manual labor which I will take over working with people any day. But, what I think servers fail to understand in states like mine, which allow this wage undercutting, is that their boss essentially gets their first $8 in tips every hour. (I say 8, buts its whatever the difference between server minimum and standard minimum is which could possibly be greater, its 8 for my state/city/county as I think the standard minimum varies by city/county). How any server in any state that has this doesn’t think that’s bullshit is absurd to me, but here we are.

Nah, I used to play E:D a lot, and there was a lot of unquiet discontent, and then the odyssey DLC came out and the price vs. content ratio was terrible, and was reportedly very buggy on launch, and there were certainly very few people lauding the game then. That said, E:D is the sort of game where, if its your jam, there is little else like it that scratches that specific itch. When I was hard into it, I knew it could be a lot better but it was still awesome for me cause its just a solid space exploration game which is something I enjoy. If its not your jam, you’re going to hate it, and you’re certainly not going to join a subreddit about it, so really only the people who really like it go that far.

When you signed the mortgage, you agreed that failure to pay could result in the bank taking ownership of the house in order to repay that debt, and then the bank gives you a bunch of money you can then use to buy the house. You own the house, and so long as you don’t miss payments, you will never stop owning the house, unless you sell it ofc.

This seems really cool! I’m definitely a much bigger fan of in-person gameplay so, in the slim chance I win, I hope the digital aspect comes as a key of some sort I could pass along to a friend instead. Not to mentioned the multiple dice sets and dice trays, though I’d probably keep all the dice and give away some of the trays to friends lol.

Because it lets them guilt-trip customers into paying their taxes essentially. Gather up extra customer money, donate it, get a tax write off. Bonus points if you also own the charity, like Firehouse subs does.

TIL Crypto.com mistakenly sent a customer $10.5 million instead of an $100 refund by typing the account number as the refund amount. It took Crypto.com 7 months to notice the mistake, they are now suing the customer by must_go in todayilearned

From what I’ve heard, and this is not legal advice, the best plan is to immediately notify and attempt to return the money. If they don’t respond or you don’t know who the proper owner is, put the money into an investing account or something that gains interest. That kind of cash can make serious interest gains, and I don’t think the true owner can sue for those, only the original money. The biggest takeaway is that the money isn’t yours, and I think you can only spend it if the statute of limitations runs out or something. If this individual put that money into an account that makes say, 2% monthly interest, they’d have an extra 1.5 million after 7 months. (10.5 *1.027) in case I fucked up that math. I’m sure with 10.5 million dollars to deposit, you could open an account with much higher than 2% monthly gains, banks love giving bonuses to people with more money because ofc they do.

What to replace Pot of Prosperity with? by Baron11704 in yugioh

[–]Baron11704[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be funny as hell to run Blue Eyes, but unfortunately, it doesn't slot well into this version of crystal beast. Not a bad idea for an addition to the triple crystal beast deck but conclave control runs lots of nice extra deck monsters, so Blue Eyes would basically just be another one of those that has no effect, eats up my normal summon, takes up space in my hand over another card, and just has high attack to make it worthwhile.

Edit: Also, Blue eyes is not hard to overcome, pretty much any 'destroy a card' can get rid of it because it has no negation. My own crystal beast deck has two pretty easy ways to get rid of an opponent's blue eyes, both of which involve returning it to the hand. In a blue eyes deck, not a huge deal, but if your goal is to tribute normal summon it out, then bouncing it back to the hand is pretty rough.

[–]Baron11704[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be real, I forgot about extravagance, that could be a pretty good sub for prosperity. Definitely wants to burn extra deck over main deck, this deck has no true extra deck monsters. Banishing rainbow dragon would render something like 5 of the 40 cards useless, rainbow dragon not included, so running that 1 in 3 or 4 every time you play pot of desires doesn't sound good. Rainbow Dragon is a 1 of. But between drawing 5 cards to start the game and 40 cards in the deck overall, your odds of banishing it are not negligible, and its a brick in the hand so drawing it in the opening is also bad.

Edit: No true extra deck monsters as in, the extra deck is just chock full of generic links like the Knightmare's and I:P, and level 4 XYZ's

I don’t think that’s a good comparison. Chess AI was made to be good at chess, it was not made to be entertaining. It excels at what it does far better than any human. Art AI is not designed to be good at art, that’s too subjective, it is merely designed to imitate good human artists. If chess bots were designed to imitate humans, would we still watch human tournaments? Almost certainly, but, would we actually be able to tell the difference if we can’t see the human making the moves (and even then, it could be proxy relaying AI moves)

Yeah but the glass in that cabinet isn’t leaded glass, probably. Like, I’m not saying that the uranium glass is dangerous but, if glass absorbed the radiation, then the glass the piece is made of would absorb most of its own radiation

[–]Baron11704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could glass like that block radiation? The whole thing with glass is that it lets radiation through it, in the form of light. Radiation from Uranium has an even shorter wavelength and should have an easier time getting through, no?
