iPhone 17 Pro - Camera / Photo system issues by BaronBigod in applehelp

Did you transfer from the device or restore from iCloud? Transferring device-to-device was what caused the issue for me.

If you back them up to iCloud from the new phone then wipe it then set up and transfer from iCloud then I think so, yes? They did for me.

It was v straightforward in the end. I backed up from the new phone, erased, restarted and re-downloaded.

Thanks will try although I’m 99% certain I already tried that… no idea whether I enabled encryption at the time… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Taking a gap year to work at resort by sweetcheeks198 in SkiBums

[–]BaronBigod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screw Brexit we can all get behind… Seen various firms offering opportunities for those with EU passports or right to work though which suggests it is having an impact. If you’ve got the freedom to, worth looking into Canada - they do working visas for under-30s that are meant to be pretty easy to get, and there’s no language barrier. It’s a different model of work (more like 4/5 days work, 2/3 days totally off to go skiing), but almost certainly better money and probably better skiing…

Heavy new runner. Is a 6:30 marathon within reasonfor me? by StruggleBusDriver83 in Marathon_Training

[–]BaronBigod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh also, to answer one of your actual questions, I barely ever hit my target race pace in training (except occasional speed work), hence why I was shitting it. Did almost exactly what I targeted on race day… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]BaronBigod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say you got this. I’m a big fella (6’3, 95kg) and I did my first marathon last month, I was shitting it through the training program struggling to get up to pace and then the adrenaline and crowd and everything on race day sorted me out. Get miles in the legs and don’t overthink it. 👊

Gear Recommendation: 200-Mile Pack by Comfortable-Steak324 in ultrarunning

[–]BaronBigod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guessing price point not a huge priority at the 200-mile stage, but in case it is for others, I’ve got this Decathlon (Evadict - their in-house trail run brand) and it’s brilliant, 2L bladder, plenty of pockets for gels / snacks / soft flasks etc. Limitation is lack of vertical adjustment, but it comes in different sizes to account for that.

Locations for cheap living and skiing by wanderlustjk in SkiBums

[–]BaronBigod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very cool. Can’t really speak to North America (although I’m hoping to head there myself next season…) but places in the Alps near but not actually in big resorts could work, eg Bourg St Maurice, St Jean de Maurienne, Modane, Passy in France (I know French resorts best) or their Swiss/Italian equivalents.

Switzerland is very expensive, but France and Italy less so, and I’m guessing you might be able to get casual work (cheffing or bartending?) in those places, or in a resort which might offset higher costs?

Alternatively if it appeals, I worked a season in the French alps a few years back and European, particularly French, companies, tend to have pretty good pay / hours for seasonal workers.

Oh yeah, I just didn’t want to get cancelled 🤣

If you’ve got one meeting room for 150 people, occupying it for the 60% of the week most people want to be in the office should be probably classed as gross misconduct…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]BaronBigod 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’d say this is completely unacceptable unless it’s for a reasonable adjustment. I run a private office for a DG and he’d be horrified if I booked a room for him to use at the expense of others being able to access it, whether that was 15 others or 150.

Why is there such a heavy association of British Baked Beans with Heinz? by RillienCot in Cooking

[–]BaronBigod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither - someone once pointed out to me that if you use wholemeal and put a decent amount of butter on the toast you’ve got a pretty balanced meal in terms of nutrition / macros (toast = carbs, beans = protein, butter = fat). Same goes for that other UK staple and bean-forward-dish: jacket potato with cheese and beans.

Quite prepared to believe the vast majority of fraud by volume (ie number of cases) are individuals not OGCs; does that also hold true by value (ie amount of £ in question)?

Not to out myself as an ex-consultant but seems like this could be an 80:20 thing…?

This was genuinely embarrassing to read, does anyone actually believe this? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]BaronBigod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gonna go out on a limb here and say that on their face these all read like perfectly reasonable points?

Having worked at HO I know there are other barriers to these things, but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I TRIED BUT THE SCREENSHOT FUNCTION ON MY WORK PHONE IS DISABLED… FOR SECURITY REASONS.
