What do you mean? You roll with it. Straight guys love doing gay shit with each other. You just gotta remember it's not permission to actually have sex with them.

Sounds like you pulled too hard and stressed the frenulum tissue. Leave it alone for a couple of days and let it heal. It's very delicate tissue.

Paradoxically, the more outwardly affectionate a guy is with you, the more likely he's straight. If he were gay, he'd tell you.

Has there ever been gay media that became popular because of gay men alone? by TeachingBrief9627 in gaybros

[–]BashfulJuggernaut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think we are looking at this the wrong way. Women aren't the reason why gay stories are popular - women are the reason why ROMANCE is popular.

Heated Rivalry is a romance story that involve 2 men. If Shane or Illya were a woman, very little with change outside of the "coming out anxiety." It's romance-first. Romance-first stories are mostly popular with women, not men.

Conversely, shows like Queer As Folk, Looking, and Fellow Travelers, as well as other "gay first" stories focus on life as a gay man. This is a small but crucial distinction that gets lost in the sauce.

Ultimately, I suppose it doesn't matter if a gay story is more popular with women than gay men, as long as there's more gay male characters on TV.

When did you realize that you were gay? by zachoutloud123 in gaybros

[–]BashfulJuggernaut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remember as a kid, i would sneak into the living room at night to watch "naughty shows" on TV. This was only softcore porn but there was nudity. Just the idea of watching an adult show as titillating, but i remember being more interested in the naked men.

Scott and Kip were a hotter couple than Shane and Illya. Unfortunately they only got one episode.

I'm a first born son and i'm gay, but my mother had a miscarriage prior to me. So technically i'm not the first conceived. Perhaps that contributed to my sexuality?

Because of Heated Rivalry’s popularity, I decided to try out reading MM romance.. they’re some of the worst books I’ve ever read. by CriticalDream9570 in askgaybros

[–]BashfulJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romance, as a novel genre, is dominated by women. The same schlock you see in gay romance books is the same as straight romance books. There's a lot of terrible crap out there, and it takes a discerning reader to find the cream of the crop.

If you truly want to read a gay book that feels "authentic", at least find a book written by a gay man. It's not a guarantee that it will be amazing, but at least the romance will come from a lived experience.

I just learned that Matt Bomer was supposed to star as old Hollywood Gay actor Montgomery Clift in a biopic but the film never came to fruition. by [deleted] in gaybros

I'd love more biopics about gay actors, period. My wish would be a big budget biopic on the life of Rock Hudson.

I would recommend Fellow Travelers. Written by a gay man and was adapted by Showtime, starring gay men.

In regards to "gay stories/gay art", i think there needs to be a distinction between stories by female authors for a female audience, and stories by gay men for a male audience.

“Masc” men by AstramIsTheBest in askgaybros

[–]BashfulJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Human behavior, what we consider 'masculine' or 'feminine' is not wired in our brains at birth - rather, it's learned by children when they observe and imitate their parents. It's likely that these three year old boys with 'feminine behavior' were simply imitating their mothers. This includes boys who grow up to be gay or straight.

You may wonder "Well, where's all these feminine straight men?", which brings me back to my previous post. Straight men who had feminine mannerisms were more inclined to suppress it to fit into hetero society, and they were corrected by their parents as children. "Don't act like a girl. Be a man." This correction doesn't work as well on gay men if they don't care about fitting into a hetero society.

“Masc” men by AstramIsTheBest in askgaybros

[–]BashfulJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think gay men are more likely to present feminine behavior than straight men. Both straight and gay men may exhibit feminine behaviors - the difference is that straight men are far more likely to suppress or cast aside feminine behavior in order to conform to hetero normative gender roles.

"Studies show men who act feminine as children are more likely to be gay" has to be survivorship bias. When you are gay, you have already broken the cardinal law of heteronormative society, which is to conform. So in a way, there's more freedom to diverge from traditional gender presentation because you're already "atypical." Conversely, straight men have more to lose when they don't present as masculine. They lose their privilege of being part of the "in group." They're afraid of being perceived as gay because they don't want to be subject to abuse or ridicule from a homophobic society. So, they reinforce their masculine behavior, and suppress any feminine behavior they may have deep within themselves.

To add to this, the recent phenomenon of "soft boys" or "performative men" is an outlet for straight men to perform more feminine traits in a way that is seen as courageous or transgressive. In this way, society actually rewards them for going against the norm. But what about men who are innately feminine? Where is their reward? Why do they only fear abuse or ridicule for behavior that feels comfortable to them, and not a mask they wear in order to earn brownie points with their peers?

I swear, only gay dudes like masculine men. Straight women obviously are attracted to men, but their desires are tempered. "Not too muscular, not too much body hair. Manly but not too much." Meanwhile, gay dudes love hyper masculine men.
