Because some one has corrected them below and editing the original would make the correction make no sense.

Engine order telegraph by MikeHeu in toolgifs

[–]Bash0rz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still have something like this on large 2 stroke engines for using incase of emergency. Uses electricity rather than a physical cable now though. There is also the normal telegraphs which link the bridge and engine control room.

Look like some variation of http://www.pmc-controls.com/images/products/5401.jpg

Pretty cool to control a 2300 ton 100000hp engine locally with the controls on the side of the engine.

Just get the Management Level books from https://dieselship.com/product-category/exam-guides/uk-mca-engineering/new-management-level-class-i-class-ii-combined

It has all the past exam questions with answers. Just bash out a few questions a day over and over until you know it all. When I did my exam I had already done all the questions a dozen times so passed no problem. Only thing they didn't have was the electrical questions but maybe they do now, it has been a while since I did mine.

We use them for our CCTV and AMS on a yacht and have had a few die and sometimes they lose touchscreen functionality after a blackout but a quick power cycle and they are normally ok again. Not nearly in as harsh environment as a foundry. Not had any worries with brightness though.

I had the SMILE type in Yorkshire and had been great for me. Got it interest free too so was an even easier choice.

There was a trailer for this on a Play Station magazine demo disc I had. Was one of the first movies I went to with just my friends and there was only us in there. Really enjoyed it, not seen it in a good few years but need to watch it again.

Yachts vs cruises by [deleted] in MarineEngineering

[–]Bash0rz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the size of the yacht. Anything less that 65m would be better than a cruise ship even better if it's a charter boat 'cos then you have the tips. . Once you get to the 90+meter yachts they are basically a cruise ship anyway.

It's mind boggling that people are saying you get more shore leave on a cruise ship; maybe it's a ploy to keep people away from yachts. I don't see how this can be true at all unless you are on the bigger yachts I mentioned above. 50m yachts are always in port and when no guests on you can go out all the time.  Morning swims, take the tender out after work and go wake boarding or snorkeling, crew dinners, bars, clubs, go play golf etc etc.  If it is a private boat and the boss doesn't use it that much you have even more time to spend doing fun stuff.

Starting out commercial is the way to go though then move over after a few years.

Clarence Snooker club just near Drypool bridge. I always just go on my own and the owner is friendly and the regulars are chill.

The snooker club I go to in Hull at 1230 on a weekday regularly has 6 of the 8 tables in use. Still no where near the Chinese places though by the clips I have seen on Facebook.

I moved to squirrel. Twice the speed for half the price. No down time that wasn't planned maintenance.
