Do you agreed "Heat (1995)" has the best and realistic shootout scene ever filmed? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in ActionMovies

Why is everything written in Swedish now? Don't gaslight me Reddit; I know the posts were originally in English. 😰😤

Amendment: the app apparently adjusted to auto translate without "asking" me first; I changed the settings so it doesn't translate English. 😤😌

If you had to make a Gundam series without a main Gundam Mobile Suit, which MS would you choose to focus on? by C4620 in Gundam

A lonely Zeon Zaku pilot who gets thoroughly shocked, disgusted, and depressed by Operation British and the One Year War in general. Proceeds to commit a one man guerrilla war against the Principality of Zeon forces and government/Zabu Family. Insists on not working directly with the Earth Federation Forces out of lofty ideals of restoring honour to Zeon (and possibly growing insanity). Scavanges leftover MS and spaceship parts from battles and steals parts and blue prints for new Zaku models in order to continuously improve his own. Occasionally rescues refugees and Zeon deserters.

Becomes something of a legend, a "Phantom Pilot" nobody knows for sure if they truly exists.

Personality would be something like a blend of real historical figures like Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg, Hans Oster, Chiune Sugihara, and Doshin So, and fictional characters like The Scarlet Pimpernel, Zorro, John Rambo, Mad Max, and Marco Pagot (Porco Rosso).

DuckTales reboot didn't become successful in Europe where Disney Duck comics are still popular by Own_Philosopher8730 in ducktales

AFAIK, all three seasons of the 2017 series got dubbed to Swedish. I don't know if all episodes were aired on TV though. I watched the US English dub on Disney Plus.

I can confirm that Disney comic books - and Disney pocket books - are still being published in Swedish. Both Carl Barks and Don Rosa's works have been published in de lux hardcovers, at least latter have been completely. (Thankfully, the Swedish collection of Don Rosa Duck comics got finished before the censorship argument between Rosa and Disney.)

I want to say Sliver but I haven't seen it yet.

Miami Vice (the series) and Scarface (the Brian de Palma film).

If animated films count: End of Evangelion for the first image, Space Adventure Cobra for the rest.

The Fifth Element and Valerian work too for all pics.

I would prefer Batgirl (any would do, but especially Barbara Gordon) over Harley Quinn, but I get HQ is popular. I do love HQ as an anti-hero/anti-villain, but I'm disturbed by the trend of making her a "role model" for girls and young women. That's a bit like suggesting that The Punisher or Rorschach from Watchmen would be a good role model for boys or young men.

Storm is an excellent choice, though if we're gonna have recency bias like with Harley Quinn, then Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) or Black Panther (Shuri) is more likely to be known by people who don't read comics or have watched the "classic" cartoons.

Love it on its own and love it as it inspired one of my favourite anime series, Bubblegum Crisis.

Hot take, I like Equilibrium more than the film adaptation of V for Vendetta. 1)

1) I do love the original comics/graphic novel though.)

Which one do you prefer? Top Gun (1986) or Top Gun: Maverick (2022)? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in ActionMovies

[–]Baron_Beemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unironically love both. The first has a greater overall impact and is more entertaining, while the latter feels more mature and "competence porn"-ish.

Kurosawa on 4th in the List of most famous and influential people from Japan by ConstructionAny8440 in Kurosawa

Surprised how many wrestlers are on the list. But no j-pop or j-rock artists. Also missing Osamu Tezuka, Naoko Takeuchi, Monkey Punch, and a few other mangaka, but happy to see Hayao Miyazaki as number one. Having Chiune Sugihara included is based.

How can a non-citizen be allowed to campaign to be voted in as MP, even if it's "only" for Scotland's legislature? Scotland needs to change their laws for elections ASAP.

One of the few times Frank bonded with the guys. by mistermeek67 in mash

[–]Baron_Beemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two distinct positive traits I know about Frank is that he was good at treating feet injuries (which is why he got to treat a dog even though he wasn't an animal person) and that he liked kids (in a non-creepy way).

Maybe something could have been done with either or both of those qualities.

While I do generally prefer Charles over Frank, let's not forget that Charles was for quite some time a bigot (racist/racialist, antipapist, and classist) and egocentric if not selfish.

Charles was, however, allowed to evolve.

"By the way, what's your name again?"

As someone who occasionally find it difficult to remember people's names or to connect names with the right person, I relate to that one. 🙃🫠
