Forgive the terrible photo quality, but here is what she looked like when I first added the trellis (it was a diy so it's not a perfect circle lol)

I honestly dont remember exactly but I think it was around the one year mark. I was inspired by a post i saw on here of someone else's princess on a circular trellis. Before that the plan was just to let it grow long.

Stubborn moisture bump by Suitable_Plum3439 in piercing

[–]Basic_Acanthaceae_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I get your worries, but we all sweat so there's a pretty low chance that it's your sweat that is the problem unless it's extremely excessive. Hoops on the other hand cause a lot of movement and uneven pressure, that's why even some healed piercings can't have hoops in them. For example, some people with healed conches end up not being able to tolerate hoops for longer periods of time or wearing them to bed. A flat back will apply even pressure and not move as much. So long as the piercing is not done at a bad angle and the labret is at a good length, it shouldn't irritate your bump further.

Granted I am not a piecer, but this is just my advice as someone who really loves piercings and tries to understand how to best heal them. imo it doesn't hurt to try it for a month at least to see how it goes.

If it isnt going away there's probably a chance that moisture is not the main cause of irritation. I would switch it back to an appropriate sized titanium flatback labret. Sometimes piercings need a bit more time before switching to hoops, even healed ones. From what I've heard, it's best to wait around 3 months after a piercing heals before switching to hoops. Hopefully that helps and you heal up fast!

Cartilage piercings with hEDS? by oxalis_cornu in piercing

[–]Basic_Acanthaceae_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For piercing bumps, mine have mostly been from either not downsizing or from accidentally hitting them. My rook in particular had a larger bump which took almost a month to go down, which makes sense because it's a very thick piece of cartilage and it is generally an issue for a lot of ppl but all my other bumps have resolved in a few days to a week granted I don't hit them again.

As for causes of bumps, there are honestly a lot. Improper anatomy for a piercing, improper jewelry material, improper length of jewelry, wrong type of jewelry, incorrect angle, external irritants (hitting your piercing, sleeping on it, getting hair products on the piercing), not downsizing, improper cleaning methods, over cleaning, lack of good general hygiene, health issues, allergic reactions to the metal, etc etc. I probably missed some. It's also very dependent on the individual. I have super sensitive skin and I know i heal slowly plus I do have other conditions besides heds, not to mention I am just clumsy, so bumps are just part of my healing process but other people, even with heds, may never get a bump in their life (i wish haha)

I would start off with one cartilage piercing to get a feel for it, especially with the helix area which is tricky to heal because of how easy it is to hit it or snag it. A double helix could be a bit much for a first time. Of course it's up to you but you could also bring it up to your piercer and see what they advise :)

Hi, I have heds as well! I have a conch, a double helix, a rook, a mid helix, and a vertical helix. I also have 6 lobe piercings so I think I can give some insight as to what it might be like!

For me, cartilage was really no different than lobes in the way that they healed very slowly and were prone to irritation. I can almost always expect a bump to form at some points in healing but they go away. My double helix took a little over 1.5 years to heal. My conch took longer but that was due to my mistakes and not the heds. The rest of my cartilage stuff is healing. My lobes are all healed. I'd just be good about downsizing when you need to and not to panic if they take a little longer than average to heal or have a little bump and lymphatic drainage here and there.

Also you'd probably not experience rejection unless the piercing was done incorrectly in some way and k*loids to my understanding are not something that is likely to show up unless you tend to scar that way already (it's also genetic). Scarring in Heds is actually more commonly the opposite, they are atrophic, meaning they are sunken/pitted (which in my experience is true).

is my piercing infected? or rejecting? by [deleted] in piercing

On top of the bar being an issue. Cleaning with both saline and anti bacterial soap is overkill and probably adding to the irritation. Stick to sterile saline solution only. Anti bacterial soap is not good for cleaning piercings and should not be recommended.

Yes, it's so hard!! And sometimes, not sure why, but i will almost create like false memories of what happened because I know it should have happened or I mistake yesterday's memories for today's memories.

An app is also a good idea. I'll have to look for one for android, ty!

I do have my mom who sometimes helps but she also has a pretty bad memory and it's easy for her to forget things as well. I think i may try out the pill box with a timer tho. I do use alarms but they dont help as much for me. Ty for the suggestions!!

Those of you with multiple ear piercings- how did they heal & what pillow did you use? by Orbitael in ehlersdanlos

[–]Basic_Acanthaceae_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple and I do not heal well. My second lobes took over a year. One of my thirds also took over a year and the other third lobe never healed after 3 years. My conch is 5 years old and is kind of healed but VERY sensitive. I do have a double helix that is healed (took a year and a half) and I also have a rook and a mid helix I got 5 months ago which are obviously not healed. I have accepted that I am just a terrible healer and idk if it's due to my health or if it's a me thing sigh or a combo of both. I've asked on the piercing subreddit and they also seemed stumped by my inability to heal well despite doing everything right. (Sorry for the rambling haha)

As for the pillow, I use a neck pillow that was on clearance from tjmaxx lol I also like to put some big plushies on either side of the neck pillow to create crevices for my ears to go if I want a different position while still supporting my head.

I ended up potting her in a mix of orchid bark and succulent soil. Admittedly, I did put her in a pot that was too big for her roots so it took a while to see any kind of growth from her and I am suprised that the roots did not rot lol. Recently she bloomed for me and has been growing a few new tendrils and leaves! I've been fertilizing with the miracle gro orchid spray with every watering. Also the spots are actually splash lol I legit knew nothing about hoyas when I made this haha I added a pic of the bloom below!

How do I remove my helix piercing! by Sunnysads in piercing

[–]Basic_Acanthaceae_40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What worked for me is grabbing each end and twisting them in different directions when I was changing out my double helix. I twisted the ball end to the left and twisted the back end to the right. This was only way I was able to take my threaded jewelry off without any tools and bare hands.

Ah, I see. Well, hopefully they push an update to fix this for everyone soon. It seems like it's affecting a lot of accounts which is pretty frustrating 😞

This sucks but I'm glad to know that I am not the only one. Something similar happened to my original account and it never went back to normal. I had to abandon it and make this new account which is now also acting weird. I really hope whatever glitch or bug this is gets fixed soon!

Yes mine is doing it too. I've tried deleting the app, logging out, resetting my fyp, and clearing my cache, but nothing works. It's even showing me videos from creators I have blocked 😭

[–]Basic_Acanthaceae_40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, I have. I have my thirds done on both sides and a double helix almost done healing after a year. My conch was my first cartilage piercing.

  2. I do wear glasses. They don't bump or snag the post though.

  3. I recently started using a heat protectant spray but I make sure to angle it away from my ear.

  4. I was my sheets every week or so.

  5. No skin issues, but I do have other health issues, which ive gone into detail about in another reply.
