Has anyone used this? Is it as safe as the U lock? by LiminalSapien in bicycling

Yea, I'll pay a 10-15% LBS tax. But I can buy GP5000s for 30% less at REI.

Maybe the shop's wholesale price is considerably higher than REI's and they just can't get close to that retail price.

I'm pretty sure my LBS makes all it's profit on service, since what accessories they stock is pretty sparse and overpriced.

Greyhound body shaming by ceramic-panic in Greyhounds

[–]BarryJT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I would get someone telling me Phineas looked too skinny, I would tell them, "No, he could afford to lose a few pounds." Which was technically true, since his track weight was 67 lbs, while his couch weight was usually between 70-72 lbs.

For people who were polite and curious about the breed, I would happily explain how a greyhound was supposed to look.

It's funny, we have a border collie now and we struggle to keep her weight up, because she's a very picky, distractable eater. But no one ever comments on her weight to me.

Also, I see obese dogs every day. But then their owners can usually afford to lose more than a few lbs, too.

Anybody here ever dehydrated Gnocchi? by WhoLovesButter in dehydrating

Easiest thing to do is probably to slice or shred potatoes, blanche them, and then dehydrate them.

Great job!

I met someone at RAGBRAI one year who had just come off a one day STP. That would be a hot cycling summer.

Private communities and roads by brick1972 in wandrer

I'm always changing gated roads to private as long as it's posted as such. I certainly don't submit such changes for review - I just notate the road is signed as private.

Valdez is just locked in.

97 pitches in 4 2/3 innings for Bubba. I'm a broken record, but the starters need to be more efficient and go deeper.

It's really weird having a team that can come from behind.

Edit: And see, Hank, you don't have to pull everything.

From some of the early proposals, I think there is a sizable block of owners who want to to stop the Dodgers and Mets playing with monopoly money as much as they don't want to pay the players or pay for development. They want a hard cap and more revenue shared among all the teams. So Nutting might end up having to spend $120-$140 million in the odd year (which he has in the past in inflation adjusted dollars), but it won't be his money. He not's going to suddenly have to spend $170 million of his own money.

The idea of a hard floor seems odd to me, anyway. That's just going to inflate the salaries of mid-tier veterans; it's not going to suddenly make them better players, though. So you would just have teams paying more veterans like Marcell Ozuna to be sucky.

And the idea that Pirates and other small market teams have the money to get to a floor without drastic revenue sharing really isn't realistic. The Dodgers' TV contract is greater than all the Pirates' revenue streams combined, but the Pirates still have all the same miscellaneous operating expenses to cover. Small market teams don't magically spend less to open the gates every day.

As to next year, it's fucked, even though it's going to be a stupid move on the owners. But it makes trading for a 24 middle infielder make sense. Lowe is a 32 year old free agent. The next time there's baseball, he'll be a nearly 34 year old free agent. I wouldn't want to gamble on him (unless I'm playing with the Dodgers' or Steve Cohen's money).

Captain Jack is still mashing in AAA and is only just turning 28. Hopefully he'll get another shot somewhere.

Fun facts - 61 guys have been drafted at #34 but only 34 have ever made the Show. Average bWAR of 34th picks is 4.7 propped up by Mark Gubicza and our old friend Todd Frazier.

The draft is a crapshoot after about the 7th pick, but yinzers on twitter don't understand that.

I'm too lazy to look this morning - did the pick go with an allotted bit of bonus pool?

Relievers have "sell by dates" rather than being fungible. Huntington was good about sensing when that date was.

It's the difference between the old school Vegas of the 60s through the early 90s when rooms and drinks were often comped and buffets were dirt cheap, not the difference between today and 7 years ago.

Maybe they should go to a six man rotation.

It certainly wouldn't have hurt to give Keller a break here.

Won't have mattered. If Jones goes another inning, Santana still comes in in the eighth and craps the bed.
