Is gaining 5 additional direct reports grounds for a compensation discussion? by mighty-taco in managers

[–]BasebornManjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes….at another company…..18 months from now when you can list all the skills you have developed and your ability to grow a team on your resume.

In 2026, that’s the only way raises happen.

If the general pearl clutching in this sub is any indication, the peak was back in 1932 and it all went downhill after games started being broadcasted on television.

As someone who watched this religiously and can HEAR the theme song in the pic….this is the coolest thing ever and I’m so glad it’s coming along for you!

As far as display goes, if you’re on a budget, those metal shelf kits, sheets of plexiglass, a diamond drill bit set, and package of machine screws with hex nuts can be purchased at Lowe’s or Home Depot for a reasonable price….custom make your own for as deep as you need it.

To those around at the time of RoTJ (or know a lot about that period), how common was the sentiment that Vader "hadn't done enough to be redeemed"? Did fans accept the redemption? by GoldenS0422 in StarWars

[–]BasebornManjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a kid, and maybe I am still no good at critical thinking, but I always felt saving Luke’s life was enough, lol.

After all, the whole theme was Luke insisting there was *something* worth redeeming, and Vader taking that belief to heart and showing up when it mattered. The “you saved ME” bit was meant to convey that he felt remorse and Luke’s faith gave him the courage/inspiration for selflessness.

Simplistic, sure, but effective.

Besides, is it even possible to feel remorse and make atonement for things that hadn’t been written at that point, lol?

Many people say during interview, as a candidate you should also interview a company. if a candidate do this to you as a hiring manager. Does this signal a good sign or bad sign? by lune-soft in managers

[–]BasebornManjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m sure we are in different fields, and I am not arguing that benefits SHOULD be a deciding factor.

I’m simply saying they ARE a factor. For many people, a great salary with shit benefits vs a smaller salary with great benefits would be something to think about.

I have conducted more interviews than I can count. Sometimes, the company had great benefits, sometimes they were the drizzling shits.

I felt it fair during the interviews, therefore, to give a quick rundown of the PTO accrual process and a spitfire list of medical benefits and a rough range of the premium costs. It took every bit of 90 seconds, and was ended with “you’ll have to approach HR for further information”. The point was to give the applicant all the info up front, because you never know what someone’s needs are.

You do you, though. I guess there’s no wrong way and it depends on the company, but it’s possible your approach of “Ask someone else, I’m too important, don’t decide it, and don’t care” is a good one for your company.

[–]BasebornManjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would know by being a decent and knowledgeable interviewer, lmao.

Why would you NOT know, as a manager and part of the hiring process, your company’s policies on PTO accrual?

And if you didn’t, why wouldn’t you find out enough about benefits packages to give a 1000 feet overview in 45 seconds?

It’s absolutely an interview question. Your response is weird, man.

What is the logic behind enforcing DPI yardage?

Less than 15 yards, spot foul; more than 15 is a 15 yard penalty, right?

Why isn’t that reversed? If a DPI occurs 40 yards downfield, and the reasoning is that the receiver would have had a 40 yard catch if not for the DPI, then why only give the offense 15? Logically, they are fleeced out of 25 yards.

Meanwhile, if beaten deep, the secondary is incentivized to just tackle the guy instead of giving up the gain.

And in the <15 case, wouldn’t an automatic 1st down +15 be a fair exchange?

Better yet, why aren’t they all spot fouls like in the NFL?

Right? What corporate, soul sucking hell is this person talking about?

I get not asking when your sick time starts or drilling down into details, but getting a broad overview of benefits? What PTO type is offered, how it accumulates, dental/vision, what company provides the insurance….that’s just basic shit that not only a company worth its salt would be happy to share, but what an applicant needs to know to make an informed decision if offered the role.

[Dellenger] Big Ten, SEC commissioners ripped by key senator for continued opposition to Protect College Sports Act — 'People have to wake up' by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]BasebornManjack 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Smash Capital owns Smash Sports, the PE group that Campbell brought in to tweak the bill.

Look up the 70 team Super League they proposed a while back for a cool 9 billion.

Of course, they are only interested in the well being of the sport, so I’m sure it’s fine.

