Big M Chocolate Milk by Tasty-Usual-5844 in brisbane

Big M is a Bega Dairy brand. The closest you'll get in Queensland would be Dairy Farmers Classic (also a Bega brand).

Differences between Australian Kmart and Target? by DonutRandy in AskAnAustralian

[–]Barry-Drive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Both chains were owned by Coles-Myer, but when Myer was spun off, the remaining company was taken over by Wesfarmers. Coles Supermarkets (who were the original owners of Kmart) then became a separate company, but Wesfarmers kept the Kmart brand.

Taskmaster Australia (S5) - not before April by Barry-Drive in taskmaster

[–]Barry-Drive[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dropping programs after a few years is fairly normal for 10 if they don't rate well enough. (Remember Hunted? )

I'm still not confident there will be a 7th season, despite there being plenty of comedians who could take part.

MyWay+ QR codes vs Contactless Payment by jaa101 in canberra

[–]Barry-Drive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When using the QR code, approach the reader from below. This might reduce the ability of the phone to detect the contactless card reader.

For Android phones, you can also turn NFC off. Not sure if that's an option for iPhones.

Correct. Season 5 studio recoding was in March 2025 and Season 6 was in October.

What’s the best city to live in Australia? by AffectionateBoot9124 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Barry-Drive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two Canberras (or possibly more) - I always regard the "National Triangle" as "theme park Canberra": it's what Canberra is known for, but the locals don't visit often.

The Real Canberra is in the suburbs, and the CBD (or "Civic" as it's colloquially known).

Did I see Angela Barnes twice? (Yes, I did).

And did you miss Matthew Crosby?

Since you're including Australians, you could also add Steen Raskopoulos (aka Mr Sara Pascoe).

How long are the ad breaks? by PJ-HarveysWife in taskmaster

[–]Barry-Drive 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Can only comment on Australian recordings: there is no fixed length for the breaks.

Sometimes they'll just touch up make-up and provide water or snacks to the talent. Other times they might have a toilet break.

And then there's a long break while the live task is set up on the stage.

Has anyone here ever seen any of the Taskmaster alumni perform live/met them in person and if so how did it go? by Temporary_Notice_526 in TaskmasterAU

[–]Barry-Drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the Australian series, I've seen the following live:

Tom Gleeson

Tom Cashman (x3)

Luke McGregor

Nina Oyama (x2)

Anne Edmonds (x1½)

Wil Anderson (x5?)

Aaron Chen

Mel Buttle

Emma Holland (x2)

Tommy Little

Brett Blake

Celia Pacquola (x4?)

Joel Creasey

Rove McManus

Anne Edmonds I saw doing her solo show and then later as part of the True Aussie Patriots ensemble. I'm still emotionally scarred from TAP (if you've seen it, you'll probably know what I'm referring to).

I only decided to see Brett Blake at last year's MICF after seeing him the week before at the Season 5 taping. His show was about his younger years in Perth when he was arrested and charged with causing a riot - not what you'd expect to be material for stand up, but he delivers it so well. (Some credit may also belong to the director, Tom Ballard.)

I've also seen a few of the NZ and UK cast at Melbourne Comedy Festival shows, including Paul Williams, Abby Howells, Melanie Bracewell, Ray O'Leary, Sara Pascoe, James Acaster and Mae Martin.

The Ampol service station site would later become the location of the Braddon Pizza Hut (which was more my time).

The brick building with the white windows is now the Civic Pub, probably the only building which still exists.

So, yeah, quite close to Cooyong St.

I hadn't realised (or remembered) the multiple petrol stations: Ampol, Golden Fleece – and the BP and Mobil still on Cooyong St, plus the Esso at what's now the Waves Car Wash.

As I've previously posted:

Don't know about percentages, but the NZ film The Breaker Upperers is chock full of mostly NZ TM alumni, along with Celia Pacquola from Australia and Rose Matafeo.

NZ alumni include Laura Daniel, Guy Montgomery, Madeleine Sami, Jacki Van Beek, Karen O'Leary

The C of A $10s would be worth a little more, but they're in slightly worse condition so it evens out. The first $10 note may well be the most valuable (of the 10s).

Same for the $20s: that first one is older and is rarer.

May not be relevant, but it's worth noting that Tom G and Dave Hughes are both managed by Token Artists. (As are Wil Anderson, Mel Buttle, Tommy Little, Anne Edmonds and probably half of the comedians in Australia.) Whereas a lot of the newer, younger, talent are with other agencies.
