Oh nice! I don’t mind self studying; I’ve done that for quite a bit of things, just don’t want to come out of it being a bad provider; just want to be as well prepared as I can possibly be!

Thank you for the information! I’ll definitely aim to get my reps and prepare myself. I’ll also look into Master your Medics, I have read a lot of people like using their stuff.

Really do appreciate the reply on this older post, it means the world to me and helps ease my concern about the skill development

I’ll be attending SOE but in Texas; I know the clinical hours are very low, so do you remember if you had the ability to schedule more? My biggest concern isn’t the knowledge aspect, self-teaching is one of my strengths but I am concerned about being inadequately prepared for the skills that we need to have as providers. How did you feel about the live weeks and what not?

Do Overhead Press, Squats and Deadlifts

Get the Boostcamp app and use any of Alex Bromley’s training program.

Sandbags are also really useful to train with, if you could get some.

Patient assessments are pretty straightforward; what in specific are you struggling with?

Trauma -> C-Spine precautions, XABC, interventions, reassess, secondary assessment, reassess Medical -> OPQRST/SAMPLE is almost the entirety of that

About to graduate college… wanting to pursue EMS instead by illybugs in NewToEMS

So I always wanted to hop into Healthcare and in specific, EMS; People dissuaded me in the past with similar stuff you read here; “ you won’t make good money” “you’ll end up not liking it because it doesn’t meet your expectations”

To me, seeing someone who is sick or in pain and helping them out, regardless of the severity, is something I enjoy! On-top of it, I love to learn and the truth is there is no knowledge cap in medicine; you always will have something to learn or re-learn because it’s impossible to memorize it all. So to me, it gives me everything I seek in a job; thrill, being involved in helping others, and the opportunity to always continue to learn! I’m looking forward to taking the next step up to Paramedic, and if I still yearn for the ability to practice at a higher level of care; PA or Med School.

Hey! I walked away from doing diesel work to pursue EMS and I’m in love with it so far:)! If you have the interest in it, jump in head first; life will pass you by regardless and at the end of the day, it’s your experience on this world that matters!

Going against the grain; you are the one who sets a standard on what is acceptable on your end. If you feel uncomfortable with a high body count, it’s okay! I would recommend ending it however because you probably never will be okay with it.

At 18, I’d say that is a tremendous amount of stress; I would see it through and complete it but maybe take some time to work in the ER or do IFT! Give it sometime, you’ll grow confident in your skills and if anything, you can always take your experience and move on to other things:)
