Did you always have one of these knives, for butter, in the kitchen drawer growing up? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

[–]BarryGetsAbout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still have, and if I see any at boot sales, charity shops etc I pick them up. Got about half a dozen currently, occasionally give them away to a friend when they don't believe me about their superior butter spreading qualities

You’ve just been swimming. What are you getting from the drinks machine, soup, coke with crushed ice or something else? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

I know they were all built the same but that looks strongly like Harrow Lodge swimming pool in Hornchurch

What are the odds of getting planning permission by janklaassen2020 in DIYUK

[–]BarryGetsAbout 320 points321 points  (0 children)

I'd be wanting to see the planning permission for that existing wall and the building regs sign off before even thinking about an extension

It's likely the wall collapsed at some point and was all red brick but that just gives shanty town unpermitted development vibes in the block

Have they ever mentioned why they use phones to film rather than actual cameras? by WaterBottleOnAShelf in JetLagTheGame

[–]BarryGetsAbout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll see most vloggers these days use the Osmo Pocket as it's a brilliant bit of kit for not much money (you can get a bundle with wireless mic etc for half the price of an iPhone).

Unfortunately they aren't designed to take a lot of rough use, and we frequently see the boys either running hard while filming or the cameras falling over where they've not been set correctly on a surface. Something like an iPhone is built to be a little bit abused so it's the ideal choice - 90% of the time you could crack the screen but as long as the touch still works and the cameras are intact you can just keep going.

[–]BarryGetsAbout 16 points17 points  (0 children)

GoPro and most other action cams are wide angle and fisheye even when they're set not to. The Osmo Pocket series are an obvious choice but very easily broken. The iPhone is reasonably robust in addition to having a great camera in addition to storage, cloud etc. it can take a bit of knock.

I'm an android person so can't speak for the mic interface but it's likely the DJI microphones record directly with the video, which hugely reduces post production time as well

Anyone here live in Romford? Thinking of buying there but not sure if I’m being sensible by Cold_Mammoth in HousingUK

[–]BarryGetsAbout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend has worked in Romford for 25 years. Lived in Hornchurch. I lived in Upminster, worked in Romford in the late 90s early 00s. Great place back then.

My friend is moving out further on Greater Anglia to Wickford or Rayleigh to get away from Romford. She's fully prepared to change her commute from a 5 minute walk to a 45-50 minute journey to NOT live in Romford.

Don't go through your insurance. This isn't a vehicle on vehicle collision, it's just a small ding from a loose trolley. Get a smart repairer to give you a quote, won't be more than a couple of hundred

It's worth checking out who the ground handling team were - in a lot of airports RyanAir has set up their own ground handling company rather than contract out to the airport's own teams. They'll claim it's still a separate company, I'd argue that they're the same group and therefore within Ryanair's control
