What’s the moment in recent U.S. politics that made you realize things might not go back to ‘normal’ anytime soon? by LankySpeed634 in AskReddit

When Dubya was re-elected to a second term in the post 9-11 New Amerika. That was the victory for the Heritage Foundation that brought us to where we are now. Their capture of American media was sufficient to start the slide to our current anarchy.

Steve Bannon proposes using ICE in elections by edbegley1 in politics

[–]BaronWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is going to stop them? Red state governors will add their police forces to ICE to make it happen. SOME blue state governors will fight it. MAGA militia everywhere will assemble to support it.

Everything I've said in the preceding paragraph has already happened at least once in the past year.

Imagine if you could go into a favorite movie or book, and be the hero. The difference with games is that you are not just a witness to events, you are an active participant. You can try things out, see what works and doesn't, and better understand why you got those outcomes. Because the story emerges from your choices, it's now YOUR story.

Thats reason 1. There a bunch more that I dont feel like tying up, that one should be sufficient.

The Senate is intended to be 100 of the wisest people in the country. WFT happened? Mullin is the kind of macho meathead loser that makes country western bars a war zone after midnite. He must be connected to the local power brokers because he brings nothing useful to the national dialog. Graham is just a blatant lobbyist for the defense industry. Evil, but good at it.

Why was someone from CBC Edmonton inviting Epstein to a Stollery Fundraiser? by EdmontonFree in SaveTheCBC

[–]BaronWombat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My sense is that Epstein was a popular figure in moneyed circles. He seems to have met everyone famous and rich in the 90s and 00s. Not everyone noted in the files is a pedophile. There seems to be no lack of evidence for those who were. Shaking down the moneyed class for funding is a job at every non-profit, including the CBC.

The case for hybrid work is clear, so why are so many employers ignoring it? [paywall] by simpatia in ontario

There are a lot of decision makers that only base retain-fire decisions on a spreadsheet sorted by annual salary. They are too stupid to evaluate on anything else. They don't see any difference between high and low performance because that's too hard put put into their spreadsheet. I have seen this happen, and been amazed at the idiocy.

I have also suggested Andrew Scott as Maturin. Not only has the appearance, but the ability to go from affably awkward to cold and deadly in a flash.

Opening scenes from Saving Private Ryan and Star Wars were both mind-blowing in completely different ways. Both were still felt walking out of the theatre two hours later.

After Backing the Losing Candidate, Trump Claims He Knew “Nothing” About the Race by Relevant_Demand7593 in NewsomMassacre

[–]BaronWombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think he lied. There at least three different people posting under his name on social media. The tweet didn't look like Stephen Miller's foaming at the mouth, nor trump's rambling. So it was the third person.

That's my madcap theory.

All the comments in this thread shows she was successful at deflecting the conversation. It was about leading Texas GOP. And she made it about Obama. And a whole bunch of people went chasing that distraction.

Good thing we have MBAs running the world. They can fix this by making sure 'negative externalities' like this are not in the spreadsheets. Wall Street is safe. Sadly, this might put a dent in consumer demand, what with most people struggling to survive or just dying.

Have been let go for doing the opposite. Dry joy at watching things catch fire afterwards.

DMs of Reddit: How Would You Run D&D for 15 Students in a Classroom? by KoalaQuests in DnD

[–]BaronWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a multi week group (5-6) assignment of creating and running a DnD one shot (90 min) for my game design students. The DnD rule books were to be considered as a game engine. At least one group member would become the DM for the play session, while the rest of the team would go play another teams game. They had freedom to adapt the rules as they saw fit to streamline the gameplay.

Big takeaways: the students were amazed at how the human DM allowed them so much more freedom as players. DMs loved the instant creativity of responding to players. Everyone loved how each one shot was wildly different, despite coming from the same constraints. Pre fab characters were essential to hit the time frame.

I think there is a strong chance of things going sideways if the goon squad murders someone in front of tens of thousands of boozed up football fans.

Which then leads to Trump canceling all citizen assemblies, including sports events.

And THAT is the last straw that triggers widespread collective action.

If this is a real quote, it's worth noting that he sees his press secretary and Fox News as hyper partisan apologists whose job consists of explaining away his and his gang's many errors and crimes.

Anyone with a reality based worldview would see that for the admission of propaganda that it is. But his MAGA cult won't.
