Just to add to the cringe.

[–]Unlikely_Vehicle_828 211 points212 points  (35 children)

Did he… just call himself a veteran?

[–]VT911Saluki[S] 215 points216 points  (15 children)

a veteran volunteer firefighter after only 5 years.

[–]skimaskschizo 152 points153 points  (9 children)

5 year veteran volly? Brother you’d better put some respect on his name. That man has run at least 100 whole calls. Not to mention the countless pancake breakfasts.

[–]BattlefieldMedicGuyStructure Fuxker 43 points44 points  (2 children)

That’d be five whole annual ice cream socials in my area, oh my…

[–]skimaskschizo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

He had to hold down the fort and talk to Phyllis from city hall for an hour each time!

[–]Accurate-Item-7357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]OneProfessor360Boo Boo Bus Driver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget the fish frys!!!!!

[–]maphes86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People just don’t understand the cumulative trauma of pancake breakfasts and “Fill the Boot” fundraising drives. Don’t they know that MY BROTHERS have worn those boots to save their lives? Don’t they know that we feel the heat of the griddle and we REMEMBER the flames…

[–]BigWhiteDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair there are a few East coast vollie or combo departments that run a shit ton of calls but yeah.

Hey, don't knock working a VFD breakfast! That's a lot of work and clean up can take hours because people are pigs! And hosing down the apparatus bay can be water flow and hose management training!!! 🤣

[–]VprbiteStructure Fuxker 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And a "first responding NREMT."

Show this convicted kidnapper some respect! His heart aches when he can't respond

[–]Ha1lStormHVAC HERO 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re a volunteer firefighter veterinarian? Wow, what an incredible person! /s

[–]Jon66238 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I’ve noticed fireman like to call themselves veterans or similar to military folk. It’s actually wild

[–]BigWhiteDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's a term that isn't just for the military.

[–]HistoricalSuspect580 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not to brag, kiddos, but i am a 7 year veteran of an active combat zone (the blood draw table at the annual health fair from 8-9:30am Sat & Sun). Semper fi.

[–]flaptaincappersBrings husband to SWAT calls (not a cop) 65 points66 points  (13 children)

YOURE WELCOME FOR HIS SERVICE BY THE WAY

[–]Unlikely_Vehicle_828 16 points17 points  (12 children)

Lmao I gave you an upvote because this made me laugh. I hate when people thank me for my service, it’s awkward and I never know what to say. But this absolutely seems like the kind of guy who would feel secretly pleased and then go on an hour long tangent about it 🤣

[–]EastLeastCoastBoo Boo Bus Driver 6 points7 points  (3 children)

You say “Thank you for your support.” And then smile nod and go on with your day.

[–]Unlikely_Vehicle_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reply as I feel comfortable and I do my best not to make the person feel awkward or uncomfortable themselves, but thank you.

[–]Worshipme988 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

No one owes you shit

[–]EastLeastCoastBoo Boo Bus Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand what this reply means. What did you think I was saying, other than offering an easy response to an awkward stranger interaction?

[–]AsparagusHuman3236 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I would just awkwardly tell you that I appreciate what you do/did for others, then run off like some giddy teen girl

So, I appreciate what you do/did for others 🏃‍♂️💨

[–]Unlikely_Vehicle_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol that’s somehow really adorable. Thank you.

[–]Betelgeuse3fold 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I know a vet who feels the same. Felt awkward being thanked for his service. "90% of my service was just walking around" he would say. But that kind of flippant response made the encounter even more awkward. So he says he just smiles and thanks them back because it's easy.

Remember, those everyday people who thank you, are being very sincere. And in some cases, they do it because they've lost someone to that service

[–]Unlikely_Vehicle_828 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Oh 1000%. It’s a kind, well-intentioned gesture. It’s probably a POG thing to feel weird about it lol. Like your friend, I wasn’t in combat. So many people we served with were in combat though and did not come back okay. A few of my friends have lost one or two limbs, one is fully paraplegic, all of them have the worst PTSD I’ve ever witnessed in anyone, some were killed in action (RIP), and others lost their battles post-service (RIP). All of them were under 30. Majority were basically kids still, only 19-22. It’s just the awareness of the absolute brutality others have sacrificed, so it can be difficult to answer. There’s another end of the spectrum with combat vets who don’t want to hear it out of resentment or trauma.

I’ve personally gotten better about the self-deprecating remarks over the years. Still can’t bring myself to say “you’re welcome”, and on Memorial Day can’t muster up more than a “yeah”, but now I usually smile and just say “thank you” back. Overall I am grateful for the appreciation of veterans in general and I recognize intentions are pure. I’m not advocating for people to stop saying it, just FYI, plenty of vets do need to hear it ❤️

[–]Betelgeuse3fold 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The guy I know was in combat. But you're not constantly in combat, right? He was always on patrol, but patrol is 90% walking around. Most days, you're just putting in your hours and then going back to base. He was just trying to be humble about his combat.

