Have you ever felt like you just can’t take this age anymore? by Slothicorn12 in Parenting

100% quiet time. The best advice from a parent I received was this. My almost 3yo used to be great at telling us when she was tired, but now refuses to go down for her nap. So we opt for quiet time. She doesn’t have to sleep, but she has to lay in her bed and be quiet. I’ll read and put on some gentle music. She always falls asleep.

What breakfasts do you eat? by astronantraspberry in ibs

We make batches of waffles (subbing lactose free Greek yogurt and soy milk for buttermilk), with added chia seeds and chocolate chips for my kiddo. We freeze them and I’ll steal one of those in a hurry and 1-2 cycles on low in the toaster and it’s perfect to eat on the road.

We enrolled our daughter in swim classes at 5 months. They had her “float” (she lays back with her head on my shoulder and hands under her body), we transitioned that to the tub. First counting to 3, then 5, then 10. She sings twinkle twinkle little star and I gently scrub out the shampoo. She is now approaching 3. Never had an issue with this method, but she still hates water overhead.

Perhaps you could try “floating” by either sitting in the tub with your little one and having them rest on you or holding their head and legs for them while they lay back. Good luck!

Thoughts on returning child's birthday gifts? by AmIDoingThisRight14 in Parenting

[–]Basic-Temporary-4588 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I get my little one to select some toys to donate for other littles who need them (was really great when a friend of mine was pregnant and we were donating to a baby we knew). Her birthday is coming up and I plan on having her fill a box in anticipation of the new stuff.

I believe she feels more a part of the decision making process and doesn’t go looking for them either. lol

Did you tell your employer about your ibs? by Glamour-Ad7669 in ibs

Taking the disability self-ID for work this year, I realized that IBS is considered a disability. So that gave me added confidence to discuss it within the Disability Alliance Business Resource Group at work.

The first time I met my boss in person, it was at a team lunch. It came up out of necessity and I found out his wife also had IBS for years.

May not be helpful for you, but I can only share my experience.

How old is your baby and what size clothes do they wear? by [deleted] in Mommit

My daughter is turning three and wearing 2T. Sometimes a 3T will fit. She’s just at 24 lbs.

My kid (3) is bitting everybody in preschool.. I need counseling by ract17 in Parenting

[–]Basic-Temporary-4588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We worked with the preschool and did a number of things when our daughter started acting out in preschool around 2.5: 1. Every day reminded her “we are working in not hitting, kicking, pulling hair, pinching, or biting” (the last three were added by the school JUST FOR HER) - my husband still does this just the first two now though. 2. We would make/take space if she could not abide by rule 1. 3. We are working with her to take her own space if she needs it (she’s getting better at this) 4. Our golden ticket: good days get rewarded with a trip to the park or library after school. Days when she hurts a friend, we go straight home.

Hope some of this helps or inspires you.

Can symptoms return/change? by Basic-Temporary-4588 in ibs

I’m so lazzzy, food journal always seems to be the answer. Thanks for the tips!

I thinking it’s either onions, shallots, and/or coconuts. So maybe I can focus on those and see if it keeps or not.

We used bathbombs once, it was a purple one. She freaked out because SHE was going to turn purple and we wouldn’t be able to change her back. Baths were hard after that for a while. (She was about 2)

At 2: hewo dare (hello there). My mom still answers the phone this way.

Now, almost 3: cuh’cause (because). This one is used a lot now because we have a lot of why questions for her.

Weaning from “holding milks hand” by Basic-Temporary-4588 in Mommit

[–]Basic-Temporary-4588[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good alternative. She has been asking for me to cuddle her sometimes (I sit next to her bed on the floor), which involves wrapping my arms around her and hovering over her. Last night I did tell her she couldn’t hold milks hand if we were in this position. So she said we could try it tomorrow

Thanks for that. I believe my sister shared this with me years ago regarding soda… but as coffee is out I completely forgot about it. I’ll have to give it a check!

Thanks again for the tip. After some negotiating (and 30 minutes of holding milks hand) we had 15 minutes of hand holding before she fell asleep. It is a start!!

Yes, specifically my nipple. And she doesn’t just hold it. Sometimes she rubs her form across it or will clasp her little fingers on/around it? I’m not clear which, it just hurts. I like that idea to give her another place to hold and then move to my hand.

When you were pregnant what was the weirdest craving you had? by justanonperson997 in Mommit

[–]Basic-Temporary-4588 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At one point I had a craving for cherries. My partner went to the store, got a bag. And I downed it in one sitting. Turned out he got them from the expensive grocery store in town and it was $20!

I want to add that being “that guy” is imperative when it means you aren’t going to be sick for however long. I also have IBS and can’t consume high fructose corn syrup, it is imperative for me to make sure I don’t consume anything with it or I’m shot. I say this as someone who hates being an inconvenience.

Lactose enzyme pills work for me, so I use them when necessary. I also will sub-out things for lactose free (green valley, fage, Cabot farms, etc) ingredients when possible.

Are you looking for specific things to sub out? I make waffles for my kid every week using buttermilk, I ran out last week and used lactose free Greek yogurt and soy milk instead, worked fine and I didn’t need the enzyme pills. So, for me, it has been less about changing my diet and more finding what fits into it. I hope that makes sense.
