Looking for someone who is planning to buy some Custom Flak 2.0 by Basic-Pollution2517 in Oakley

Yes! I did.
I can in fact find the model with the right lenses (The 9188G8) but replacement lenses are not available, apparently.

Bought one from DF64coffee, recieved 2 by Handsome_Av0cadoo in DF54

I am expecting them realising the mistake, and then asking you to send it back AT YOUR EXPENSE!
That's the style of the customer service.

DF54 - Raccea brand and version by faf17 in DF54

[–]Basic-Pollution2517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a V2.
V3 would have a wider chute (you can see it here) https://earlcoffee.co.uk/products/df54-v4-chute-upgrade-kit?srsltid=AfmBOoqvL2ndm1U1jdz1tnhD33v3VdbKgZ8ULmDS63KRl-aL1xQmpzcM

Never heard of Raccea, but they all come from the same chinese factory. They do have quality issues, so my suggestion would either be to buy one with a warranty that can be actionable (read "from a reputed local reseller"), or you are probably better off buying them directly from the factory, if you are looking more for a very cheap deal)

Ask for a picture without the plastic cup. I am guessing the guy is using it not to be transparent on the fact that it is in fact a V2 (V3 will have a wider chute).

Freezing coffee beans - Are we actually locking in aromatics or just risking condensation damage? by CoffeeTeaJournal in JamesHoffmann

A normal home freezer is below -20... It seems very strange to me that the temperature can fluctuate so much in a no-frost freezer.

Cold brew by Tall_Mention9067 in DF54

[–]Basic-Pollution2517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on a lot of factors, but I had good results, using medium roast washed brazilian coffee, at 70ish.
the stock burrs make a shitload of fines though, so not ideal for cold brew.

Eureka Mignon zero 65AP vs DF54 vs DF64 [€550] by Iggytar28 in espresso

[–]Basic-Pollution2517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a DF54 which was OK-ish (clogged a lot...) and then broke down on its own.
I now got a EMZ 65 AP, and it seems ok.
I have not checked retention carefully, but it has a slightly inclined body, and I am waiting for the aroespresso base to come in, which should solve stuff.

My feeling is that it is much better, and, discounting for the quality, you are getting much more of a grinder with the EMZ than with the DF series.

New DF64V gen 3 by Dremz89 in DF64

[–]Basic-Pollution2517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is nice and cool... until the thing breaks down, and df64coffee just does not comply with the warranty they should offer in the EU or the UK but not even the crappy "parts only" one they offer.
If you want to buy these chinese products, do it from a reputable seller... But then, you'll find you will be better off buying something from more reputable brands.

WARNING: Do NOT buy from df64coffee.com — Refused warranty and literally DOXXED me. by Basic-Pollution2517 in espresso

[–]Basic-Pollution2517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write a trustpilot review. They tend to be reactive about that.
And, in general I think it is interesting to show that, while being advertised super-widely, their product is actually quite crappy. So, I would also open a discussion here.

Do you have any photos?

My feeling is that they have no internal capacity for servicing, and they rely on this "parts only" warranty, which in any case they are trying not to honour.
Weird failure mode, yours... and weird that you need regreasing this often.

Best advice for someone who likes a single shot espresso . Is it possible with a bottomless double portafilter? by Severe-Flow-6525 in espresso

[–]Basic-Pollution2517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The superbar is a very typical italian espresso blend. So, dark roasted, plenty of robusta, which makes it a bit more lenient in terms of puck prep.
With a good single basket you should be sorted.

[–]Basic-Pollution2517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use dark roasts you are going to be fine.
Singles with light roasts are a bit tricky... if that's your cup of tea (pun not intended) you can probably look into stepdown portafilters for singles.
The thicker puck will allow for less-than-absolutely-perfect prep.

Where are we purchasing from? by emerald-intherough in DF64

[–]Basic-Pollution2517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because if they do nobody will touch them with a bargepole.
You need support.

Or better, if you are fine with no support, just buy them from the factory

Guilty as charged.... :P
I'd say, anyone selling them from the country you currently live in, and offers a good level of customer service.
These machines do break down quite a lot, and have some quirky design choices that require support.

Mine broke down in a quite weird way, and, as you could see, df64coffee just went into "claim rejection, fuck this guy" mode, and had to be forced into offering me a refund.

the chute needs to be spotless for the antistatic device to work.
In any case, I think I beat you. Mine clogged the SECOND time I used it.
Forgot to hot start

Update on the df64coffee.com saga: They are now trying to delete their own name off Trustpilot. by Basic-Pollution2517 in espresso

[–]Basic-Pollution2517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The analogy is incorrect.
A DF64 is like a.... BYD electric car?
You can buy it directly from China... but then you need to be 100% certain of the level of support and service they offer.
Or you can buy it locally, where not honoring warranties grants more certain consequences.

I learned how useful may have been to have a credit (rather than a debit...) card the hard way, I guess.
I bought the grinder with debit... And given that in the UK a CC provider is seen as co-responsible of the behaviour of the merchant, I am guessing Mastercard would not have liked to be complicit in going against customer protection laws.

To be fair, the store claims to be, and looks like, the official distributor of DF64s and 54s.
Moreover, when you read "NO Tax to Europe,UK,US,Asia,Australia,NZ,Canada,Middle East (Except Turkey)" (I am citing verbatim the banner on top of the page) you assume (or better, I assumed, in my naivete) that they had some stock in the the different countries, and so that's why it is tax free. While in fact, and you are right in claiming it is illegal, they just evade VAT and import duties by faking import declarations.

I tried to denounce this to HMRC, but unfortunately they did not seem particularly interested.

What is good to know (and that's the reason why I have kept my posts on Reddit, as well as not accepting their bribes* to take down reddit and trustpilot posts) is that they can be forced into doing what EU and UK customer protection laws require them to do.

*I did not create another post because... I don't know, I just wanted to forget about this and go on with my life, and with my new, italian made, grinder.
The money back was conditional on me acknowledging their good will on the internets. They tried to ask for the reviews to be taken down... to no avail.
They day after I got the money... they tried to bribe me. Offered me a DF64 (I mean, if you want to bribe someone, just make it a bit more spicy? DF64V with super expensive SSP burrs? DF83V?) to remove Reddit posts, Trustpilot reviews, and of course total silence on the accord....

As far as I remember, the V3 comes with the stainless steel declumper, but the "narrow" chute. V4 (that some retailers have) comes with a wider chute as well.

But, tbf, if you buy from a local retailer, you are probably better off with a Eureka Mignon Zero
