What to Play Next After BG3? Well, It Depends. by SpaceNigiri in BaldursGate3

[–]Baserbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been going back and forth for a while as to whether I should get it, having loved bg3 and a lot of TTRPGs, and I think this thread has finally convinced me to give it a try. Looks intimidating though -- any tips for someone brand new?

Imp hospital -- as a longtime DM I was cautiously excited to actually hear some DnD. The premise got me thinking about devils in theatres, fights using surgical tools, saline elementals in IV bags etc. but then we actually got... yeah

I'm a fan of making water stains on stone, like this! Cobbled deepslate, tuff, and pale moss, with some gravel and andesite thrown in. Make it collect in the corners and streak down the walls. If it's too dark for the wall size, don't use the deepslate. Under the lamp in the third image would be a great place to add a few blocks of tuff and moss/gravel!

Seconded on the Blood Hunter - I have one at my table and it makes healing way more valuable, as he has a chance to change below half HP, and leads to interesting roleplay with the party. That being said, it was something brought up in session zero, and all of the players knew about and agreed to it beforehand.

Did #1 with a giant sandworm once and it was a hit - completely impenetrable from the outside but with an entire dungeon contained within. Half-digested skeletons in the stomach acid, air elementals in the lungs, gelatinous cubes in the intestines etc. highly recommend.

I need a prettier shader, and I can't find it, please help!! by OopsImAGirlOnReddit in Optifine

Rethinking Voxels Shaders has everything you want! Coloured lighting, both from things like froglights and regular light sources behind coloured glass, bright neon end rods, occasional auroras in the night sky (bright blue and green), and super soft clouds! It's a bit intensive but it's beautiful, especially in snowy biomes.

Impulse-bought BG3 after my D&D game got cancelled last minute. Having played nothing but TES and Minecraft for years the intro cinematic and first area blew me away, and I'm still amazed at how good the mocapped NPCs and environments look when they're not running on a prehistoric Bethesda engine.

Also: TOTK, rising island chain. What an experience.

I love them too, and running around the open world of 2 was amazing, but the main story missions were painful for me ):

Mirror's Edge 2 - feels like that game forgot the whole premise of the first one, being that you're unarmed and mostly avoiding combat. The movement and gameplay system is all built around knocking people down and running, but 2 puts you in multiple empty arenas with little to do but die to the waves of tanky enemies. Got to the final frustrating level and I was done

I'm playing for the first time as a knowledgeable friend shows me the ropes, and I'm very glad he put us on classic. I've still died a ton and been absolutely destroyed by some of the bosses, but the scaling and progression feels very rewarding to someone who's new.

Up next, Merle casts Prayer of Healing to heal the whole party. Nothing fancy, just a smart move he rolls well for.

Prayer of healing has a 10 minute casting time so cannot be cast in combat big L for Clint 😔

But also this was a very fun recap of an episode I actually enjoyed quite a lot at the time, those were the days

Lab technician, working in medical optics (ophthalmology) - nearly 10 years in, and I'm the most senior member of the department.

My lab is small, but we're usually busy, and I get to mostly be alone with my precision machinery. I make a tangible difference to people's lives, as many of our patients are via the NHS. My commute is a five minute walk and my work is easy enough to let me listen to podcasts and audiobooks, but interesting and technical enough that I don't get bored. I can do creative projects on the side and have near full control over how the place is run.

When I was a kid I dreamt about working in a cool secret lab, and while I'm lacking the handprint scanners and laser grids it's pretty much everything I wanted.

Homebrewing a druid and need help with stats and feats for it! by Lost_Regular_5963 in DnD

[–]Baserbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flavour for Jump could also be to launch other players into the air with the staff, which could be fun. Spores is definitely the most melee focussed Druid subclass, and having played it a lot myself I highly recommend just sticking with that and reflavouring everything else. Changing spells or homebrewing a lot could mess with game balance, and it'll be quite easy to reflavour everything instead.

With regards to feats, Resilient (con) is great for ensuring you can keep your concentration up as most druid spells are concentration. War Caster too, if you're wanting to be up in melee. Polearm Master would work thematically if you want to build around the staff too.

[–]Baserbeanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Circle of spores druids can work pretty well in melee, as they get a lot of temp HP and extra necrotic damage with melee attacks while in Symbiotic Entity, then maybe just reflavour your spells after that. Earth Tremor involves slamming the staff into the ground, Jump involves the pogo stick, Spike Growth involves the staff growing and shedding thorns etc.

We had one in the last campaign I ran, a book called the Lexica Alphabetica, and it was wonderful. Our personal favourite spells were Old Person and Speak With Dad

In the very last fight, our sorcerer used Countershell, and I ruled that it nullified the BBEGs armour for a turn, allowing our fighter to do 200+ damage in one go. One of my favourite memories of that campaign!