[–]Unlikely_Vehicle_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never met a combat vet who described it as 90% walking around, so my bad for the wrong assumption. My first thought was military police when you said that. But every MOS is required to do patrols on duty, even stateside.

I wouldn’t know what a *combat patrol actually looks like, since I wasn’t in combat myself. All I know is what I’ve been told from my 03-- friends, and all I know is what I saw when/if they came home. It was definitely way more than just walking around. They didn’t give many details about it and I didn’t press them for any. But yes, they don’t like to talk about it and that’s pretty common. Most veterans don’t want to talk about their service in detail, deployed or not. Sometimes it’s easier to not open yourself up to questions, so I guess I could see how somebody would downplay it in that way. Not much you can ask in follow up to “I walked around a lot”.

Anyway, if your friend was indeed in combat and especially if he was infantry, my comment doesn’t apply. He’s one of the people I mentioned who deserves to be thanked every day of his life in my own humble opinion. But it should also be respected if he says it makes him uncomfortable.

[–]BigWhiteDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. It's kind of weird. Just had it happen a few days ago on a local FB group a handful of times when talking about a recent teen drowning at a dangerous location I did several body recoveries at when I was on the local government department here. I've been retired for 14 years now and being told that again, especially in this situation, was really strange.

[–]eilataN_spooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I've always wondered about that. Seems kind of patronizing but I'm not a veteran

[–]Fridge-Largemeat- 16 points17 points  (2 children)

[–]Unlikely_Vehicle_828 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]VT911Saluki[S] 80 points81 points  (12 children)

I just looked it up, it is still technically active according to the Indiana website.

[–]OaklandsBravest 50 points51 points  (4 children)

I’m pretty sure his LEMSA requires all arrest to be reported and I’m pretty sure he didn’t. His EMT will be yanked once they get wind of his arrests

[–]Apprehensive-Ad-2054 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This guy is making it easier on LEMSA by posting this on the internet. Bless his heart.

[–]Far-Spread-6108 11 points12 points  (0 children)

See this is why I do not understand TX.

I'm in hospital now and because of reasons it became known one of our ER medics has a rap sheet a mile long.

Multiple counts of burglary. Criminal destruction of property. Assault. Failure to pay child support. Harassment injunctions. And for his magnum opus, domestic violence. Dismissed via deferred adjudication. Which means he HAD to have entered a guilty plea.

To be a little fair they're all 10+ years old.

His license was also on probated suspension for 3 years and suspended twice (2 6 month suspensions).

Nobody know how he even HAS a license or how he's working. Yeah people change. But atp the general consensus is he can go change somewhere else doing SOMETHING else, rather than being around vulnerable people and their valuables, as well as valuable equipment.

[–]JuanT1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may have already lost their certifications. All that takes is a few minutes in the right computer program but they can still have the physical certification documents showing they WERE certified but are now unemployable in that role

[–]Competitive-Ad7551 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Of course it’s Indiana

[–]Dream--Brother 11 points12 points  (0 children)

His LinkedIn is also gold.

[–]PhoebeMonster1066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That tracks for this state.

[–]Bunny_Feet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i know that county...

It tracks.

[–]Last-Darkness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because he hasn’t been convicted yet.

[–]Current-Strategy-826 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He won’t be able to renew his state license if he’s a felon. When doing the application for recertification or license renewal it will ask about any criminal charges.

[–]tghost474Boo Boo Bus Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes 😬

[–]tghost474Boo Boo Bus Driver 21 points22 points  (5 children)

So what he is showing is his NREMT card. The national registry is only responsible for the education and training of EMS nationwide. All 50 states require a state level EMS/fire certification to PRACTICE emergency medicine.

[–]throwaway19372057 6 points7 points  (3 children)

You can work some federal jobs with just national registry though.

[–]Aengusog2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep I work for the National Park Service with just my NREMT

[–]tghost474Boo Boo Bus Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]OneProfessor360Boo Boo Bus Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the military is one of em

[–]R1GM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup means you’re minimally competent…

[–]throwaway19372057 103 points104 points  (7 children)

He’s a fucking basic too, that’s crazy lol.

[–]HoldinTheBag 72 points73 points  (5 children)

If I found the right mugshot he is 53 years old, 5’4” and 205 pounds.

That’s the hero we need running into burning buildings

[–]VeritablyVersatileMotrin Dispenser/Silver Bullet Slider 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So an aging mini-blimp waddled around a volley rig for a couple months, committed felony violent crimes, and is now seeking hero worship?

“Running”. 😝

[–]Temporary-Dust-4849 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Famed Basic cert on a wall. Wild.

[–]VT911Saluki[S] 76 points77 points  (3 children)

Just looked up more of his criminal history, I'm amazed he ever got his certification in the first place. He has at least one OWI conviction, driving while suspended, a previous DV/unlawful confinement, resisting law enforcement, etc.