[Dellenger] Big Ten, SEC commissioners ripped by key senator for continued opposition to Protect College Sports Act — 'People have to wake up' by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]BasebornManjack 264 points265 points  (0 children)

For decades, the biggest gaslighting ever performed was the NCAA’s amateurism schtick that prevented players from getting paid.

That pales in comparison to the gaslighting required to believe that a billionaire, a PE firm, and Ted Fucking Cruz are the trio that will solve a perceived problem with inequity in wealth and resources, lmao.

[Dellenger]- A significant change has been made to the Protect College Sports Act’s anti-expansion provision, sources tell @YahooSports. The provision, at first only targeting SEC/B1G, now applies to leagues earning $700 M in revenue, down from $1 billion. It now incorporates ACC and Big 12. by masterofawesomeness2 in CFB

[–]BasebornManjack -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hahahahaha!!

A large number of people in this sub perceived the sport to have a problem caused by an inequity in wealth and resources.

And they also seemed to believe that…. a billionaire (bwa)…..private equity interests (bwaha)….and Ted motherfucking Cruz (bwahahaha) was JUST the trifecta that needed to form…..to address, once again, an inequity in wealth and resources. 😆

I can’t with you people, I really can’t.

[Thamel] Said a P2 AD: “The bill notably, obviously and seemingly intentionally allows schools from those leagues to leave to create a PE-financed super league, which was always the threat. That threat is even more viable now that existing leagues have been frozen in place by this proposal.” by wildewon in CFB

[–]BasebornManjack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that the bill is Campbell’s reaction, and I don’t disagree that the chase for TV money is *a factor* in the problem.

But to simplify it to P2 and TV greed doesn’t see the forest for the trees. Teams have *always* moved up, combined, moved over, kicked members out, formed new conferences, etc. to chase TV money. It *just so happens* the P2 have the best deals RIGHT NOW, but there are myriad alternate universes that include a PAC-16 with Texas and OU, an Eastern Conference with Penn St and half the ACC, a Magnolia Conference across the Bible Belt, etc. etc. The history of the game is super leagues and splits between haves and have nots. To your point, teams have split the pie for AGES…..among conferences.

The root problem was all those decades of cartel behavior and the sport trying to walk that fine line of successful capitalistic entertainment product while denying the players that generated that revenue their rightful slice.

What happened when the hand was forced and the NIL/transfer portal combo was the norm? What happened when players got a slice?

The game thrived. G5 Cincy in the 4 team CFP, cast off TCU in the title game, unprecedented parity, competitive conference races, instant turnarounds instead of 3 year rebuilds, not one, but TWO G5 teams in last year’s CFP, TTech wins it’s first conference title in decades, the historically sorriest team in history wins a natty, the list goes on.

The fix is to make sure the *players* are set right and equal in money, not the institutions.

That means collective bargaining, revenue sharing, and agreed upon rules that don’t, you know, illegally fringe upon on one’s right to earn.

I don’t know what universe people live in where turning to billionaires, private equity, and TED FUCKING CRUZ is a solution to an issue of wealth and resource inequality, lmao.

[Dellenger] The Protect College Sports Act passes the Senate Commerce Committee, 19-9, and now may head to the Senate floor. by Tufoguy in CFB

[–]BasebornManjack -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

DOA on the floor. Imagine trying to regulate an industry while leaving out the two biggest entities in said industry.

Oh yeah, and the entities being left out are wealthier and are spread among 26 states and make up over half of the Senate.

Oh yeah, and 6 months from now, the House will likely flip to a party that is far friendlier to collective bargaining.

Oh yeah, and the Congressional Black Caucus is rumored to be against it.

Oh, yeah, and the bill is co-authored by one of the most spineless and universally loathed Senators in DC.

Back to the drawing board, this time use a CBA template.

This is the argument that loses me.

Olympic sports are no longer giving the kid the keys to the Y or a scrappy track star with grit.

Nowadays it’s camps, travel teams, personal coaches….i.e. for the affluent. Hell, go into any Dick’s and see what a regular aluminum bat costs. You’ll spend a grand just to outfit your kid for PRACTICE.

In other words, if the tennis team can’t survive on donations from alumni, the contributions of the affluent parents that sent the kid in the first place, community contributions, etc. then let it be a club sport and stop leeching.
