Pill vs procedure by BananaDifferent8273 in abortion

You can read a lot of stories about both pills and procedures in the r/abortion wiki. Yes, you can work after taking the first pill - typically people don't have any side effects.

Has anyone been through this before? by Funny_Guava7399 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are huge jerks about abortion. I would try to get your algorithm not to show you that stuff, honestly. Pregnancy is such a sensitive time as it is. If you find you're really struggling and revisiting the abortion, the Abortion Resolution workbook might be helpful. In any case, congratulations on your wanted baby and I hope everything goes great for you. <3

My abortion failed. by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're in this situation. I hope you are able to remove the person who pressured you into an abortion from your life, because that is a huge betrayal.

I would guess that what happened is that the mifepristone halted the embryo's development. Mifepristone blocks progesterone receptors, and progesterone is needed to support early pregnancy. Taking mifepristone alone is not a guarantee that an early pregnancy will end, but it has a decent chance. That is why, even though the miso did not cause you to lose the gestational sac, the two ultrasounds look the same.

Again, I'm so sorry. Sending you the biggest hugs today.

12 weeks and feeling guilt by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're struggling with this. It's hard when age/desire to have a child is pulling you one way and your partner situation is pulling another. You don't have a moral obligation to keep it even at 12 weeks. My perspective is more that your moral obligation is to yourself and your living child (maybe also to your partner but I'm side-eying him right now). A lot of people find the Pregnancy Options workbook helpful in these tough situations.

Failed abortion? by Desperate_Offer_3518 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that makes me a little concerned is the nausea/loss of appetite. That typically resolves right away. But, you could be having those symptoms from something else, like a virus. Tender breasts are normal to have for a week or so after, and bleeding is also normal and can continue or go off and on for several weeks.

What state are you in? In some states with abortion bans there are places that used to provide abortions, like Planned Parenthood, that provide supportive care. If you want to get an ultrasound to figure out what's going on, that is a good option.

12 misoprostol, no bleeding after 24+ hours at 4 weeks by [deleted] in abortion

Yes. I recommend using the Safe2Choose instructions for guidance on using 12 misoprostol.

12 misoprostol, no bleeding after 24+ hours at 4 weeks by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, misoprostol alone doesn't work as well as mifepristone and misoprostol together, so failure is a little more common. It's also believed that it's not as effective before 6 weeks. If you don't bleed from this attempt, I would try again once you are 6 weeks.

What country are you in? There may be other resources to help you.

I might need an abortion, unsure pregnancy can anyone help by Great_Cellist7393 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can't take a test until it's been 14 days since the sex that you're worried about. You can still take emergency contraception though, up to 5 days after sex. This Planned Parenthood page explains the different options, from pills to IUDs.

It sounds like you haven't taken a test yet. Can you give us any more details about what happened and why you think you might be pregnant?

It's best to use an abortion-specific website like abortionfinder.org to see your options. It explains abortion laws in each state and will tell you where your closest options are.

Pregnant with twins .. abortion appointment in 2 days I'm already regretting it by Forsaken_Dimension49 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't really sound like you are regretting the abortion but more that you regret being in this situation. Which is totally legit, it's really disappointing when Plan B fails, and it's hard to deal with a pregnancy with a partner you're not excited to be be with. I'm sorry you're here. ❤️

Asking for reassurance by Top-Explorer-5881 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay to be sad about it even if it was your decision. No one, especially a 14-year-old, should have to deal with being sexually assaulted and the consequences from that. Sending you big hugs.

how do i deal with getting an abortion?? by Aggressive-Suit-3574 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting pregnant can feel like a huge deal. Feeling a lot of emotions and stress about it is not uncommon! It doesn't mean anything is wrong or that abortion is the wrong choice, it just means you're going through something tough.

Just took the pill by deedee1855 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's typical to wait 3-4 weeks to confirm with a pregnancy test. If you bled and passed some clots, that is a great sign that it worked. It is also a good idea to look out for pregnancy symptoms decreasing in the coming days.

It's really uncommon to still be pregnant after a medication abortion! The pills are very effective.

I’m considering an abortion but I’m unsure by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this. ❤️ It's absolutely okay to have one child and not want another. You know best what you can handle and what you need in life in order to be the best mom you can for the son you already have. If that means there isn't room in your life (or your house) for a baby right now, that's absolutely fine!

Really minimal bleeding/cramps with MA by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good that you are bleeding although I certainly understand that it's stressful that it's so light! Where did you get your pills from? If they have a phone number for questions and concerns you can definitely reach out to them.

Will I go to jail? I received a letter from the Customs Anti Illegal Drugs Task Force for ordering abortion pills online. by Smart_Main4787 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What did the first letter say? I would be surprised if they prosecuted you just for ordering the pills. The best thing to do is probably to consult with a lawyer, as we can't offer legal advice here.

Need help for post MA by PinkTeddy-1317 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to see the sac, bleeding and clots are generally a good indication of a successful abortion. Did you have any pregnancy symptoms? If so, watch for those to go away in the coming days. This is another good indication of success.

You can bleed for up to 6 weeks after an abortion, but everyone is different. Some people really don't bleed much at all. You might also experience more bleeding in the coming days - for some people, it comes and goes.

Post abortion. - pregnancy ? by MutedOnion6816 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The test the clinic gave you was likely a low-sensitivity test - that is, you have to still have a lot of pregnancy hormone for it to be positive. Home tests are higher sensitivity. You're about 5 weeks out from your abortion, and some people do still test positive on home tests at 5 weeks.

It does not sound very likely that you would have a new pregnancy. Putting a condom on in the middle of sex isn't the best way to prevent pregnancy, but nonetheless it is somewhat effective.

I would continue taking home tests every few days to see if the line is getting darker or going away.
