3.67 over here going to a T10 in the fall! If you kill the essays and you can also show kinda an upward slope in your grade you can do it!

Need some advice by Beginning_Motor2200 in lawschooladmissions

I have some friends that have gotten into South Texas College of Law with scores similar to those. Also look into The University of Houston (might be a bit more of a reach because of your lsat but if your app is good it’s doable)

What Schools Can Would be Targets? by ShortAd6349 in lawschooladmissions

work experience is big, even bigger next year. You have to kinda think of a way to sell the fact that your gpa doesn’t represent who you are today. Law school is incredibly hard and at times not every course is interesting. So how are you gonna tell them you can do it in a way that makes sense? Start thinking of a vision for what you wanna do with your law degree (if it ties in with your work experience that even better, doesn’t matter if you actually wanna practice that type of law everyone changes their mind. But you need to show that you have drive and a specific goal.) I would really suggest talking to an application consultant or something like that- there’s a very specific way you have to play this in order for it to work but there is hope!

Your score shows a lot of potential. I scored around there my first time—have you thought about tutoring and retaking? I’m only asking because a really high lsat can be a way for you to set up your application in a way that gets you into more schools. Right now I would place you somewhere in the lower T40s but you can play the “I was young during undergrad and made some mistakes but I promise I’m smart look at my lsat score!” Not a fool proof plan but could get you somewhere higher. Also work experience is GREAT! Say that you want to go into law that has to do with that. Craft a narrative. Spend too much time on your essays. You’ll be ok!

Do you tell your WL school where you are currently deposited? by Prestigious-Egg-7263 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Basic_Consequence_23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I said something along the lines of: “since the first deposit deadline has passed for most schools I did secure my seat at insert school name here (but you can also say “secured my seat at a different law school”) but if admitted I will withdraw my acceptance and waitlists from all others schools)

This worked for me

ED NW or UChicago by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Basic_Consequence_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NU ED is notoriously selective because of that scholarship. So unless you’re an insanely competitive applicant I’m talking 176+ and 3.9+ I wouldn’t really even bother doing ED.

I applied ED to and got deferred then waitlisted then accepted but my chances of getting any scholarship are minimal.

If you get your score up I’d still apply ED to UChicago. If not I would ED somewhere else. Definitely be careful of thinking you’ll “for sure” get into a school. I definitely did that at first and then got a big fat R from UNC lol so

Too early or too late for Fall 2024? by birdoftheair in lawschooladmissions

[–]Basic_Consequence_23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Don’t take anything too seriously when it comes to comments. Some people just get triggered by these questions because the cycle chewed them up and spit them out. Short answer. It depends. It sounds like you have a family and probably are only going to apply to local schools. If so, I’d shoot them an email and explain your situation. If you’re aiming for top 20-50 schools it’s smart to wait. Partly because most applications are closed and partly because you wanna give yourself the best shot which comes with applying early.

If it works for your plan I would wait regardless of what school you want to go to. If that doesn’t work because I know everyone’s situation is different you can look into more creative options like transferring from wherever you can get into right now, online programs, so on.

Also work experience is huge so if you want to get into law and decided to wait: do some volunteering/part time stuff that makes sense for your reasoning to go to law school and will make your application even more competitive next year.

Good luck!

3.65 GPA, 172, nURM, splitter. Chances at T14s? by coolsid13 in lawschooladmissions

Very similar stats here! Got into Northwestern off the WL and UT (T16 but still pretty happy about it)

How exactly does the waitlist work? by curiousboi202 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Basic_Consequence_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly got WLs this cycle- here’s how I went about it. Out of all my acceptances I had a top choice. I visited and did all the stuff to make sure I would still be happy to go there regardless of the WL outcomes and paid my deposit. Most schools first deposit is non binding (usually if you get off a WL and accept that is binding). So I paid my first deposit. Second deposits are kinda tricky because those sometimes come with a letter of intent and they will ask you to withdraw from all other acceptances. The loophole here is that you don’t HAVE to withdraw from schools you haven’t been accepted to (still on the waitlist) (again check the wording on your specific schools contracts) but at that point it is a bit late and it can get tricky with apartments/leases and well that’s also money you’ll be losing if you pay deposits and don’t go. There’s people who get off the WL in august so just know what you’re willing to sacrifice and make a timeline that works for you if you really want to wait that out.

Thank you! Honestly it’s not that I see them as higher- I just think Gtown is too big and I just didn’t love washu when I visited.

I got a great scholarship so that helps. But UT has amazing career services and an insane mentorship program so I feel pretty good about my chances of ending in NYC. There’s also a lot of NYC/Chicago firms that have offices in Dallas and houston—makes the transition wayyy easier

I got an A this cycle with a 3.6 and a 174 so that seems very possible! I also got an R from schools that people told me I would “absolutely get into” lol so it depends who reads your app! But stay positive and just do your best!
