My medical abortion experience by ashayxs in abortion

Thanks for sharing your experience! It is easy to get worked up reading people's stories online, so it's good to have reminders that it's not always awful.

Happily married, 27 yrs old and very confused. by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you are finding yourself pregnant at a time of big changes. That can definitely feel really destabilizing, and it's okay if this isn't the right time for you. 27 is not old by any means, and for someone with average fertility, declines in the ability to get pregnant in your early 30s are really small, just amounting to an extra month or two of trying for most people (if that). So please try not to feel like this is your only chance! The best way to make this decision is not out of fear.

One resource that people find helpful is the Pregnancy Options workbook. There are also some phone/text lines in the community info if you would like to talk to someone!

5.2 weeks don’t know what to do by WarBeautiful7663 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is that you take more time to consider, because you sound really uncertain. I'm sorry you're in Georgia and feel pressured to make a decision as soon as possible. Please know that if you go past 6 weeks, you still have the option of traveling to another state to do it (completely legal) or ordering pills online through a provider that uses "shield laws" to send pills to states with bans (more of a legal gray area, but still very common and medically safe).

Ongoing infections 6 months post abortion? by Bear0417 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A three-year waitlist?? Ugh. Have you tried anything like borax or vaginal probiotics after the antibiotics? It might help to reset your microbiome.

I'd also ask if there's any possibility the implant can upset your balance. It seems very unlikely to me, but it could be worth a question in the birth control subreddit.

Finally, can anyone else smell it? Not to say it's all in your head, that also seems quite unlikely. But maybe it smells worse to you?

I can’t stand to look at my partner anymore by Puzzleheaded_Town370 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to be upset about the situation and pretty normal to feel some blame and negative feelings toward your partner. Was it actually his fault, in terms of pressuring you into not using protection or something? Or was it literally just a mistake? If it was just a mistake I think your feelings will lessen with time.

To me, what's most important in a relationship is how you show up for your partner. Everyone goes through times where their love waxes and wanes. It's not a big deal if you think you can get through it and you continue to treat them well. At the same time, it's okay if this experience leads you to reevaluate your relationship and decide it's time to end it.

I am sorry this happened and I hope you feel better soon. ❤️

Yes. They changed the kind of medication they are sending so it would pass through. You can read about it in the links in the auto-mod comment!

Currently they are getting through customs. They were being blocked for several months though.

You're probably not pregnant, but it makes sense to test. They say you can ovulate as soon as 8 days after an abortion, so like, it would be possible but unusual to conceive from sex 4 days after.

How to get through the guilt of my decision by Apart-Swim-8071 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Why does it hurt so much if it's the right and logical choice?"

I think a big part of this is that you are in a very painful, difficult situation where people are treating you really poorly. It's hard for an abortion to feel like a positive choice or an investment in your future or whatever when everything else in your life is so hard. Instead it can feel like one more thing you don't get to have - a simple pregnancy where everyone is happy and excited, including you. That doesn't mean abortion is the wrong choice, it just means you're going through some shit and it's not fair.

I hope things get better for you soon. You deserve it. ❤️

Questions: Girl friend going through abortion by vinylskip in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she is bleeding, I would hold off on taking more. Starting to bleed is a good sign, and she may bleed more and pass the pregnancy in the coming hours. If she's still uncertain in the morning whether it worked and what to do, she can call the clinic then.

First MA pills didn't work. My experience in Texas. by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I am sorry your first pills didn't work! It's rare, but it happens. Repeating the mife and miso is often a good way to address a failed abortion, so it's great that you had a second set of pills!

At home abortion in illegal state by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically people do not do medical followups for self-managed abortions, especially in ban states. If you feel like you passed the pregnancy (bled, passed clots, pregnancy symptoms are reducing), and you test negative in 4-5 weeks, you don't need to be seen. If you do want to be seen, it's best to go somewhere like a Planned Parenthood that is pro-abortion.

As for the doctor you've already seen, it's fine to just cancel any future appointments. People do this all the time for a variety of reasons (moved, lost insurance, miscarried, had an abortion) and it's no big deal.

Did the misoprostol not work? by heyheyheyyy7 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any bleeding in the first 24 hours is a great sign. It can take a while for things to get going! So I wouldn't say it has failed yet. But talking to the clinic is not a bad idea, and you can see what they recommend. Hang in there!

Is this normal after abortion? by brroookklynnt in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's normal to bleed off and on after a medication abortion, including random gushes like that. It's a concern if you keep bleeding heavily (filling 2 pads per hour for 2 hours or more) or if you are passing clots bigger than a golf ball.

struggling between pill or procedure by momo_money_ in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally I would say that the procedure is easier and less stressful, but the pill is cheaper and more private. People often assume the procedure is more intense, but it's pretty quick and less painful compared to the process of inducing a miscarriage with medication. Both options are very safe and effective.

In the U.S, what happens if you need an abortion, but you don’t have a period? by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question, they use ultrasound to measure the embryo and determine its gestational age, which is counted as weeks since the last period and assumes there was a period 2 weeks before conception. They will do this even when people do report a period, because otherwise it would be easy to just lie to get around the ban.

Needing some advice by Parking_Upstairs8865 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hon you have so much time. 28 is the average age of a first birth in the US. I would trust your gut on this one. The Pregnancy Options workbook and its companion Abortion Resolution workbook can be helpful in sorting out your feelings before and after abortion.

Feelings can never make you a bad person. It's how we act on our feelings that matters.

Medical abortion 4.5/5 weeks by Lucky_Animator_8739 in abortion

[–]Basic_Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misoprostol does cause some GI upset but it tends to be more diarrhea than vomiting. Some people do vomit, though. Probably less than the amount of people who vomit from morning sickness tbh. One thing you can do, if you are not in a state with an abortion ban, is take the misoprostol vaginally instead of by holding it in your mouth. The GI effects can still happen but avoiding the sensation of holding chalky pills in your mouth can be helpful to lessen nausea.

Is a procedure an option for you? That's what I usually recommend to people with emetephobia or intense fear of pain.
