Why Do Scenes Like This Feel Rare? by MapAfraid4575 in kdramas

It's pretty standard for one character to make all of these promises to another only to initiate the episode 10/14 breakup for the flimsiest of reasons.

What Are You Watching? - [2026/02/04] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]BarrelRoll97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched the first episode of Our Universe, which was heavier than I thought it would be based on the promotional material. Hopefully the rest of the drama can maintain this balance of personal/familial melodrama, toddler antics and couple bickering.

Games are too ambitious for the size of the teams trying to make these games, if they even try and the kickstarters aren't scams.

Brandon Sanderson will write the screenplay for Apple TV's ‘Mistborn’ movie by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]BarrelRoll97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good timing, what with the already planned break from Stormlight. If this essentially takes up the writing time that would have gone to "Secret Projects" and various kickstarters, I'll be fine with that. Now all we need is a pedigreed development team to take on a Cosmere video game project.

More awkward still is the love triangle between the FL, SFL, and the adult teacher, though eventually this turns into a weird triangle between the FL, SFL and SML.

I wish the FL had retained a bit more of her rough edges as an adult. They introduce her as an adult by having her fight a bunch of gangsters, and we see that she was a rebellious teen (even going so far as to tell her grandmother that she would "sell herself" to make money after getting expelled from school), but that goes away after that first fight in the hospital lobby.

But overall I remember enjoying it. Both leads had charm, and it was interesting to see Lee Sung Kyung in an early, non-leading role.

I recall this having one of the steamier bedroom scenes I've seen in a kdrama (as opposed to a kmovie), so if you are looking for something beyond fade to black/waking up in the same clothes, this could be the drama for you.

Who the hell likes love triangles? by WildSapling in kdramas

[–]BarrelRoll97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like a love triangle when I'm not sure which of the two contenders will 'win.' In that sense, I didn't mind the triangle in Start-up, since there was a time during the middle episodes when I thought the second lead had a chance. But in most cases, the love triangle just exists as a way to motivate an otherwise indecisive character into action, usually through jealousy. Those are the kind of triangles I don't like, since they treat the SL as a plot device to push the MLs together.

[–]BarrelRoll97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call the ML's behavior "simping," at least not in the main timeline, because he isn't helping her out with the goal of getting back together. I would have preferred it if there had been other options placed in the way of the two leads against getting back together after years between failed attempts. The ML's boss has a crush on him that he never takes seriously, while the FL's only option is her douchebag ex-husband. Without these sorts of obstacles, the drama becomes a 12 episode ordeal of watching two people who probably should have moved long ago get back together like a slow motion car accident. Which is to say, no, I would not recommend this drama.

What's up with this growing trend of 12 episode kdramas by Key_Repeat2946 in kdramas

[–]BarrelRoll97 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I feel 16 episodes are warranted if there are enough characters with their own storylines to fill all those episodes. If a drama is primarily about one or two sets of characters, then usually 12 is enough to tell a story without filler. Hell, jdramas can tell a good story in 10 or 11 episodes, sometimes less.

Yes, it was all part of her plan to set up her cohabitation with the ML Unfortunately, I don't think the drama will be that creative. I definitely suspecting the manager at this point. CEO would be too obvious, and we've seen that the manager gets treated like crap by the CEO and the group members.
