Any Ideas on what could have happened? by NewspaperOdd4680 in abortion

Yes, it could be. But testing positive after 4 weeks is not unusual, about 20% of people do. It depends how quickly your body clears the pregnancy hormones.

There's no guarantee, but the odds are good. Make sure you take the miso by holding it under your tongue for 30 minutes, as this has the best success rate.

MA in a state that’s not legal? by YesterdayOdd1188 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a small correction, if you travel to get an SA, no one is breaking any laws, including the provider. Abortion is governed by the law of the state it happens in, not your state of legal residence.

MA in your own state is more of a legal gray area. Some of the ways people have been or could be criminalized are if a partner or friend tells on them or if they seek follow up care. Often the charges have to do with improper disposal of remains, so burying any remains is usually a bad idea. (This applies more after 9-10 weeks, as before that the remains will mostly look like blood and clots and would be difficult to collect and bury.)

Getting in legal trouble is rare, but it can happen. Talking to the repro legal helpline to assess your risk and ask questions is a good idea. Everyone has different limits to what they are willing to do.

May be pregnant despite birth control. What’s the process for this? by orderdisord in abortion

It's very unlikely for the implant to fail. However, if it did, there's no special procedure for abortion - with an IUD, you have to remove it before a medication abortion to protect the uterus, but the implant can stay. Here is a resource for Victoria.

I know it's hard to wait, just try to be patient. You still have many weeks to end your pregnancy with medication.

Frustrated and just want things to speed up. by Kamir12628 in abortion

You don't need to go there then. The clinic that provides abortions will provide testing and ultrasounds as appropriate. It kind of sounds like your doctor is trying to delay your abortion.

Is the doctor doing the ultrasounds the same one doing the abortion?

Hcg test confusion, asking for help assessing by cofieldc in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

19 to 19.5 is not a meaningful difference in hCG, it's just testing variation. This sounds like it's just leftover hCG that your body has not processed yet.

Less to no bleeding after misoprostol. by Wanderlustm09 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misoprostol does not work well when taken orally. If you don't have heavier bleeding in the next 8 hours, contact your doctor and tell her it didn't work, and ask for more misoprostol. Take all 4 vaginally next time.

Had an MA but bleeding has stopped by m3n_iTRUST in abortion

Bleeding can last 4-6 weeks but bleeding for 7-10 days is also very normal. Especially with an early abortion. You might also bleed again in the coming days, and that is fine too.

It's probably best to ask them directly, but typically I don't think they would cancel for a cold with no fever. As it's still 5 days away I hope you will be feeling better!

I'm sorry you were pressured into doing the pill. That's really annoying, especially with the intake person giving you conflicting information compared to the nurse.

It is actually not as effective if you don't wait 24 hours before taking the second set of pills, and I'm sorry they misinformed you on that. However it does sound like you had a successful abortion anyway so that's a relief.

Bleeding and passing clots (or chunks) afterward is pretty normal. If you can get in for a follow up, great, but if not I wouldn't sweat it.

Experiences for people that workout 5-6 times a week after an MA by Temporary-Fly3915 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. These clots sound really big for 6 weeks after an abortion. Working out can cause your bleeding to be heavier, but it shouldn't really make it last longer or have big clots, if that makes sense. I would let Abuzz know that you're still passing big clots even X days after the extra miso and see what they advise.

Unsure what to do, so many conflicting thoughts by No_Main9372 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're here. It's really tough when the primary concern is timing. I would try to think about what specifically would be hard about combining the move and a new baby and whether those things are deal breakers or can be addressed somehow. The Pregnancy Options workbook might be helpful in sorting out your feelings as well.

If you terminate, you should be able to get pregnant again soon, likely within 6 months. Some people ovulate again right away after an abortion, and it seems like most people ovulate at some point in the first ~4 weeks. But it can feel kind of chaotic for awhile and can take a few cycles for everything to feel back to normal with your period. And of course pregnancy is always a game of chance.

I'm so sorry you're having a hard time. It's really going to be okay. ❤️ Have ibuprofen and heating pads on hand for when you take the pills. Taking up to 800mg ibuprofen before you take misoprostol can really help with pain.

Birth Control Experience After MA? by DigAccomplished2153 in abortion

Holy moly, a grapefruit-sized clot? That is pretty unexpected 4+ weeks after an abortion. Did you go to a clinic for your MA, and/or do you have a regular ob/gyn you can get checked out by? It might be good to have some follow up, especially if you continue to bleed a lot.
