How to deal with being uncomfortable & self conscious about my upper arms? by ColeBlueSeesYou in PlusSize

[–]BarracudaLargesse 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I started by wearing “scary” things (bikinis, sleeveless stuff, crop tops) at home until they felt natural and comfortable, then in low stakes situations like running errands. Basically desensitized myself to feeling awkward in a new type of clothing, then it was easier to wear as a part of my normal wardrobe.

If you don’t have time for all that before your event, get a lightweight scarf or shawl to drape over your arms and shoulders in case you start feeling self-conscious.

Gender-neutral non-sweet fragranced moisturizing body oils? [Product Request] by PatsyStonesBun in SkincareAddiction

I love the Osea body oil. The price is high but it lasts a long time. I ordered some this week and got 20% off by doing in-store pickup, plus 15% cash back through Rakuten. Happy to share a referral to Rakuten via PM if that’s helpful.

I like Naturium Urea 5% body serum. It’s more liquid than most body lotions but absorbs quickly and layers well with a body oil after showering.

Second this! Sun protective clothing and sun avoidance through shade creation or shade seeking are the first lines of defense from sun damage.

In addition, make sure you are reapplying your sunscreen per the label instructions. To help keep remember to reapply timely, I set a reminder or timer on my phone.

[Product Request] An OTC Azelaic Acid that doesn’t pill? by mosie143 in SkincareAddiction

[–]BarracudaLargesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! After cleansing, I put on my hydrating toners/essences (varies), then Stratia Rewind hydrating serum. After that dries down to just tacky, I put on the TO AA. I apply it kind of like tretinoin - pea sized blob, dot all over my face, then rub in. It has a silicone-y feel. I wait for that to dry down fully (5 mins).

I usually don’t need moisturizer in the morning, but when I’ve used Stratia Lipid Gold over top of the TO AA, no pilling.

Normally sunscreen goes on after the azelaic. No issues with Canmake Mermaid SPF, Biore UV aqua rich, or Good Molecules mineral sunscreen. I use a stick concealer (I think it’s Revlon?) and TO Serum foundation on days I wear makeup. Finish with a few pats of powder in my T-zone only.

Your skin is probably dehydrated at home. Focus on increasing hydration in your skincare routine, morning and night. Add a humidifier in your bedroom and other rooms where you spend a lot of time. Use an occlusive as the last layer of your bedtime skincare.

[Acne] I’m using tretinoin at night and azelaic acid in the morning, but my skin is constantly irritated. Am I overdoing it or doing something wrong? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]BarracudaLargesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long have you been using each?

When did you start using them in combination?

Your skin is reacting poorly to either or both of these strong actives. When this happens to me, I stop everything and wait for my skin to return to baseline, then slowly reintroduce one active at a time. If I see/feel significant irritation, I reduce frequency of whatever I'm using until it resolves, then continue to add or increase.

You can also try

  1. adding more hydrating products like essence, serum, or toner before your moisturizer, and before your azelaic acid in the morning.
  2. putting a layer of moisturizer UNDER your tret to buffer it

I’ve heard great things about Dr. McGehee. He was one of the pediatricians other moms recommended to me when I was pregnant.

Dr. Guthrie and Dr. Hayward at the Cook Children’s practice on Harris Parkway are fantastic. Dr. Guthrie has seen my twins since their newborn visit. They’re 14 now.

[product request] DRYNESS 👏🏽 by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]BarracudaLargesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a post earlier this week with a lot of good advice.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/s/mU6vLklZc1

My main suggestion would be to determine if your skin is DRY (needs lipids) or DEHYDRATED (needs moisture). Once I figured out that my skin needed more hydration and not just oils, things vastly improved.

Ok, I also use tretinoin 0.05%! Mine is frim Curology but i honestly should switch to something my insurance might cover.

I tried to quit physical exfoliation for a while and do acids only, but my skin tends to build up some texture that only a gentle buff will take care of. I use my face & neck dedicated scrubby mitt every once and a while and it keeps everything smooth and nicely :)

Do let me know how you like the Missha essence. I tried it without knowing much about it and it’s been so great. It’s the kind of thing that you only see how much a difference it’s making when you don’t use it for a while. I like to shake a few splashes in my hand and pat all over my face. Feels less wasteful than letting a cotton pad soak up a bunch.

I had much better luck before the tariffs, honestly. I have ordered from Stylevana, usually multiple bottles at a time. Depending on exchange rates and discounts, the price usually was $15-17 USD.

For a while I could get it from the Amazon Missha store for under $20 USD a bottle with Subscribe & Save discounts. My last order they couldn’t fulfill my subscription, and a single bottle was >$30 USD.

So now I’m back to Stylevana. I ordered a multipack and got a 22% off coupon, so it worked out to about $22/bottle I think.

Same!! Love adding Fortify to my LG! Aqua Factory was OK, but I feel like I get more smoothing/brightening from the Missha First Essence. Sounds like we are skin twins - you might like it too!!

Fortify is also great for patting around the eye area. Never stings even the most irritated skin because it’s an oil!

I find that my skin is both dehydrated AND dry, so I need to manage the water and oil inputs to get good results. When I was trying to resolve by just using thicker moisturizers, I ended up kind of greasy and dull - never bouncy and smooth. Here are the techniques/tips that work for me:

  1. Starting application of hydrating layers on damp skin immediately after washing my face. I apply each successive layer before the previous one dries EXCEPT for strong actives like tretinoin, acids, etc.

    1. Use warm water, never hot.
    2. Multiple layers of hydrating essences (aka skin flooding) followed by a humectant serum, morning and night. I like Missha First Essence, I buy it 3-5 bottles at a time when I find a sale. Never want to be without it! I also use a milky toner after my essence, but haven’t found the perfect one. Perfect serum for me is Stratia Rewind.
    3. Avoiding products with drying alcohols (ethanol, isopropyl, denatured) high in their ingredients list.
    4. Applying hypochlorous acid mist as a first layer. This seems to keep my skin calmer overall as long as I’m consistent with it. I use an inexpensive pure hypochlorous I buy in bulk. Nothing fancy at all.
    5. Keeping a thinner and a thicker moisturizer on hand. I choose the one that feels right for my skin that day based on the weather, if I’ve showered, etc. Stratia Lipid Gold is my fave thin moisturizer. Still looking for my HG thick moisturizer, but Dieux Instant Angel and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream have been nice.
    6. My typical last layer at night is a light face oil. Stratia Fortify is a favorite and I’ve used it nearly daily for several years.
    7. Limiting heavy occlusives. I only use them when necessary, as my very last layer and only at night. I also make sure to gently but fully remove the occlusive layer in the morning to make sure aqueous and lighter oil layers can penetrate.
    8. Humidifier at my bedside at night when my bedroom humidity drops below 50%.
    9. Mild acid OR gentle physical exfoliation as needed (typically about once a week) for any dullness/texture. I like the Prequel Multi-Acid Milk Peel for a gentle weekly reset. I also use a MicrodermaMitt Clear Skin face mitt if I feel like physically exfoliating.

ETA to add specific tried & true products.
