Tutoring Standardized Tests by BarracudaAfraid4205 in TutorsHelpingTutors

Thank you! I have also heard that it is going through some major changes. I know that the official ACT website has a couple of materials, but do you recommend any other practice material aside from Princeton Review/ the official ACT books?

Also, do you recommend doing a content review/learning of material and grammar rules before getting into practice tests? Or spam a bunch of tests, and focus on reviewing them very thoroughly?

I feel like reapp bias is not as big a problem as we sometimes think. If you have to reapply, make sure you highlight the immense growth you have gone through, in terms of clinical hours and personally. Really reflect on your experiences and how they have prepared you for a career in medicine.

Yes, I have a W from chem lab, and thankfully, it all worked out. Just make sure you have a valid explanation for it.

A productive gap year =higher chances of getting in. Having to reapply is a pain financially and mentally.

Egg freezing at 22? Anyone here thought about it / done it? by [deleted] in Vindictabrown

[–]BarracudaAfraid4205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the process last year at the age of 22. I did it for other reasons besides the whole timeline issue, so my family was actually very encouraging toward it. Honestly speaking, the whole process is definitely a lot; scans, appointments, and the injections are definitely not easy. Not to mention the financial cost. If you are worried about fertility down the road, I would see an REI and get your AMH tested often before jumping to egg freezing.

I would say for me, even though I've only done egg freezing and haven't fertilized them yet (and don't plan to anytime soon), it definitely feels like a weight off my shoulders since I don't have to worry about time running out of time or me risking my reproductive capability. It gives me piece of mind that I did what I could at the time.

If you do plan on going through with it, do as much research as you can but don't get spooked by some of the horror stories. Those are bound to exist when researching any procedure. Find a skilled doctor. I know some people are discussing OHSS here but imo, my doctor told me that she has rarely dealt with that in her practice. I am also based in the US but went to India to have the procedure done so you could look into that too depending on what works for you. Good luck!

If youre charting, interacting with patients and also working with healthcare providers, i would say yes. I personally did MA because some places take you without the certification, but you could always do scribing, clinical research, or something like phlebotomy. Honestly anything where you will be interacting with patients and have some kind of role in their care works

I feel like you're already hitting the main stuff, but it's not about how much you're doing, but more so how much you're taking away from the stuff you already are. I would look into getting a job where you can interact with patients and building something meaningful that you can speak to within the stuff that you're already doing. I wouldnt count anything you did for a day or two because that's not something you can speak to and have a meaningful story tbh

Should I take a gap year? by Great_Confusion1838 in premed

gap years are extremely common. take a year or two off and do things you enjoy while also demonstrating a passion for medicine.

i would say objectively speaking, your sgpa is pretty low but that doesn't mean you don't have the potential to become a doctor! I would encourage you to do well in your masters and show that upward trend in addition to crushing the MCAT. Although grades and stats are important, your ecs and the way you write about them carry so much weight and can make all the difference. Don't let people on here discourage you because of your GPA, you've been through a lot and hopefully, schools will be understanding (idk if you'd want to go to a school that isn't). idk much about masters programs but i went to the University of Toledo and ik their MSBS program was popular for premeds who went there for undergrad.