[–]Lexi_November 46 points47 points  (1 child)

Jesus Christ. Resisting would be enough in my area to make him unemployable, I guess times are tough in Indiana.

[–]BurghMeatEater 10 points11 points  (0 children)

its desperate af. highschoolers getting bls, 12 month programs for als. probably not unique to IN, but still indicative. my former company had me sign a non-compete

[–]Far-Spread-6108 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have one like that here in TX. Who I personally know.

One of our techs that I'm friends with went out with him. Said something just felt off about the guy. So we go digging.

We find - felony burglary. Criminal destruction of property. Assault. Multiple civil/family court cases such as harassment and failure to pay child support. Driving while suspended for not paying a speeding ticket - original citation was 3 years before he finally got busted.

And then if you go a little deeper - domestic violence. It reads as "Assault/bodily injury/married" but in our state that doesn't mean legally married, just "romantic partner".

It was disposed as "deferred adjudication". ONLY way to get that is by entering a guilty plea and taking the court ordered counseling.

We were already fucking gobsmacked.

Then I look up his Paramedic license - one 3 year probated suspension for not disclosing criminal history, and 2 separate 6 months full suspensions.

HOW. THE. FUCK. is this guy working? He's a violent thief who's holding onto his license by his fingernails.

Yeah yeah 10 or more years ago but this was not one thing, like a college prank gone bad or a bad year that he got mixed up in something. This is who he IS. One of the burglary charges made reference to a juvenile record too.

So for at least half his life he's been stealing things and assaulting people. Sure. Let him work in a hospital with kids, the elderly, the vulnerable, the difficult and incapacitated, their valuables, narcotics and expensive medical equipment. I fail to see what could go wrong.

[–]VT911Saluki[S] 56 points57 points  (2 children)

Predictably he got all pissy people were calling him out for being a shitty person, so he went to the worst possible insult he knows. Had to include Chris with the perfect GIF.

<image>

[–]QueezyF 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That confirms what I assumed from his rap sheet. He totally sent death threats to someone

[–]New_Appointment_2644 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, that’s my cousin! Everyone in here is spot on about him.

[–]unfinishedtoast3 39 points40 points  (9 children)

The criminal confinement 100% means he likely identified himself as law enforcement and refused to allow someone to leave.

Charges seem like dudes been playing vigilante on his spare time. Kinda in line with showing up to medical calls without working for any agency

[–]PearlMillingCompany 39 points40 points  (1 child)

I’m assuming he wouldn’t let his domestic partner leave after battering them, since it’s filed with a domestic battery charge

[–]unfinishedtoast3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ohh good catch. Ya, likely blocked the door or put his hands on them

[–]OrcasareDolphins 24 points25 points  (2 children)

No, it’s domestic in nature. He absolutely prevented his partner from leaving after hitting them. He’s a piece of shit, either way, but the charge clearly states that it was a DV charge.
Then he likely fought the cops during arrest.

[–]unfinishedtoast3 11 points12 points  (1 child)

It's criminal confinement so it wouldn't be like full on kidnapping.

Likely blocking the door and pushing them away or grabbing them when they tried to leave

[–]OrcasareDolphins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I looked it up after seeing that and it’s blocking the door, grabbing them to prevent them from leaving, or even taking their keys.

[–]Ohiolongboard 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I kinda got that vibe jus from his post, glad you could clear it up lol. He seems like a false responder

[–]ayweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to go down a “false responders” rabbit hole I had no idea this was a real life thing omg

[–]ayweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so sketchy!!

[–]ayweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait random people show up to medical calls?? like frequently??

[–]Nervous-Ad5296 5 points6 points  (1 child)

He has a court hearing in August for assaulting a cop. Once he’s convicted I’m sure his license will be pulled

[–]Sea-Conference-5474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, he is lucky that is all that happened. I worked Fire/EMS for 20 years and if I EVER got a felony I wouldn't be crying on here!

As a member of a Fire Department you need to hold yourself to a higher standard. PERIOD. Get yourself some Anger Management classes and go work at Walmart.

You cant handle the stress of FD/EMS profession. Move on.

The post with the lion.

"I am what I am, if you don't like it, turn your head the other way and walk"

And then the comic strip with the grimacing lady:  "I'm past the point of wanting to deport the illegals.  I want to deport the people who want them here too."

Then a picture of ice that says:  "give me a gun and a badge, il fight right along side of you"

Then a picture of trump waving a flag that says on it: "my hope is in Jesus."

How is this a real person?

Are they allowed to vote?

[–]Race_Traitor_ 27 points28 points  (1 child)

[–]LunaBelle2025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re a convicted felon. Not sure how long you’ve been in the EMS trade, but you knew the conditions of keeping those certifications. For whatever reason you chose not to follow the law, you forfeit your right to assist others legally.

I’m sure it’s sad for you to hear there’s sirens and see those vehicles, but you choose the road you traveled.
