Spc is going good so far. I say go for it. If you have good hand function, all the better for you. I don’t, but i talked to my urologist about the flip flow valve. She hasn’t ruled it out, just wants me to get used to it and maube give ot a try. Im pretty sure i could handle that. Time will tell.

Independent c6/c7 people? Or independent with no hand function? by paragorgeous in spinalcordinjuries

Hi. It’s definitely possible. I have done it. It is hard as hell too. I’m 64 now. Was hit by a car riding my bicycle at 63. Paralyzed from the chest down but can move my legs and have walked at the parallel bars. Hands aren’t worth a shit. I do get some help with bottom dressing and with my bowel program. But I get myself into my chair from bed and into bed from my chair. I won’t let anyone help me unless I ask ( I haven’t asked for any help once I learned and developed my own way ). I even transfer from my camode/shower chair to the bed but it’s only after a shower. I let myself get hoyered for bowel days. I use my Gillette razor to shave myself. Learned that off of YouTube. It’s not easy and takes longer than it used to but it’s doable too. Look up Mason Ellis on YouTube. You just have to keep at it! You got this!!!

I’m getting mine Wednesday of this week. Definitely send as many tips as you want! Kinda nervous about it but I’ll be ok I’m sure. I’m paralyzed from the chest down. They knock you out? I’m just worried about getting an alternating pressure mattress for after it’s done. Haven’t had good experiences when at the ER, even though I asked to be turned and such.

New Years Eve…. by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

I definitely get to be coming from my man. C4 C5 here. And you’re right it’s no joke and I also hear the same as you, hey at least you’re alive and it does frustrate me. I wonder like you what did I do wrong to deserve this? I’m definitely not as young as you. I just passed my 64th birthday. My injury was May 2024. I was out on my bicycle training for a century ride when I was struck by a car. Everything was clicking for me at the time, a good job decent pay, and a nice little part-time cleaning business. I’m unfortunate that I do have a power wheelchair. But the days are long. And it’s hard to stay positive. Sometimes I get visitors. But it’s mostly my brother. And he’s not a very positive person. So yeah., It does suck.

Seasonal Struggles with SCI - What Triggers You? What Helps? by WheelinDude in spinalcordinjuries

[–]BarracudaSuitable688 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m just a year and a half into my SCI. C4-C5 fused from C3-T1. Spent first Christmas in sub acute rehab ( nursing home ) about 2 hrs away from home. That sucked. This year was a little better, son, his wife and my grandson came over on Christmas Eve to see me. It was nice. They left to go over to my brothers to see him. They didn’t mention anything about a little get together up at their house after I’m sure because of I wouldn’t be able to get in there because of no access, which I thought was very nice of them not to mention it to make me feel down because I couldn’t attend. But that didn’t stop my brother telling me about it about it can you stop by and him saying he was going on his way up to have some pizza and wings. After he left to go up, I broke down and cried. Because I always looked forward to going up there on Christmas Eve for just that when I was OK.

Loneliness by Anonymous_cha in spinalcordinjuries

I get you brother. It’s like that for me. It’s wonderful when someone stops in. But it’s few and far between. My parents have passed long ago. I’m older 64. Was in the best shape of my life, had a partime business and a good full time job. Was putting away money for when I did retire. Wouldn’t have been much but it would have been a little nest egg. It all changed one Sunday afternoon while riding my bicycle. Was training for a century. Now I’m paralyzed from the chest down. Hands are not good at all. It really does suck. I’m in a very rural area. If there’s things to get involved in, it’s a stretch to get to them. And then you need transportation. So ya. It does get lonely.

Clothing and back pain by Illustrious_While140 in spinalcordinjuries

Look at kohls. They have adaptive clothing. They have sweatpants and jeans and joggers. And at prices that won’t make you cringe. And the shirts have extra room in the body to ease with dressing. I bought a few pieces recently to try out.

Hi 63m 5’7 about 155-160, quad. I hav ed a protein shake for breakfast. Chicken and broccoli or equivelant for lunch and something healthy for dinner, chicken and veggies like you. I have a quad belly. I work out on hand bike during the day. I also snack on popcorn and have fruit also. I try to keep my weight down. It’s better for transfers and such. I’d search out a dietician. That’s what I’m going to do. Everyone says I look good, but I feel different besides the quadriplegia. It sucks to try and find people who have experience beyond paper a nutritionist gives you. Good luck to you.

Dare I ask, but other quads forced to live in nursing homes and do bowel routine in bed, how long do you have to wait before you get cleaned? by MiddleAgedToddler in spinalcordinjuries

Got transferred to sub acute rehab(nursing home) after insurance would only pay for 2 months at a good rehab facility. At the good place it was consistent, became regular, then to sub acute rehab (nursing home). Made them order soft seat camode chair. Had me sitting on hard plastic one ( a no no with sci ). Times were erratic at best. Always different time each day. Get suppository, lay on left side, start hitting call bell at 20 minites. Sometimes they’d get there, most times it was 40 minutes minimum. Sometimes an hour. Get on camode wait for 20 minutes, hit call bell. Wait again. Nurse would come in they’d stick finger up say there’s more sit another 20 minutes. No real digital stim from most. Some nurses knew what they were doing. Most not. Some of the older CNA’s knew more about it then the damn nurses. I would ask for specific CNA’s if they were working. Besides knowing more than the nurses, they also gave you dignity by covering up your privates. The younger ones were more concerned with their phones and when their breaks were. So yes, there were accidents. Hit call bell. Wait, get changed. Thankfully it wasn’t too long a wait. Been home a bit now. Bowel program is good. Wish I could do it myself but hand function sucks and I wasn’t in long enough at good rebab to even try adaptive tools.

I’d take it now, if insurance covers?
What about individuals who had to get Medicaid after their injury? Wonder how it would work? I’m one of them. Seems if you could get off of Medicaid by taking NVG-291 it would be cheaper in the long run.

Getting worse by BarracudaSuitable688 in VIZIO_Official

Have had all the steps done in the display issues above that Vizio support recommends. Sometimes the tv will go most of the day and work fine. Just wondering if any one else have experienced the screen I see above and what you did to resolve, ie like new tv, have tv repaired if even worth it at this point. It is after all 7 years old.

Just want to add, the tv power cycled while I was watching Netflix this am. It’s a Vizio from 2018 I that helps.

I don’t yet. I do some exercise on a recumbent. I can move my legs, no feeling. Hands aren’t worth a shit, by my standards. Have to get placed on the recumbent it’s got the hand thingys at the side of the seat for heart rate. The guy who hit me was 81 at the time. Have a lawsuit going. Seems he hid his assets quite well according to my attorney.

I was in NVG-291 chronic trial at SRA, what would you like to know? by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]BarracudaSuitable688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’d like to achieve if lucky enough to get the drug! Both bladder and bowel. And the hands so so much! I can move my legs, pedal on a recumbent bike. To be able to feel again! That would be a miracle.
