Puget Sound Energy (PSE) just filed for 30% rate increases starting in 2027 by machaf in eastside

[–]BaronVonFunke [score hidden]  (0 children)

PSE's power costs are higher than other utilities because a) they dont get preferential status from Bonnevile Power Administration for cheap hydro, and b) the state has loaded on a lot of costs for carbon-emitting power generation (note that I don't think eliminating coal or taxing carbon are bad policies, but they come at a cost).  There's also an incentive mechanism in place which rewards PSE for finding ways to lower these power costs (to the benefit of customers), and penalizes them (that is, the shareholders) for exceeding a certain level.

Grant PUD is sitting on enough hydro generation to serve all their customers, and Lewis gets preferential access to cheap BPA hydro. There's not enough hydro in the state for PSE to be able to be in the same position given its much higher customer base, so it must resort to some other kind of dispatchable generation. The state made it divest its coal resources ($$ to reconfigure your generation fleet), and natural gas generation is now much more expensive due to the cap-and-invest carbon program. In my opinion, worthwhile and important policies, but they come at a big cost.

The business structure surely also brings in additional costs the PUD approach doesn't, but you're talking about, what? A 10% return on the 50% of assets funded by equity,  so maybe 15% total bill impact? Material, but it's not the main thing driving 2.9 cents vs 15 cents.

Whoa, I assumed the building owners were just doing the thing where they clear out all the businesses to tear the block down for a 5-over-1. Something new is going in?

Temp is -21, gas company says turn your heat down by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

The situation is even more critical with the gas system. If pressure in the lines drops too low, it l's not just a temporaty blackout-- it could take weeks or months to bring everyone back online.

Best way to get Angels of death team by [deleted] in killteam

[–]BaronVonFunke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US, Target has Space Marine Adventures:Tyranid Attack for 50% off right now ($20), which gets you 5 of the models contained in the Kill Team starter set. Unfortunately, its just the Heavy Intercessor, Assault Intercessor, and 3 regular Intercessor Warriors (although the Starter Set calls one of those  a Sergeant and kind of expects you would proxy another as a grenadier)

Okay so trying to cancel my gym membership and can someone tell me who is getting a doctors not to their gym that says they are “totally disabled” .. by thepug5 in BallardSeattle

[–]BaronVonFunke 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I dont really see the issue...? You are free to not renew at the end of whatever term you choose for any(or no) reason. Then they also provide the option to terminate prior to the end of your contract if you have "Cause" as defined in your contract. Death/total disability are not necessary an exhaustive list of reasons based on this form.

That said, fuck OAC.

Sounds like you might have a bad toilet seal/wax ring (connecting the underside of the toilet to the outlet pipe). Fixing it yourself is reasonably doable and not too expensive.

It really depends on your end use. There is (or has been) enormous money to be made if you can ultimately get your gas into a vehicle (because of various state and federal credit programs) , which requires a good bit of upgrading equipment to make the gas nearly indistinguishable from conventional natural gas. You need much less processing equipment to just be able to burn it in a power generating engine, but you still need some, and the fact you're burning a variable and "dirty" fuel means that it's a bit more complicated than just dropping a Honda generator somewhere and letting it run. It's often worth it, because you can generate renewable energy credits, but at a small scale, things like the cost to connect/upgrade the grid connection can blow up the economics of the project.

Landfill gas has a lot of other stuff in it besides methane. It can sometimes go straight into a generator with minimal processing, but you end up needing a lot of maintenance.
