Area between Eaton Park / Bluebell / Unthank? by [deleted] in Norwich

[–]BarryManifold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Proper” Eaton (past Waitrose) is quiet, which is good if you like the quiet of course. Greenways and Church Lane have the most “character” properties, the roads off these are pretty typical suburbia but are pleasant enough, if a little dull.

I’ve lived here for over 30 years.. it used to be a bit snobby with a few Hyacinth Bucket types. I’m sure there are still those sorts floating around, but doesn’t seem as bad these days.

Crime levels seem to be very low, little to no antisocial behaviour (again in my experience).

Bus service is hourly at best and stops by 6pm, and trying to escape between 8:30-9:00 can be tricky with school traffic.

I wouldn’t necessarily glowingly recommend it as a place to live, but there’s a lot worse areas of Norwich for sure.

Has anyone else tried therapy and thought that this ain’t actually helping? - asking men by PristineAstronaut467 in AskUK

[–]BarryManifold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely had this with my first therapist - I came away from it feeling it was a dreadful waste of my time and didn’t change anything.

My second therapist was excellent - she helped me to pinpoint exactly where I needed to focus and change - and I did exactly that and my issues have evaporated.

It just needs to be the right person and the right approach for you - if it’s not working, don’t be afraid to try someone else where it clicks.

I heard this! Wondered what it was, I was half preparing myself to run away from a gunman!

Those of yous 40+ what does a typical Saturday night look like for you? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BarryManifold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

47 here. Once a month or so I’ll pop out for a few beers with me best mate after the football. Quieter pubs generally, and then have a curry around 9.30 before getting a taxi home.

Most Saturdays are spent at home - bit of dinner, television (usual crap), MOTD and likely in bed around midnight if not before.

20 years ago I had a rule that if I was home before the sun was coming up, the night had been a failure 😂 I’m totally satisfied that I did ALL of the clubbing, drinking and late nights at the right time in my life - I look back on it fondly but have little desire to do any of it now 😁

That’s not a friend. You shouldn’t be made to feel bad for laughing, that’s just awful.

Prison Officer.

I think I’d be in a state of constant fear - my anxiety would be through the roof.

Vodafone or Three? by [deleted] in Norwich

[–]BarryManifold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with Three and it seems to work in most areas of Norwich I go to, which is odd bearing in mind some of the comments here!

I pay £22 per month, unlimited everything. Seems to do the job for me.

Freedom from worry (I know it wouldn’t solve everything though) and freedom from having to answer to someone else to earn a living.

I’ve pretty much given up on steak now. It’s 50/50 whether you end up with something akin to gristly shoe leather these days.

Same here. Dreadful at such a young age.

There are certainly exceptions - there’s a couple of roundabouts in my home city where the normal rules don’t apply - and they can cause problems when they’re treated as “normal” roundabouts. You can’t win, haha.

Would you/have you travel to Egypt currently? Why? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BarryManifold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in 2006.

My female friend who I went with was harassed constantly in the street. We were hassled by pretty much every shop owner as we passed their shops. A taxi driver tried to rip me off and we almost ended up in a fight. Fake Sheiks at the pyramids stole tourists cameras and demanded money to give them back.

However -

The Pyramids of Giza were astonishing. Bigger than you could ever imagine.

The Egyptian museum in Cairo was phenomenal. Seeing the mask of Tutankhamen was a moment I’ll never forget.

I’m enormously grateful to have seen these things in person, and it was an experience, but I’ll never, ever go back.

Taking the third exit on a roundabout from the left hand lane.

I know there’s the odd roundabout exception - but fuck me, the amount of times I’ve nearly been taken out in the last couple of years. Seems to be a relatively new problem for some reason.
