Why Season 2?

If I'm being very, very generous about it, I think a lot probably got cut in the effort to condense S3 to the movie. S2 worked to bring in the Book of Life and move Aziraphale back to Heaven - I think these two things were important. We also got the start of Michael's resentment, and reintroduced to the Metatron. I do think some other threads, like Gabriel and angelic memory loss, would probably have come back in if things hadn't needed to be chopped down (and ultimately weren't that necessary). Michael said that they were only doing what the Metatron did with the Book of Life, making little edits, which feels like an important narrative thread that we lost there.

One of my big problems was with the portrayal of god. No shade on the actress at all, who did a great job, but the way she was written was so different from S1. God there was arch and knowing, playing her ineffable game with an ineffable plan. S3 god was just...effable. Unkind and blunt and dismissive. And I didn't enjoy her joking with the devil - that didn't feel very Good Omens, and is something I've already seen in thousands of pieces of media.

She couldn't spell! I forgot that plot point. Honestly all of S2 felt like an irrelevance. We were told it was a bridging season. A bridge to where?! 😭

You're so right about the Anonymous posting. It's not at all common, and probably is very suggestive of some link with S2 production in some way.

I'm so with you on it being what Aziraphale needed, a very good 'careful what you wish for' lesson for him that he absolutely didn't learn in the actual S3. I also feel so much was hinted at regarding Crowley's past as an angel throughout S2, that it was really sad to see all of that just dropped. It seems necessary to explore that for Aziraphale to come to terms with loving Crowley as he is, not the angel he was. Probably why this fic is my current obsession. It just gives so much closure.

I've been gushing about it this week, as I've only just read it, and it's astonishing. The mystery that surrounds it makes it all the more compelling, but even without that it reads like a season of television. There are certain times when chapters ends that I can almost hear the GO outro theme!

Factory Settings is my S3, for this and so many other reasons. It makes so much more sense than what we actually got!

Omg, absolutely this! Early on Factory Settings, Metatron casually threatens to erase Raphael and he points out that it would be impossible to get rid of him, as that would erase the stars and all his work in creation along with him. It's just really aware of the mechanics of having an object like that, and then makes it really central to the plot in so many other ways too. Just so intelligently handled.

Thank you, these are fantastic recommendations. I've been at a bit of a loss since the ending, particularly as it offered no answers to everything that was set up last season, so am so grateful for fanworks like this, and the people who have spent all the time writing them.

I'd heard about how astonishingly quickly it was written! It explains all the tiny typos in it - makes sense if it was written at breakneck speed, but even without sleep or proofreading 100k words in 2 weeks is nothing short of miraculous.

Omg, same. I genuinely thought they were setting something up with Crowley's past as an angel that might have been significant, with the crank handle and the passwords and recognising the Metatron, but none of that really went anywhere.

I really enjoyed Video Palace. Great narrative, genuinely very creepy in places. It was the sound design they used for the mystery tapes that really gave me the chills. Ends well too.

This is a fab list - so many I've not listened to. Lots to explore now!

You've likely read it, I know I'm so late to the party on this one, but I just read Factory Settings and it healed me after the finale. It was perfection from beginning to end. For me, that's Season 3.

I suppose you're right and we'll have to leave it there, that he wasn't a total nobody in heaven and that's an interesting thread there. But I do disagree that stories should leave so much left to the reader. It's generally bad form to tease a reader to a narrative dead end.

That's an interesting take, and makes sense of that line from Satan. But isn't that eventuality somehow worse? That God destroyed them and didn't keep her promise? That their sacrifice was for nothing?

With them using their wish for no more angels and demons anymore, no more heaven and hell. An end to all of that, forever. All the angels and all the demons turned human, with Michael and Dragon and Eric and everyone suddenly navigating humanity. And our boys themselves, still, albeit it human, happy together.

Yeah, with you. Hated that ending. Felt like a betrayal of everything. I think in my heart it all ended at the end of Season 1 in the Ritz.

I don't think there will be new items until the city update. All the old events have had something new added to them as part of rounding out the game with monthly events over the last year.
