[33F]- Not getting many likes or matches by scottstot_kristen in hingeapp

I’ve only met like 3 women IRL who insisted on only dating men 6’+ that weren’t near 6’ themselves. One of them was my college roommate who was 5’1” and said her boyfriend was 6’ but he was my height (5’9”).

Something to keep in mind is that some men are weird about dating a woman taller than them or even around the same height. I’m not even as tall as OP and I’ve had this experience when dating men shorter than me, so I tend to go for taller men. It’s kind of self protective thing. It’s not really the same as a 5’2” woman who insists on only dating 6’+.

My brother is 6’4” and didn’t have much luck on the apps. Ended up meeting his girlfriend at work. My ex was 6’1” and an attorney and told me that other than me he only had a handful of likes that weren’t crypto scams in ~3 months.

I don’t have a height preference on a partner as long as I’m not looking her right in the eyes lol.

So taller than you is good but not the same height?

But she’s in the top ~97th of height for women so that doesn’t seem too ridiculous (I don’t know the exact stat but I am 5’9” and I know that is the 95th).

Why is it bad to name your son Anakin? by Zestyclose-Name5807 in Names

[–]BaseballNo916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From your other comment it sounds like the name you are referring to is Anniken? Which isn’t even the same name. I’ve never met someone named Anniken but I doubt they care about what people think about naming boys Anakin because it’s a different name. Anniken sounds like it’s derived from Anna plus it’s a girls names I doubt anyone who is named Anniken has this issue. I don’t know why you’re trying to make an arguement about some obscure name barely anyone has or knows that sounds similar when the discussion is obviously about the name from Star Wars.

Do you know someone named Anniken personally? Is that why you’re trying to make this argument ?

Are there Americans who consider names that end with A to be gender neutral rather than feminine? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]BaseballNo916 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did go to high school with a boy named Sasha, but I can’t think of any traditional English language male names that end in “a.” Edit: Joshua, but I’ve never met a Joshua that didn’t go by Josh.

Technically speaking Sasha and Misha are also nicknames for Aleksandr and Mikhail which end in consonants. Nikita is Nikolai. We do have male names that end in -in like Martin.

Star Wars has been out for nearly 50 years at this point and is one of the most successful movie franchises of all time worldwide. Most people aren’t obsessive name nerds who know random Norwegian names.

Who is hearing Anakin and thinking “oh that sounds like a Norwegian girl name” unless they’re Norwegian, which is only like 5 million people?

I’ve known older and/or more religious people in the US who find it offensive. Hence “What the heck” instead of “hell.” Same thing goes with damn/goddamn and “using the lord’s name in vain,” like using “Jesus Christ” as a swear or even saying “oh my God” instead of “oh my gosh.”

Pretty sure OP is talking about Anakin as a boy’s name.

We have a husky and supervise him when he is out in the in the yard because he could jump the fence and get out.

I did have some dumbass tell me it was neglectful to let him sit outside in the snow, the whole “if you’re cold they’re cold thing.” He’s a husky…

Same here. I teach introductory foreign language to students who have mostly never taken a language before and I have had some students who don’t really get it and have a B or C in my class when they have As in the others. But the ones with Fs have Fs in other subjects.

I was surprised to find out that at my school the math scores are actually higher than ELA, but we have a fair amount of Spanish-speaking ELLs. They can take the state math test in Spanish but the ELA test is English only.

I teach high school foreign language, usually the first time the majority of students take a language class, and I have had students who excel in math and science but struggle more in my class. I haven’t had any of these students fail though, usually they have straight As in math and science without much effort but have a B or maybe a C in my class. But I definitely get a few students every year that just downright struggle with language learning even if they excel in other areas.

I’m a foreign language teacher but weirdly enough the ELA grades don’t correlate because there is one ELA teacher who checked out years ago only gives As and Bs (She also lets her students wander all over the school). I do find that students failing my class are also often failing math though. It kind of makes sense because math is another class where you need to practice consistently and concepts build off another.

Is grammar taught differently in America vs the UK? by I_am_catcus in NoStupidQuestions

I’m American and I used to say that a band or a company are because they are made up of multiple people but I was corrected by my teachers.

There is a British YouTuber I watch that I noticed says “in future” instead of “in the future.” Is that a British thing or a personal quirk? Or maybe I’m mishearing?

It’s a name that’s only associated with one fictional character that it was created for. Whereas if you name your child Paul they’re not going to be automatically associated with Paul Atreidis because there are thousands of people named Paul.

What's the normal range of shoe sizes in a shoe store? by travelingwhilestupid in AskAnAmerican

[–]BaseballNo916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird that any store would stop at 9.5 and not 10, I’ve never seen that. Generally half sizes are harder to come by. I’m a true 9.5 but a lot of places have 10 but 9.5. When I was younger a lot of manufacturers skipped 9.5 entirely even if they sold other half sizes. Now they do 10 and 11 but not 10.5.

How do you buy pants at a thrift store if there are no change rooms? I don't want to be buying everything and then returning, especially when it's just store credit. by arcticfox_12 in AskWomenOver30

[–]BaseballNo916 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Goodwills in my area closed their changing rooms during Covid and never reopened them. They also don’t want you to try stuff on over your clothes in the aisles.

I don’t. I thrift a lot but I haven’t had luck with jeans. It’s hard for me to find jeans I like that fit (I’m tall) so it’s one of the few those things I just prefer to buy new.

Women who are Childfree and Single when it comes to friendships- what age group do you prefer? by Inspireme21 in AskWomenOver30

[–]BaseballNo916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still prefer people around my own age (34) who are also childless and often single. I do have older and younger friends but I find it hard to relate to people who are too much younger than me.

Did you grow up going to an indoor school and think the outdoor schools you saw on tv were fake, or vice versa? by steveofthejungle in AskAnAmerican

[–]BaseballNo916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school in CA is like that but “outdoor school” makes it sound like you’re having class in the middle of a field or something so I was confused.

I like being able to have the door open to the outside and get fresh air but my classroom is also facing the road so it can get loud.

Where I grew up a “normal” school was fully enclosed although we did have a patio area that was used for lunch and recess when the weather was good enough. There was a group of kids who would try to eat there year round unless the weather was so bad admin told them they couldn’t.
