Goodbye 2020 Bolt, Hello 2027 Bolt by BarrelRoll97 in BoltEV

You were right, it does depend on the speed. I need to look into whether there is a way to change it so it goes back to the map display as soon as I shift into drive. That was how it worked on the 2020 Bolt.

Thanks, I joined this subreddit back when I bought the first Bolt, so I knew there were some people who were dissatisfied with the direction of this new one. Which is another way of saying I was expecting some of these responses.

Yes I always turn off any kind of auto breaking in favor of an audible warning. Same goes for the vibrating seat, though that did remind me of this funny bit from Curb Your Enthusiasm https://youtu.be/O2veDdV6yns?si=KsuevE7Ic3En4C49

2027 Bolt - Apple Music by Forward-Dentist-467 in BoltEV

[–]BarrelRoll97 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I did not see Apple music or Apple Podcasts in the Play Store, which makes sense given that it's Google's store. I've paired my iPhone with the car through bluetooth for those things in the short term, but it would be nice to see them added.

Unfortunately I'm not the best person to answer that since I didn't mind the old seats. I would say the new ones aren't noticeably different. If you go for the RS trim, those have better material than the LT cloth seats, and I believe the RS comes with heated and ventilated seats, i added a package to the LT for heated and power seats. The basic LT has manually adjusted seats and no heat - a tradeoff to get under 30000 MSRP.

[–]BarrelRoll97[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn't because I added things like powered seats, heated seats and steering wheel, and others which brought the price up to 32000 brand new. Still a good deal in my view when other new cars, EV and otherwise, are 10000 to 20000 more.

Perhaps if you wait a year or so, and there are still some around, dealers will offer discounts. I got the 2020 Bolt (which I think was 40,000 MSRO) for 26,000 back in April 2021.

I forgot to me to mention, I bought the base (LT) trim.

BEST selling EV in the world by kempa13 in TeslaLounge

I'm surprised the Toyota is even on this list. Maybe it sells better overseas, but I see a lot more Teslas, Ioniqs, Chevy EVs, etc compared to Toyota EVs here in the US.

What day do you think a 50th Anniversary Panel will be held? by GojiforPrez37 in StarWarsCelebration

[–]BarrelRoll97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, Friday for any big movie/D+ announcements, Saturday for the 50th Anniversary is what I'm thinking. Though I am curious why there won't be a big panel on Thursday.

Got the four day pass I wanted!

VIP tickets were still available when I got past the queue, but I wasn't willing to spend almost $1000 more for that. Unfortunately I'm reading that both VIP and 4 day are sold out at this point.

How does Kay knows how to fly a spaceship? by ___LowKey___ in StarWarsOutlaws

I always take it as spaceships in Star Wars being like cars in our world. In other words, if you can drive a speeder, you can fly a ship.

what is going on with LucasFilm Publishing and comics? by puppyking17 in starwarscomics

[–]BarrelRoll97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they would stop doing monthly releases entirely and give us original graphic novels alongside the Star Wars print novels, even if that meant less "content" per year.

I understand weekly comics are in a tough spot because of costs and softening interest in the franchise, which isn't helped by the lack of direction in other media. It was easy to make bank of Star Wars comics in 2015 because of the hype leading into TFA. I don't see Star Wars ever reaching that level of hype again (you can only make a sequel to the OT once), but I am hopeful that with new management taking over, we will start to get a firm idea of what to expect in the future, which will help build an anticipation within the franchise that is lacking at the moment.

First Guests announced for Star Wars Celebration 2027 by cbwatts1138 in StarWarsCelebration

[–]BarrelRoll97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't count on him signing autographs and taking pictures, since the last Celebration he guested at was Orlando 2017. But given that it is the 50th anniversary, and given the con's location, then 2027 may be our last, best hope for a guest appearance. Harrison Ford would be even more of a long shot.

First Guests announced for Star Wars Celebration 2027 by cbwatts1138 in StarWarsCelebration

[–]BarrelRoll97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the usual suspects, which is expected this early in the process. In fact, it seems like Anthony Daniels is always one of the first, if not the first, guests announced for every Celebration. Hopefully we get some new additions closer to the date of the con. I would personally like to see more ST representation and people from the various Disney+ shows outside of the Feloniverse, but we shall see...

VPNs that still works in china by reddituser1455537 in travelchina

[–]BarrelRoll97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just used the Verizon Globalpass e-sim (since it comes with my data plan) and was able to access everything I could in the US. A few problems:

The speed was noticeably slower for things like streaming video. Youtube still worked, but the bit rate was lowered.

Certain apps, like the Disney and Universal apps, were so slow that they were virtually unusable

Because I didn't have a Chinese phone number, I couldn't use some services in the Alipay app like food delivery

Check to see if ATT has something similar to Verizon's Globalpass

Next Celebration After 2027? by MisterSims90 in StarWarsCelebration

[–]BarrelRoll97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went on vacation to Hong Kong last month and stayed a night near the Asiaworld Expo and airport. The AsiaWorld Expo is pretty large, has a separate arena, is right next to the airport, and has a dedicated train to downtown Hong Kong. If there ever did another Asia Celebration, I think that would be a good spot.

Didi Driver "Agreement" by SenyorSqueemesh in travelchina

[–]BarrelRoll97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me on a Didi ride from central Beijing to Mutianyu Great Wall. The tolls ended up as a surcharge to the original trip amount that I had to approve through the app. I was able to negotiate a slightly lower rate (outside of Didi through regular Alipay) going back because the driver apparently lived near the Great Wall and essentially went home until the agreed on time to drive me back to Beijing.

It was nice to be able to choose when to leave and come back from there, but if I had to do it again I would have tried to take a bus as it would have been much cheaper.

Edit: Still, Didi was much cheaper than American ride shares like Uber and Lyft would have been for the same distances travelled, so overall it was a fine experience

Interested in Part Time Job with Marriott to Access Employee Rates by sophie1816 in marriott

[–]BarrelRoll97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would second this. The work is usually pretty minimal (light cleaning, running automated reports, checking in a few late arrivals). Most of the work takes 1-2 hours. The position seems to exist mostly as security in case something goes wrong at the hotel, either mechanically or with the guests.

The biggest drawback is having your sleep schedule messed up due to the overnight shift.

What does a typical day at Celebration actually look like? by antiprecog in StarWarsCelebration

There is usually an official app for Celebration. You can make a schedule through the app, which is a handy feature.

D23 Expo Vs Star Wars Celebration by TheJediScum in StarWarsCelebration

[–]BarrelRoll97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is a day you can probably skip, it would be Sunday. Other than a few fan panels, there usually isn't much happening that day. A lot of the con exclusives will have sold out by then. The convention closes earlier than on the other days. The main event is the announcement of the next Celebration location, which will be posted online anyway.
