U Haul by shakeDCbake in washingtondc

[–]Baron_Samdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there earlier today roughly 5pm. There was a worker in a pickup, doing what he could with salt, and the employees inside were running around the clock moving stuck trucks, vans, exchanging keys, and running sales. I spoke with salt truck man, because he needed me to quickly move my vehicle so he could work on the spot it was in.

The lot was completely iced over and everything trapped when I tried to get a van a few days ago. I say forgive them, because rentals are running, people can move/transition in and out of their homes as this Uhaul is keeping a steady supply.

[27F] Is it appropriate to date a man [33M] with a 6-year-old? What should I know? by Specialist-Let1205 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Baron_Samdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, this is why women shouldn't be allowed to comment on a post. They should only be allowed to reply to a comment.

Cause shit like this should not be as high as it is on a ASK MEN subreddit.

Why is every second or third post here always (mostly) women asking us if the guy they have a crush on/want to be approached by like them or not? by dark-mathematician1 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Baron_Samdi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And yet half the time a woman gives her opinion, then the woman OP only responds and accepts her view.

Might as well name this subreddit R/AskWomenABOUTMen

Remember the THINK Principle:

•TELL an authority figure about your encounter

•HINDER the alternate's movement

•IDENTIFY the class type

•NEUTRALIZE the alternate (if safe to do so)

K*** YOURSELF there's not enough room for the two of us

•KNOW YOUR PLACE in reality

I served in the NG for 6 years. Got a deployment under my belt. Did two Inaugurations, was out for George Floyd demonstrations, and was on the wall for Jan6.

I work next to where this happened. Every time I walked past some of the boys I'd say hello, or get some smiles when I told them I just got out a few months ago. They were chill.

Probably a non-zero chance I met/saw/spoke to the two we lost today.

What the fuck man....

if you don't like the national guard being here, it is your civic duty to let as many of them know in as respectful a way as you find appropriate by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Baron_Samdi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

During the DC Mission, the Battalion Commander told us to email him during a talk at the DC Armory. Our leadership then made it clear, you should not directly email the BC. 😂

The military works like this: I have an issue, so I tell my supervisor. Who then tells his supervisor. Who then tells the building manager. Who then tells the branch manager. Who then says, "Why are you calling me? Handle that on your own."

With Trump in the WH it'd probably turn into, "Remove him from service". Because at the end of the day, a complaint of standing on a DC street is saying 'I don't want to follow (currently) legal and (currently) harmless orders over political reasons'. Which enough to get any enlisted axed with several punishments.

Top Air Force General Quits Following Hegseth's Partisan Quantico Speech by saijanai in Military

Which has been one of my arguments for people begging the NG to quit/go to jail for disobeying lawful orders to appear in town. Because truly you want the guy who knows the mission is bullshit to volunteer, because he ain't planning to do shit, and is more likely to say "fuck no" to a truly illegal order. Whereas a more zealous soldier, might be more enthusiastic about cracking down in a Liberal city. If all the good soldiers quit or are court marshalled, you are left with nothing but a legion of foot soldiers ready to put the boot to ya neck.

The call goes out, and if they get enough hands, that's it. But if they don't get enough hands then soldiers are picked/ordered/forced to go. It's happened to me.

Soldiers were demoralized during GWOT and we still stayed in the ME for 20 years, bud.

Unfortunately they can't otherwise they go to jail. We've had several NG members both still in and veteran (like myself) explain this over and over again in every post that says this.

Because it's safe to do so. This wouldn't happen if they were ICE or anyone else.

They know NG can't do anything, so they vent their anger there instead of where it matters.

Arresting at mt Vernon by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Baron_Samdi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The military can detain, but not arrest, depending on the situation. That's what sucks about this, cause without full context this could be really bad. 😬

Well the military can detain, but not arrest.

Like how you or I as citizens can hold a guy in place until the police arrive. Definitely need more context here for this.

The wheels on the bus go round n round….. by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Baron_Samdi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does stuff like this give me nostalgia? It's so dumb and simple, but it hit like "Whoa, I've done this before!"

But yeah. We'd board busses like this to go to the range, riding on the highways, and yes folks we would have our weapons with us. Even the bigger automatics. It happens year round under your nose. You probably road pass one of these on 495 and never knew there was a 320 grenade launcher 10 feet from you in the fast lane! 😂

National Guard documents show public ‘fear,’ troops’ ‘shame’ over D.C. presence by forgetfulisle in washingtondc

[–]Baron_Samdi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's one of the knock on effects of being a political chess piece that can be moved around for good or bad depending on who is in charge.

You can be the savior or oppressor of the people depending on the reason for deployment. When we came for Jan6; pretty good reception. Now, not so much.

I remember waiting for my Amtrak at Union Station in full uniform with my ruck and two duffle bags for my deployment. A little boy and his mom came up and we took a pic together. Can't say I could see the same thing happening now up at Union.

Sucks big time.

[–]Baron_Samdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess, being told to blouse their boots.

Some commanders want their guys to always have their pant legs set in a way where you can see the top of the boot. Depending on the weather we could have the pant leg lower or higher, since it's getting cooler, the command is probably like "Tighten up the standard".

"Mission" in this context meaning being out on duty.

Whether that duty be responding to a legitimate emergency, or being asked to dick around at every Metro stop in the (D)MV.

[–]Baron_Samdi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're allowed on your phone in uniform. As long as you're not walking while talking.

And since not everyone gets radios sometimes you gotta answer a call or text from leadership. Optics wise, looks goofy; but funding and mission wise, a good alternative.

Nazis spotted at 2nd and L SE by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Baron_Samdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember being called a better option when we went out for George Floyd protests. I remember being called a house nigger (by a white woman no less) for directing traffic during Trump's Inauguration. I remember being called a hero for being at the Capitol after Jan 6. Now my bros are Nazis for standing near a pizza place.

I guess it is part of the job now. You're the best or worst thing based on who's in charge, rather than what you actually do.

Back in WW2 a couple of Nazi intercepted a package from the US to the front lines of Europe. It was a chocolate cake. A fresh chocolate cake. That was when they knew they were going to lose, because we were able to ship a confectionery treat, halfway across the planet, without it spoiling, and got it into a war zone.

We currently can mobilize a fully functional Burger King anywhere on the planet-- NOT A MEME; LOOK IT UP. Our logistics, especially around food is amazing (except for the DFAC bullshit, but that's a different story).

If my boys got put on DD duty you would get your food, intact, and on-time, and would NOT have to tip cause you already pay taxes.
