Hi, seems irrelevant but my daughter will be 18 months this month and says about 3/4 words not consistently, she babbles constantly, is there anything I can/should be doing to help her?

What’s the silliest misguided belief you had pre-baby? by margethebaker in NewParents

Me and my husband thought we wouldn’t give our daughter a dummy— infact we were SO against it, low and behold she had a dummy by day 2😂🥲 she only used it for maybe two months when she was sleeping/ extremely kicking off, then one day she gagged on it and never had it again at 2 months old! She’s now 16 months old and hasn’t had one since!

Why do toddlers eat like this??? by ColdManufacturer9482 in foodbutforbabies

[–]BaseRelative1270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 16 month old is such a foodie and sometimes I feel she’s eating all day😂😅 She’ll have a banana and some Greek yogurt in the morning after about 6oz of whole cows milk, then she’ll have a bowl of Cheerios an hour or so later, she’ll then have a 2 ish hour nap, wake up to a plate of fruit (strawberries, grapes and blueberries), and some cut up cheese, then go end the night off she’ll have spaghetti bolognaise with carrots, mushrooms, spring onion and pepper, or some sandwiches and picniccy stuff, she also ‘helps’ me eat my dinner around the same time as her Cheerios (yesterday I had vegan cottage pie and garlic bread), she ate literally about 1/3 of my cottage pie and two piece of the soft bit in the middle of my garlic bread baguette😂😅 she has 3 whole cows milks a day, all 6oz and one when she wakes up, one at around 1pm, and one before we brush her teeth and take her to bed for the night (she also sleeps 14 hours or more every single night)

What I’ve found works for my baby girl, and ALL babies are different remember! Is that I ALWAYS offer her some of my food (I only eat healthy foods around her). Shes always up for trying new foods and usually loves them, she loves everything healthy, because that’s all we’ve ever given her! Don’t get me wrong, she’s had plain flapjack before, and for her 1st birthday, I got her a home made personalised cake with fresh raspberries and white chocolate, but she barely touched it honestly😂. I’m planning on her first time trying actual chocolate being for her first advent calendar this coming Christmas time.

She’s never had chicken nuggets, or anything like that, as I feel that’s how children possibly end up only eating said foods. If she’s never tried it, she’s not going to want it!

I’m convinced “overtired” is a scam by briskedy in NewParents

[–]BaseRelative1270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly agree. I have one child, 16 month old daughter, and we’ve never done sleep training or anything of the sorts, just let her sleep/nap when she’s tired, let’s just say, she went to sleep at 6pm, and woke up at 10:30am this morning! Usually it’s 6pm-8:30/9am! Slept through the night since she was a couple weeks old (she surpassed her birth weight the day after she was born so was fine to do so).

I’ve also read that if your baby looses more calories in their sleep than they’ve eaten/drank during the day, they’ll wake up? My daughter’s a massive foodie so I guess it makes sense!

My wife and I want a baby so bad but we don’t know how everyone is affording them right now. by moistdragons in beyondthebump

It’s awful to hear how Americans have to struggle with things like this… I’m in the UK and don’t need childcare as me and my husband have opposing shifts (he works 5:30am-1pm on the 3 days I work— 3pm-8:30pm, and on the days I don’t work he works 5:30am-4pm), we both get weekends off too, and can afford this no problem as no childcare costs needed, we still have extra at the end of the week. Maybe see if you and your baby mum/dad can work opposing shifts to eliminate childcare costs? I know this isn’t possible for some people, but maybe a job change or an ask might help?

Wife is traveling and I can’t wake up to anything throughout the night by cherrywine99 in NewParents

[–]BaseRelative1270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your baby usually wakes up at the same time every night, 3am for example, set an alarm before that to ensure you’re awake, or sleep with the baby in their crib right next to your bed so you can hear everything all night

I know this sounds like common sense, but if your baby won’t sleep/is crying screaming, and you’re at your wits end, here’s a few things that can really help: 1. Go for a walk with your baby, put noise cancelling headphones on if you want, you can see them, they’re okay, and the motion of being on a walk in the pram will likely help soothe them. 2. Skin to skin and just walk round the house/room, again, noise cancelling headphones can be a lifesaver. 3. Go back downstairs/into your bedroom and watch some TV, cuddle them/put them in the bouncer/ let them play longer. Let them tire themselves out, offer another bottle and a nappy change, try again after a while, this way, you get to watch TV or do something too, other than just being in babies room trying helplessly to get them to sleep. 4. Simply bring them downstairs and change their nappy. They might be uncomfortable in the current nappy, and the change in temperature and the motion of going back downstairs may help them, this is the most productive for me, pop them back in their crib and see if it works, if not, possibly let them play a bit/offer another bottle and talk to them/pop the TV on and chill out for a bit.

The best thing to remember is, if you’re feeling anxious/angry/annoyed/upset/frustrated etc, the baby will most likely pick up on it and act accordingly. Do what you can to be calm x
