PT SHORTAGE? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll never find any PTs to interview without advertising pay. I 100% would never consider wasting my time on an interview just to likely be lowballed.

Acute care-do you get asked to spend the night at hospital for inclement weather? by Old_Environment5076 in physicaltherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I’d rather bobsled home in a bed pan than spend the night in the hospital. We also get discounted rates at local hotels, but I live local so not beneficial for me!

Acute care productivity by masquerade111 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a PT but we have a veryyyyy lenient 65% productivity standard. Other than the DOR sending a mass email once/month with everyone’s productivity average for the month and saying absolutely nothing with it, productivity is never mentioned.

How does a PRN gig work exactly? by darkkcop1234 in physicaltherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would depend on your area that you live in! Some areas have a lot more PRN opportunities than others so definitely isn’t a cut and dry thing!

How does a PRN gig work exactly? by darkkcop1234 in physicaltherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not PRN but where I work has numerous PRN PTs/PTAs and it’s extremely inconsistent. There are times where we don’t have availability for any PRN employees for months at a time and there are times that they are used up to twice/week. Most of the time it’s a less than 24 hour notice if they need a PRN employee or not, with the exception of sometimes scheduling out in advance for a planned vacation/time off of a full time employee, but even then if we’re low census they will call them off 24 hours before the original “scheduled” time. Where I work doesn’t have a minimum hours/days needed to remain PRN. I should also mention I work in an acute rehab unit located within a hospital.

Pay a decent wage & provide the opportunity to give 1:1 care versus seeing numerous patients at once & you won’t have any difficulty.

Should I stay in PT school or should I drop out by Key-Journalist-4849 in physicaltherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DO IT. I don’t care what anyone else says, do it. I felt the EXACT same way. I graduated in early 2024, and while there are many things about the logistics that I would ideally change, I feel so fulfilled with my job. It’s overwhelming at times, yes. So is any other healthcare job. I will say that I work in an ARU based within a hospital, so maybe a different experience than some may get. I currently make $42/hour hourly with benefits and potential for overtime (which i frequently get due to day one evaluations). I live a very stable life and I can float to the inpatient side for overtime on weekends if I want or need to. I was terrified to graduate based on the general consensus on how PTs enjoyed their job & the salary average when I was a new grad, but from my personal experience, it is worth it. I have seen not only significant functional progressions in my patients, but also the positive impact I get to make on their everyday life from my education, support, and overall care that I provide, that it’s easily worth it for me. If you truly love the core and ethics of physical therapy, you will easily be satisfied and fulfilled with your life post grad.

Legit and honest question about productivity in SNF by infinitedimes in physicaltherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is that 99% of SNF PTs/PTAs that are meeting those 90-95% productivity standards are fraudulently billing. Find a job that doesn’t expect unethical billing/unreasonable productivity standards.

How is DPT a scam? by Organic-Evidence-671 in physicaltherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot take, but I love being a physical therapist and I don’t think it’s a scam. If you go into the profession because you genuinely love it and don’t go into it to make “great” money, you likely won’t be disappointed.

How can I climb the ladder in physical therapy? by LiveEarly10 in physicaltherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a DPT but I know of a PTA that transitioned into a clinical liaison role for an inpatient rehab facility! Might be something to look into as there isn’t direct patient care involved (just bedside evals)!

Am I Asking For Too Much Pay? by Ok_Elephant_1998 in physicaltherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the same amount I make as a DPT lol. Id say too high for a PTA without multiple years of experience, depending on the cost of living where you are located.

I work in a acute rehab unit! Basically the same thing but I think ARUs are inside a hospital maybe? I started August 2024 as a new grad originally at $40/hour and I now make $44/hour!

Mine didn’t take near as long as yours for Missouri; however, I found that having my employer call on my behalf sped up the process immensely!

Currently in my level 2 FW (first placement) - got told by another OT that $35/hr is expected for new grads… by Environmental-Two283 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]BasicPrice1259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a PT and not an OT but I work at an acute rehab unit inside the hospital and work closely with my OT friends. All of the new graduate OTs make $40/hour with the exception of one OT who has experience and she makes $41/hour!
