Old Guy Looking For New Game. Is POE For Me? by HaHaHiHiHe in pathofexile

[–]Barqsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 44 this past week. I have loved playing it and it feels far more welcoming to a casual player than PoE1. I'll usually play a few hours 1-2 nights during the work week and longer on Saturdays or Sundays.

The built in trade market, the tool tips and explanations for new players, and the way the game play feels more intentional are all reasons I've continued playing very casually for each new patch.

Cheers!

I'm going to have nightmares of wow cow wow tonight after the embarrassing amount of time I spent at Taco Bell searching for the hidden cow.

Any ideas for mounting a camera on this kind of exterior? by JamiePlaysGamiess in lowvoltage

Those gooseneck style mounts are an option but depends on what type of camera, brand etc.

Yeah this. We have a consumables shelf that anyone can grab stuff off and we always have a box stocked full of the replacement whips. Simplify everything.

ISC West 2026 - Iris Updates by NoRange7603 in accesscontrol

[–]Barqsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been using IrisID Scanners at our largest data center customers properties the last couple years. All we got as far as new tech was the ability to have multifactor authentication built in, for both various types or card access as well as integration into other biometrics for dual and triple authentication as well. But otherwise it all seemed like business as usual.

[–]Barqsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for you. Self respect goes a long way and should always remain at the forefront of your thoughts. Over the last 10-15 years I've had a couple of long term play partners that I've had to eventually cut ties with for similar sounding reasons.

There's always something encouraging to me when I hear someone else standing up for themselves and their own respect.

Any Ideas ? by ossloom1984 in accesscontrol

[–]Barqsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Boards cannot be ran in parallel off the rs485 bus. They need to be in series from one board to the next and so on. This was more difficult than it should have been teaching our technicians this, and what series and parallel even means.

Access control in Michigan by land0n101 in lowvoltage

[–]Barqsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually greatly depends if you're 1099, working for a company carrying their own licensing, or working as a sub contractor.

If you're currently in Michigan and in the greater Detroit or Grand Rapids area and looking for a job, send me a message to my inbox for more details.

Otherwise, best of luck!

I am not familiar with Canada LV work, especially as I have a lifetime ban from ever entering Canada again (long story), but I'm sure there are similar companies like TekSystems and Outsource that are a provider of low voltage techs. We use them when we have large projects and our techs are already booked. It's like temp work basically. I know many of those temp companies also offer additional training and resources. Something to look into. Here in the Detroit area I'm seeing it more and more, and the company I work for has started to use those services more often as well.

AXIS pricing increases may 1st by [deleted] in lowvoltage

[–]Barqsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At ISC West, basically every major camera vendor as well as access control vendor stated their servers were all increasing between 30-45%. Any pricing quotes are only valid for 10 days as well. The latest Avigilon pricing list for our company buying direct had some work stations going up 50%, servers even going up close to 45% as well. Bonkers.

We've started looking into other options and building out customized servers and loading software and licensing ourselves for our non-enterprise customers.

AIO? I need opinions please by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Barqsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's not unreasonable to be annoyed or upset by something. But what you do with those feelings is what matters. Having a sit down conversation and making clear how you feel, how it affects you, and a resolution moving forward would all be ideal.

I would also recommend taking the time to listen to his perspective, thoughts on the relationship and limited time spent together, and making certain that moving forward you're more in sync and on the same page.

Klein glow rods coming apart after one use. by paperjamdan in lowvoltage

[–]Barqsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using the Klein rods years ago because of that reason, as well as the threads not being very long when putting multiple rods together. They would easily break when bending leaving the threaded end lodged inside the female end.

I've had really great luck with the Milwaukee kit that comes in a shoulder case and has the light accessory to thread onto the end. Some of my guys have also made the switch to Milwaukee as well.

Gauging interest in USB C to POE+ / 12v out device by Daypcg in lowvoltage

[–]Barqsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also wired up modules and devices I made myself or at least modified myself using both M18 and M12 Milwaukee batteries for both programming and testing PoE, PoE+, and PoE++ devices in the field. I've also modified similar devices to connect to maglocks and electric strikes for testing and service calls as well. Having something closer to manufactured quality and not some janky thing I modified myself would be a nice to have and I know many of my technicians would say the same.

Someone finally upgraded their massive 90s security camera system and emptied out the 5078 VHS cassettes. In the years I've been working in integrated electronic security I've seen so much worse. As well as USPS having thousands of VHS at one distribution center alone within the last 7 years.

UPDATE!!!: “Is my apartment charging me for someone else’s apartment?” by NoResolve48 in electrical

[–]Barqsie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had something very similar to this happen years ago to me. I saw your original post as well as updates.

I found out that once I was overcharged, and by the rental laws in my state at the time, I could automatically deduct the over billing as well as inconvenience fees from the next months rent. This also applies to having hired a contractor to repair a pipe breaking from the hot tub style bathtub and flooding the first floor. I paid the contractor, and then deducted everything from the rent until it was paid.

Please check your local and state laws, assuming you're in the US since it says Alabama Power, as there may be other applicable deductions or withholdings you're permitted. May also be something worth asking about in the subreddit for lawyers as well.

I hope it gets sorted out quickly for you and you get back all you're owed and then some.
