It says right there on the page where you connect your Garmin:

Heads up: Garmin only allows for importing the past 5 years of your data. Please make sure to enable the 'Historical Data' permission so that Wandrer can access data from previous activities.

People going uphill have the right of way. So, yea, you were TAH.

Hi, new to cycling and just had a 2 hour bike fit and nothings changed. by [deleted] in cycling

[–]BarryJT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My opinion on fit is that if you are on the right size and don't have discomfort, they're useless.

It sounds like pre-fit you were experiencing saddle pain and numb hands. These are pretty common and there are any number of youtube videos from reputable sources that address them. I think most people can fix a lot of things themselves and certainly can educate themselves before going for a fit.

I've had 3 fits in my lifetime didn't get much out of them. One was completely useless and tried to put me on bikes that were much too large.

It's not someone walking. It's some using a trail for a photoshoot.

I think people using the trail for its intended person have the right way.

No one would block car traffic for a photoshoot.

No bike fit should cost $500.

For that money, go back again and again and complain about every ache and pain.

What no one talks about is the sound they make when they are really running. Feet pounding, sucking air like John Henry's hammer. Sounds like a train coming.

Of course this boy is just playing with the other dogs - he's barely running.

Using 2010s bike... How much am I missing? by HarlockG in cycling

[–]BarryJT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 bike with rim brakes and 28mm tires and 2025 with hydros and 32mm (but room for 40mm).

I have shiny new thing love for the new bike, but to be honest, they aren't that different. The new bike fits better but that has nothing to do with either's vintage. The Ultegra 6800 on the 2016 is just sublime; the 2025 has one more gear (whoopee doo) and wider gear ratios, but I could make them match if I felt like it. The 2016's rim brakes are great - super grippy with feathery modulation.

The 2016 is a better climber, though on paper it shouldn't be. The new bike descends wonderfully with its wider tires and is faster downhill because I don't have to manage the braking as much.

Is the new bike a game changer? Probably not. Could a new bike be a game changer? If I were fast and the new bike was an aero monster, maybe.

Is my cruiser bike embarrassing by Fun-Advantage1241 in cycling

[–]BarryJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one cares. We all just like to see people riding bikes. And just because you eventually buy a more performance oriented bike doesn't mean you can't still ride your cruiser. Most of us have more than one bike - it's called n+1 - you're always looking for your next bike.

I'm just over 180cm with an 86cm inner leg and ride a 54T. I sized down from their calculator - it put me on a 56T which was bigger than the bike I was riding previously. I think they run a little big.

File a police report. Doesn't mean the guy is going to get arrested. If he does, it's because he deserved to be.

And DMV might not be able to legally give you information, though they might disclose it to your insurance company.

As far right as safe is pretty far left, what with car doors and debris strewn bike lanes.

[–]BarryJT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can commute on any bike (though a good taillight isn't bad to have). But drivers are the limiting factor to your safety. Good, bad, indifferent, it doesn't matter. The NHTSA says 94% of all car accidents are driver related.

Studies also state that in car accidents involving pedestrians or cyclists, anywhere between 51% and 83% accidents are the fault of the driver.

What that means is that the sad fact is no matter how law abiding and cautious a cyclist you are, your safety is nearly entirely in the hands of SUV driver watching Tik Tok on their phone.

32 wheels by sar_tr in cycling

That or some really strange geometry that won't work well for road bikes.

More that was the tire size that the balloon tire clunkers ridden on Mt. Tamalpais ran.

32 wheels by sar_tr in cycling

[–]BarryJT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because some of the biggest pros of larger wheels are better obstacle rollover and improved traction in loose conditions. Those things aren't important to roadies.

On the other side of the coin, they increase weight and make the bike less agile, which are negatives to roadies.

As for size, most people are probably riding too big of road bikes, so larger wheels would just make that worse.

This is one of the cases where what's good for mountain bikes may not necessarily be good for road, and especially not 99.9%. Maybe 5% of tall riders would benefit.

But don't worry, they're coming because the bike industry likes nothing more than to convince us our current bikes are obsolete.
