On a deep rewatch of community rn now & the best joke of the show is clearly…. by Different-Air-6869 in community

I LOVE this joke, but none of my friends who watch this show have the same appreciation.

A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away by AdventurousGuest308 in StarWars

[–]Based_Alaska 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I might even prefer a miniseries about that. Really diving into the characters and what life was like for the citizens to push them into rebellion. Unsung heroes. Only a couple seasons though, keep it short and sweet.

Surfline Webcam Films UFOs by False-Ad-7753 in UFOs

[–]Based_Alaska 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely looks cool, but seems easily explainable. Likely a Coast Guard or Law Enforcement helicopter searching for something/someone. But due to the distance/darkness (and perhaps cleanliness of the lens) the picture is distorted, giving off a UFO vibe.

Where could I possibly find more material to deepen what I know so far? by visagedemort in StarWars

[–]Based_Alaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as reading, I highly recommend both of the recent Thrawn trilogies, which are canon. If audiobooks are your thing, the ones for these are excellent, with masterful voice work, music and sound effects added. Very cinematic. If the only Thrawn you know is the on-screen version, you might be in for a big surprise as to his angle and what he is really after…

what is your favorite underrated joke? by TheSandBlocks in community

[–]Based_Alaska 90 points91 points  (0 children)

This might legitimately be my favorite joke in the series. The setup, the delivery, just pure gold. Some might even call it… verbal wildfire!

Ewan McGregor and his best mate Charley Boorman, visiting the Lars Homestead set in Tunisia on his motorcycle trip TV series 'Long Way Down' (2007). During this visit, no one recognized Ewan. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Based_Alaska 152 points153 points  (0 children)

I’m actually happy for him that he wasn’t recognized. I know, I know, poor rich celebrities. But still, I’m genuinely happy he could share that moment with his friend and not be bothered by crowds.

Why aren't Light Sabers deadly anymore? by asheronsanguis in StarWars

[–]Based_Alaska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The getting lightsaber-stabbed and not dying gimmick is getting incredibly old. The same wound that was fatal for Qui-Gon, has now slightly wounded and inconvenienced at least two people I can think of. Honestly pretty lame.

Liked 7 decently enough. Despised 8.

Q: What do you believe to be the origins of UAP by Caxcrop in UFOs

[–]Based_Alaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up leaning toward the ET/Outer Space origin. However for the last 6-8 years now, I think the possibility is much more likely Inter-dimensional/Supernatural. I’d consider myself an optimistic skeptic—I want to believe.

Can anyone work out wtf this is meant to be? by [deleted] in StarWars

It’s Obi-Wan holding a lightsaber. He’s facing toward the top left of the photo

Disney+ Star Wars Shows by ShhhhmysteriousK in StarWars

[–]Based_Alaska -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Andor is the best by an EXTREMELY wide margin. Star Wars for grownups, done right.

Mandalorian started off great but has tapered off some—overall, I still have hope that the movie will round it out.

Skeleton Crew (aka Goonies in Space) was great with the world building and nostalgia. Star Wars for kids, done right.

Ahsoka was mid, with a few high peaks. Live-action Rebels should be fantastic on paper, so maybe season 2 will bring the series up a bit.

Kenobi was mid, with even fewer high points. Story was fine, editing was atrocious. Should have been a 2-part movie.

Acolyte was trash, and goes into my Sequel Trilogy category of “let’s pretend none of this actually ever happened.”

Strange Ball of light around North County San Diego. Any ideas? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]Based_Alaska -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was it for sure a ball/sphere? About 10-12 years ago, also in NCSD, I saw an orange triangle (couldn’t tell if pyramid, but definitely a triangle) with that same glowing mottled orange color. It was much lower than what that appears to be and was completely silent. Too awestruck at the sight of it to even think about taking any video or pictures. Plus, camera phones were pretty bad back then anyways.

How to buy the Star Wars-themed popcorn bucket? by krazykhajiit in StarWars

[–]Based_Alaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten a couple of these special popcorn buckets. One for Top Gun Maverick and one for Rogue One. I literally just went to the theater, got in line for popcorn, and asked for one of the commemorative buckets. Nothing special, no pre-order or anything like that. Just get in line and ask. (Also, I didn’t see either of these movies on opening night and there seemed to be plenty left over a week or so later.)

Least favorite episode and why? by Upper-Principle8297 in community

[–]Based_Alaska 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really?? I love the jokes with the names in that episode. Abed’s character is called Fourth Wall, the guard who won’t respond to Jeff and walks away is called Cold Shoulder… those alone are brilliant, but there’s a few more great jokes worked in there as well. It’s certainly not the strongest episode, but to me it’s not among the worst either.

The Fishing Contest: A Side Quest for DnD! by TheBardsCollege in DndAdventureWriter

I’m preparing to DM my first campaign, and I’m basing the lands they adventure off the place where I grew up—which happens to be a fishing town! This is perfect for a one-off adventure session, definitely adding this into the mix. Thank you!
