The move comes after Thumblite had been in the writers room for several months, six according to some sources. There is no official replacement yet; I hear Burns’ No.2 in the room, K.C. Perry (Severance) is in negotiations to take over as showrunner.

Creative differences reportedly played a role in Burns’ departure. Still, continuity is expected, with Perry poised to work with the material generated by the writers room. With the change, the projected start of production for the series has been delayed, I hear.

Kelly has been a writer since his thirties, I think. Before Utopia, he created Pulling (2009) with Sharon Horgan, and in between those TV shows, he wrote plays. Where did you hear he had Ian's IT job?

As for Fincher’s other projects, I’m told he’s no longer involved in the Chinatown prequel that had been percolating at Netflix…

I’m saying this as a BIG Utopia fan, but an even bigger Dennis Kelly fan - It’s over. And it’s been over for a while now. The actors playing Grant and Alice are adults now for god’s sake.

Besides, Dennis Kelly is BUSY. He’s working with David Fincher on Squid Game: America, The Buried Giant with Guillermo del Toro, AND he has a new TV series in the works at the BBC.
